Design Statement
We heard a clicking sound in the theme music that reminded us of a camera shutter. That small sound became the starting point for One Frame Past and its photography mechanic.
The music also felt spacious to us. It suggested a journey that was calm and safe, yet touched by a sense of uncertainty and being lost. We wanted players to explore at their own pace and experience that feeling of moving forward without knowing exactly what lies ahead.
Inspired by the experience-focused storytelling in thatgamecompany’s games, we created a quiet, side-scrolling puzzle adventure. Players briefly return to the past, photograph objects, and bring them into the present to find a path toward a lighthouse. We chose to tell the story mainly through environments, objects, light, and sound, leaving room for players to make their own connections.
