Welp, unfortunately I couldnt manage to get a good date, but I enjoyed this nevertheless so much.
It's such a creative take on this jam, which unfortunately I didnt see much of that this year. I loved the mechanic of scaling up words to emphasize them, and the dialogue was very entertaining.
As for what I would improve on: the sound deign, the art - not to say that the art is bad, the style gets you in a certain atmosphere, it reminds me of another game I saw in this jam, of two spouses arguing, but I feel like you could get it a bit more better, maybe more clean, maybe more detailed, better backgrounds etc. Definitely add more dialogue and perhaps balance the game out more, I felt like I lost way too many points for some mistakes, and gained way too little for some good answers. Maybe add different date locations/different date partners with different personalities. I see how this could kind of take after Monster Prom (if you know it). Maybe in the future you could even change the order of the words? Or completely take some out or include them in a sentence.
That being said, this could be so, so fun as a published game - both on pc and mobile. Please work more on it! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the work put in this comment! As for the art (as you can see in the credits) it is me and my friend who made all the programming with a tiny bit of help from "notSamur", we also made the art, and "ich1toni" made the music, both of us have no art skills and we are looking for an artist. If we had an artist, the art would be good and we, as programmers, would have more time to balance the game and polish it more.
That being said, we still don't have an artist :(
I hope we find one soon for all the other upcoming jams.
This was really funny, so rewarding to scream I am a game developer and get a good response!
In most of the normal sentences it feels a bit weird to change the scale of the words.
But overall i enjoyed it a lot.
Creative and cool game mechanics. Nice to have multiple endings.
This is hilarious, I adore this concept, unironically one of the best games I've seen this jam! It breaks beyond any genre I know of, and at the same time it feels super intuitive because it simply translates what we usually do irl in an understandable way. Controls are well fit, and very well explained with interactive tutorial. The style, art and sound is super cool, super consistent and adorable (tutorial text is somewhat hard to read, but it fits the style). The writing is brilliant, I laughed and was invested in the conversation, and ending along with sfx is bizarre and great! The only problem to me is it's a bit tricky to get what I'm supposed to say (maybe because I'm not native english speaker). On my third run I tried to fail intentionally to see bad ending once again, but couldn't. But it doesn't spoil overall experience as it at least seem to make sence and that's enough. Great take on the theme, great implementation! Great job!
Thanks for the response! Didn't expect to see such a thoughtful comment lol. As for the "I can't lose" thing, I get it :(.
Just didn't have enough time to actually balance the game.
your natural talent and knowledge of English in its written form is really quite impressive and thus you shouldn't be ashamed of it. (I am not a native English speaker as well)
I mean I did lose once when I tried to win, then I won, then i could't lose the third time. So it's probably not about balance, but about clarity of intention of what and how must be said.
Thanks for appreciation of my comment😊
really cool idea! well done
