itch.io/t/2755081/the-deadline-timeThe Deadline Time/t/2755081/the-deadline-timeFri, 31 Mar 2023 20:24:34 GMTFri, 31 Mar 2023 20:24:34 GMTFri, 31 Mar 2023 20:24:34 GMT*ahem* So, what time is the official deadline...? (And in what time-zone?)

I'm close to done, I do believe--but it's getting late where I am, and I'm wondering whether I should push for a late night (tomorrow is Saturday, at least) or whether I have time to come back to things tomorrow... ^^;

[edit]

Actually, I've just been reminded that there are some limits to what I can do late tonight, as I have a scheduled power-outage coming up at midnight (around forty minutes from these edits). And while I can still use my computer for a while thereafter--it has a battery--I won't have internet access, and thus won't be in a position to find new ambient music, make builds, or upload builds.

Those last three may have to wait for tomorrow, depending on how things go...

The question is still relevant, however: at the least it may tell me how much time I have tomorrow, if called for... ^^;

Could I still submit it with the intrenaimo tag or that would disqualify it?

/t/2717793/hows-everyone-feelingHow's everyone feeling?/t/2717793/hows-everyone-feelingMon, 13 Mar 2023 09:10:59 GMTMon, 13 Mar 2023 09:10:59 GMTMon, 13 Mar 2023 09:10:59 GMTIt's hard to believe that we're almost at the halfway point of the jam. The time just flies away, doesn't it?

Frankly, I'm nervous. This is just for fun and all, so I'll still work on my VN I'm making for this even if things fall through,  but I've tried to join a few jams now only to run out of time each time. I'm hoping to break that curse this time.

But how's everyone doing with their projects? Personally, I'm on ~the last third of my script? The first pass, at least. I've learned a technique for writing that works for me is to just keep writing until I get the end, not caring about if what I'm writing is "bad" or even fully developed or fleshed out; I put my focus on getting to the end of the script before I can even have a chance to overthink things (Sometimes I'll purposely leave things underdeveloped or half-baked to avoid writers' block and just write in comments to remind me me how I want to do things differently on my second draft pass, lol).

I get caught up in the details too often, leaving many of my projects unfinished as a result. It helps to remember that finishing and learning from your project is infinitely more important than it being perfect (Having fun too, of course). Nothings perfect and all that, so it just matters the most that you had a good time and managed to reach the finish line.

I don't have much in the way of art assets yet, and I still don't really know what I'm going to do with sfx/music (given I'm still pretty new with music making and I'm purposely going for a 90's PC VN aesthetic which aesthetically limits the free assets I can use), but I'm still excited. The failed attempts at jams have helped me better figure out a sense of scope with projects like these, so I'm trying to prioritize the script (since, y'know, visual novels are predominantly text lol) so I can figure out how many art assets I can make/what else to prioritize before the deadline proper.

In this topic, I will share with you bits of my work process, ideas and pictures related to my VN.

Yesterday, I came up with an idea for a short game. It will be a dating sim with a little twist. The main character... Can you guess, who he is?

I mean kinetic novel is just like visual novel, except it feel like reading a novel in the form of visual novel.

I'm making game assets based on AI-generated black&white images from historical photos and prepainted masks. I colorize them and add further details in photoshop.
Does that still count as AI-generated or as "Based on AI artwork" or something?

But ChatGPT can also help with the code. NovelAI can help with the writing. DeepL with the grammar. and so on. Is that allowed? Also, I plan to use Voice Acting from Replica Studios (AI voice acting) is that allowed? I just want to make sure I’m not breaking any rules or getting into trouble down the line.

During that time I didn't work on anything because I was still trying to come up with brainstorming ideas for a comic. I was able to brainstorm something  that I realized would fit better as a VN, and was wondering if it was ok to submit it to this jam and the other one, if it's allowed in both jams.

If the artwork of a character is essentially the same as some previously drawn art (such as the guy in my pfp) is that okay, given pixel art's limitations? Or would changing a pixel or two be required to make them technically unique?
