  • Sorry about your last second code issue :c cool that it was godot though!! Not knowing what I was supposed to do really made it difficult to figure out what the goal was, but the art was very clean and well put together! It ran on Linux through Proton/Steam no problem! ProtonDB Rating: Platinum
  • Upon opening the game, I couldn't help but smile at the art. It's honestly really adorable and fits the gameplay style very well. To the artists, wonderful job. Of course though, my feedback towards the pixel art is to find a consistent style. It feels like many 2D assets have different pixel density. The rocks on the pond you can see clear pixel lineart, but then the grass didn't have the same style and it seems more blurred and higher quality. This is, of course, nitpicky, I can see the stardew valley inspiration for sure. The gameplay is very confusing, but after reading the author's comment about the code breaking on the final day, it makes more sense why the is barely any design. I can see the vision for having a fun puzzle game. But I kept getting the 'you win!' screen. It got to a point where i just randomly placed tile around and still got the win screen. It's very unfortunate there is no gameplay, As for UI, there is no exiting the win screen. I had to cntrl+alt+delete everytime I got to the win screen. Also the items at the bottom all say 'put item description here' so there is unfinished design there as well. Also, the win screen not having any art is dissapointing, you could reuse the menu screen at least. What you guys came up with at the end is an extremely promising game, and I would honestly urge you guys to commit to this project until the end of the school year. Why? The art has an incredibly good basis, and the design may have crashed but it's a simple enough design that it leaves room for improvment after completion. You guys can go really far with this game. And with months of game testing and fixing, you can have a fully polished and playable game leaving the 2025-2026 school year. If Compton still has that giant touch screen then this game could go great with it. Just think about it, I think this could be the start of something great.
  • I heard you all ran into some crashing issues before submission and know my sympathies are with you, I know that feeling all too well! Based on what I was able to play I'll give my notes accordingly, and I'm sure some of these will already be on your radar. I appreciate the use of the right mouse button to rotate pieces that felt natural and intuitive. The pixel art style had some cohesive elements; the title and tiles worked well together and looked very nice, but some of the other elements felt slightly inconsistent with that established style. I was able to overlap and get some of the tiles stuck to each other on the board as well as in the topbar. (might be a bug, might be a feature?) From what I could gather, the goal was to use the tiles to cover 20% of the board with flowers, which was easily achievable but I could see the potential for further challenge. I was very intrigued by the items that potentially could be used in the future to add an additional unique angle to this puzzle game. Just in case these things were not included in the game before the crash they’re worth mentioning: an exit mechanic a how-to-play screen clear communication of the goal, context, and challenge to the player. I wish you all the best of luck going forward!
  • The art was realy good, but unfortunatly I couldn't play the game due the bug so theres not much more I can judge it on.
  • It's a shame that it broke at the last second! I really loved the art of the game, looks super great. The concept is really cool too, and I would've loved to see how this could've formed into a fully fledged game.

Jam Judge

This game is honestly so adorable. I'm really sorry to hear about the last minute coding crash. It happens to the best of us, but this game shows incredible promise.

I really like the art, but the actual gameplay could use some work.

It doesn’t really feel like a game… all I can really do is place a few tiles, then it tells me that I won. I’m also not really sure how this is off the grid, especially considering it takes place ON a grid.

Overall, I wish I could appreciate this one, but I really can’t considering I can’t really tell what it was even supposed to be.

PS: You win!

Unfortunately, on the last day our main code that allowed progression broke, and so the only level that worked was the first one. Because of this, the main thing that made the game fit with the theme of "Off the grid" was inaccessible, and the main gameplay loop was not there unfortunately. You win!
