Description
The game idea I came up for is called Mosaic. The general idea is you are a poor child living on a water planet with your mom, in a universe with space travel. You constantly see ships leaving and landing over the horizon and someday long to venture into space. You do however, have ample ability to explore the ocean. On doing so, you encounter a mystical being/god/deity/what have you who says your the chosen one, and only you can save the world. Cue an epic adventure to venture into space and defeat evil. A Zelda-style adventure game.
I chose to approach to music in the style that I am most comfortable with, electronic/synthwave/lo-fi mixed with some retro elements. I am by no means the best producer, so I chose to focus on composition, making interesting elements and flow and less on how perfect the mix sounded. I ended up having far less time than I had originally hoped so I the songs are relatively rough but I am very happy with how they are turning out.
Mosaic is the main theme/epic moment when you finally launch into space for the first time aboard the ship Mosaic.
Aquamarine is an ocean sailing/exploration song, for moments of ocean cruising and diving.
Cold Star is the BBEG song. Maybe plays upon your first encounter with him and then comes back in various ways in the future.
I used FL Studio to compose all the songs, and went in with a blind approach, getting the vibe from the song as I made it as opposed to starting with a solid idea in the first place.
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
I loved the idea of exploring the ocean and encountering mystical creatures, and decided to expand on the idea into a full blown universe, with space travel and adventure.

For being rough and unpolished, I actually feel you did amazingly well. The whole OST sounds awesome and unique. Great job!
Some really cool vibes in here, and the production quality is great - really does the tracks justice!
Mosaic has a slow but effective build before it starts to really get into itself. Great choice of synth patches here - big fan of simple waves being used to lead, accent and add some ear candy á la the squares used. Nice articulations with some of the pitch bends and portmanteau. Percussion was straight-forward but just what the track needed to keep driving forward.
Aquamarine does a great job of setting the stage off the bat - the filtered pad and soft mallet-sounding melody makes me feel as though I'm floating underwater. The addition of more synth layers accenting the melody does a great job of fleshing out the mix without busying it too much, and the choice of keeping the percussion rhythms to just the likes of hihats was clever - I don't think a track like this needs a defined kick or snare to set the rhythm, in fact I feel as though it would actually take from the floating vibes if it was grounded in a beat.
Cold Star taps into the same kind of feelings as Aquamarine. Great choice of patches here again and a lot of bendy goodness with that background melody - something I think a lot of people are afraid to really put to use. The lead synths in this do a great job of complementing the background textures and the prevalence of an actual drum beat in this does a nice job of providing the track a core heartbeat to keep it ticking along. Would've loved if this went on a little longer!
All in all, super solid work. Each track is unique but as a whole they're very cohesive and fit well together. Could imagine this in a couple of different types of games. Great work, and best of luck!
Tracks for the description perfectly and everything was super well executed. Great job on the submission, it was a super pleasing listen!
This is a very nice set of tracks! I like the sliding notes in Cold Star a lot here, the track has a cold, dark atmosphere! Nice work overall!
Really nice work! Aquamarine was my favorite, the melody sounds so pretty
Great job!
I liked aquamarine best because of the peppy percussion
The tracks for your description perfectly. The first track really implies innocence with an adventure that awaits. They progressively get more serious with the 3rd one definitely implying the seriousness of the adventure and what is at stake. Definitely reminds me of the adventures of a certain green tunic hero you mentioned! Awesome work
You have a good sense of melody and it shows in these tracks! Everything composition wise felt cohesive and nothing really felt out of place. My favorite track was Aquamarine and its shimmering melodies. Great job!
Very pleasant melodies. Digging the composition as well. Great work!
Your compositions were quite engaging for me. I liked the style and also the ideas you had. However I also feel like the production sounded a bit flat and lacking some depth. But nothing to be hyper critical about. Very cool and atmospheric soundtrack.
Great soundtrack! I especially like the track "Aquamarine."
If I had to offer any criticism, it would be that the track "Mosaic" doesn't sound quite epic enough for blasting off into space for the first time.
Keep up the great work!
The tracks are very, very atmospheric. Given my experience of reading science fiction, I particularly liked these composition!
The sound quality is acceptable. I particularly liked some of the features, like the bouncing reverberation.
I can only advise you to diversify the tracks a little... But considering their length, this is not very critical.
...I would like to play a game with such a soundtrack. Heh ;)
