the moving color banding on big flat surfaces is distracting. I like the banding. but maybe you should bake some objects with vertex colors instead of using distance. possibly mitigated by messing with the geo of the castle and floor, or basing the distance off the player’s position instead of the cameras, but unsure. looks good on pretty much everything else.
Escape instant closing the game is FUCKED UP. do your fucking homework (pause screen options etc)
nitpicking
A lot of these only up clones have clambering which makes platforming a lot more forgiving. is this a good thing? idk
I don’t like how your body turns when you jump into a wall it’s a bit distracting
ideas guying
give me a runelite XP drop whenever i land a jump. let me level up at increasingly stupid XP thresholds. you dont need to make it do anything.
give me random events where i get teleported to a side area and need to solve a captcha to escape
A great rage game. Perfect for streaming. Swinging hammers give you the speedrun skip gamble opportunity. Really dig the graphics, but the idle animations have too many frames compared to other ones. I did not have fun playing it, but I had fun streaming it. Hopefully you'll keep working on it!
awesome game, good job. please finish this even if you get sued because the theme + gameplay is very streamable
the graphics are really good, and i think you should lean into the Runescape theme more with similar music, character art, and NPCs (depending on where you take the game) who speak to you with Runescape text
as i got better at the game i felt i gained a lot of control while jumping and the jump mechanics became very satisfying, but i think i still made mistakes often enough that it isn't too easy. i thought the mouse camera controls were fine
i like the castle forcing you to walk all the way to the gate if you get knocked out
i never had any issue with the spinning log. maybe if i were forced to walk on it instead of hopping across
the big mushrooms are extremely forgiving in stopping your horizontal momentum, especially compared to the smaller ones. there were a few times where i would have gladly accepted being sent flying out of the castle just for how far to the side i touched the top of the mushroom. as i got higher up i noticed i was able to fall down to a section not so far below, and that i wasn't being shot out of the castle as often as the streamer i watched was, so that would be a welcome difficulty spike
i had thought that the hardest part of the big mushroom section was going to be that the platforms above bump my head and mess up my ability to time when i hit the mushroom, but that never happened
the gold on the last hammer section tricked me into getting knocked off because i wanted it more than i realized and tiptoed into the hammers path while thinking i was safe
i beat the game in ~14 minutes on my first try with all (? something like 9975) gold. here is my best out of the following 6 restarts
i listened to Autumn Voyage at 1.2x speed the whole time i was playing this
Definitely a big difficulty spike, although I assume this is a demo level so whatever. obviously love the graphics, some of the sounds did sound a little weird, like the picking up gems, doesn't sound very runescapey. Would love more detail and set dressing, some whitewolf mountain-esque vista to look at would be nice. Also, maybe you could ask Ian Taylor to compose some background music for you, I hear he's looking for work these days XD.
The jump felt unsatisfying to me. Perhaps I'm expecting letting go of forward to decelerate my velocity.
You need to pass a certain velocity threshold to get on a barrel which is pretty slim. too low and you slide off, too high and you fall. I think the collision is slippery and weird.
Hammers might be too fast for a first trap thing, It's the start of the level so I don't think the window should be that slim, yet.
I like the graphics and sounds(sounds could be improved) Disclaimer: I played for 5 minutes due to not liking the jump physics.
got to the end in 2:47 lack of mouse sensitivity option made me switch to gamepad, which worked well. game seemingly just exits on pressing escape. maybe thats intended? the runescape aesthetic is immedieatly grabbing. i like it. leaning into that as much as you can might be a smart idea. the game plays well, and theres nothing off putting about the presentation or controls. but i cant say it feels unique in terms of gameplay mechanics. interested in seeing where you take the game.
yeah i didnt bother putting in a pause/options menu so esc just quits im not sure if iwant to add to many unique mechanics to the character itself but i do definitely want to get creative with obstacles
Seems kinda like any other rage bait jumping game, but I do like how well you've matched the aesthetic of Runescape. It's obvious that the sounds were made with SFXR. You could definitely use better sounds, but it's good that you have some in now. It would be worth it to have a pause and options menu.
thanks for playing i just saw the stream i do want to have more of a unique level (e.g. bespoke assets and better communicated obstacle mechanics) in the future to help differentiate it from asset store soups like only up the sounds were actually made with rfxgen, ive only just now heard about SFXR i also will add options and a pause, esc to quit immediately is very jarring

Spent 15 minutes and I got past the log
jump / 10
One bug I saw was that you can get Ms, jump woman to levitate near the edge of platforms.
What fun that was. Keep it up

If you're going to Runescape aesthetic you should make the MC look like a warrior/wizard. You should also rename it to Run Escape.

lotta people getting filtered by the pendulum
think ill make it easier/move it to later
why is everyone making jump king
did i miss a memo
cool feel to it, but damn i just can't resist quitting after falling down
The floaty jump physics and momentum make it a real frustrating challenge. Got filtered by the hammer early and had to give up
+The Runescape style looks right
+There's plenty of variety in little strategies you can use for how simple the moveset is. Mid-air tuning, holding shift, tapping jump, etc.
+Nice prop variety, not a lot of repetition
-It's usually not clear what props do until you've been rekt by them
-No context to all the random furniture floating around
- Can't resize the window
The jump felt unsatisfying to me. Perhaps I'm expecting letting go of forward to decelerate my velocity.
