This was really nice and original, like a choose-your-own-adventure-book crossed with a board game, and I've never played a game as a tour guide before. Given the Lovecraftian setting and the CYOA-ness of it, I think I would have liked to see some of my choices end in steeper consequences or even a game over; I made a couple of risky moves where I thought FOR SURE the tour guide was gonna get it, and I would have enjoyed that honestly. Also a really minor note, but I found the font on the letter very hard to read, so I'm sure I went in missing some of the story details. I still had a great time. Congratulations on completing the jam!

Thanks!

Sorry about the font, we were very busy the whole week, so once it was in, we didn't get time to change it.

I love this interpretation of the theme. By putting the the tourists' story next to the guide's, it highlights the feeling of just how strange it is. Like, in early Mario games, the world is strange, but it doesn't feel that strange to the player because it's not strange to Mario. Then Wonder comes along and it's like "whoa, Mario thinks things are strange"

Great choice on the background music. Solid game all around.

Enjoyment: I had fun playing your submission, probably not neccessary if more events were implemented, but after a while i wished for a click to complete dialog option.

Gameplay: Very straight-forward gameplay, nice thats how I like it.

Innovation: Not to sure about this one ... but I do see potential to add mechanics to add new twist to the choice have impact on available path or something similiar.

Theme: Had a similiar idea for a "tour guide in hell"-ish game, hence I agree with your application of the theme.

Visuals: Consistent art-style and solid pick for the game.

Audio: Great! Before even starting my playthrough I enjoyed the starting track.

Thanks for playing and the feedback!

Nice work, I liked the music and art and the writing was fun to read.

Developer

Thank you!

Happy to hear you enjoyed the writing. :)

This was an interesting concept of a game. I liked the different scenarios and the choices you presented, and it was certainly a strange place. It's a shame there was only one level and some of the choices given in each level were repeated, so if you picked the correct one then you knew what to do when you hit it again.

I'm not sure the 3D exploration format was the best for this game. There was some good environment on the planet but with no animation moving from square to square felt clipped. The writing and theming was the core of the game so a 2D or point and click style may have suited better.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

We picked 3D, because it was actually faster to work with for both of us, the unique models were actually added on the last day.

I also wish we had more events, but it turns out they're quite hard to write them (for me at least), so once the core gamelay was ready, we  tried to make as many as we could.

Cool concept, I really like the choice mechanics.

Adding an audio settings option could be a nice quality-of-life improvement.
Well done!💚
Feel free to try our game too if you’re exploring other entries.

Developer

Thanks!

Sorry about the audio, we would have added a menu, if we had a little more time!

Nice game fitting the theme well.

I really like the decisions you can make and how it impacts the happiness meter. You did miss a pun though: mock-octopus, more like mocktopus :D

While pretty simple in terms of gameplay, I enjoyed playing it, well done.

Developer

Thank you!

True! I somehow missed that wordplay entirely.

Pretty cool! I like being able to make decisions in games. And what's stranger than Lovecraft?

Thanks!

This was very cool. Really like the character and movement mechanic. The challenge and answers were fun to read and answer as well, which I think is a particularly challenging thing. Good stuff!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!
