The Girl on the Swing (English Ver.)'s itch.io page

TANGIBLE
This game is a bite-sized, text-only interactive fiction that tells a short, creepy story. Built with Windows Notepad, it uses pure text to build tension and psychological dread. It offers a standalone narrative experience with a clear conclusion, packed into a tiny 8 KB file.

INTENTIONAL
The player experiences a short, standalone horror narrative accompanied by a single black-and-white pixel art illustration. There are no branching paths; instead, the player simply focuses on the unfolding story of an anonymous adult, a neurodivergent girl, and a mysterious stranger. My goal was to create a bite-sized, haunting experience that stays with the player after reading, using the synergy between minimalist text and retro visuals to evoke a creepy, intimate atmosphere.

NOVEL
Since I am a beginner, every game I make is a new learning experience. With The Girl on the Swing, I tried a completely different creation method that I had never explored before. My goal was to push the limits and try to break a record for the lightest horror game possible (only 8 KB!). Since I don't know how to code, I used AI assistance to help me structure it. This is the first and only AI-assisted game I will ever host on my Itch.io profile, making it a very unique experiment for me.

YOURS
The idea spark was completely mine, born from a Halloween Instagram GIF that I became obsessed with. The black-and-white pixel art illustration is directly inspired by that visual. I turned that inspiration into a personal challenge to create the lightest horror game in the world. Additionally, the lore is the start of a broader folk horror series. I've left clues in the narrative—let's see if players can guess what The Girl on the Swing really is and which mythology she belongs to! A sequel is already planned to explain everything.
