How I built it / process notes
I started with the idea “Hydrogen + Oxygen + ME = HOME.” After exploring resource-management prototypes, I focused on real-time reactor control: holding COMPRESS to heat the reactor and RELEASE to cool it.
I used ChatGPT throughout development to explore designs, generate and revise HTML/CSS/JavaScript code, refine English text, create automated tests, and generate the opening, ending, and cover illustrations. Sound effects are synthesized in the browser using the Web Audio API.
I directed the design and repeatedly playtested on desktop and mobile, using those results to guide changes to the controls, resource balance, interface, sound, and story. I also used AI-simulated player perspectives to identify possible confusion, alongside automated checks and my own hands-on testing.
The final iterations focused on connecting each material delivery to the habitat and its sleeping passenger.
How does your game use the theme?
The title connects directly to the theme: H + O + ME = HOME.
After a failed landing, one passenger remains in stasis. The player operates a damaged forge to create the elements needed for air, water, and organic matter. Each successful delivery visibly changes the habitat and connects its systems to the passenger.
The passenger has a saved wish: “I WANT TO SEE SOMETHING GROW.” That wish gives the work a personal purpose. The player builds an environment where this person can have a future, then chooses when to wake them.
The ending returns to the same person and window shown at the beginning, now overlooking water and small green shoots. HOME takes shape through both the player's work and the life that work makes possible.
