First of all - I really like the game so far! Very nicely done, mad respect.

I’ve got an issue with gamepad controls: if I press “left” or “up” on it the game continues to work through that input even after I released the button, so essentially that directions are being held down indefinitely. All the other buttons work just fine. I’ve tested the gamepad with KDE Settings -> Input Devices -> Game Controller and all the buttons work properly there (and other games).

The controller is Retro-bit SEGA Saturn USB one.
