I like the idea of preparing for storm by making a small settlement and definitely has potential, keep it up!

How does your game fit the theme?
In Survival Tactics, players experience the calm of preparation as they gather resources, build defenses, and manage their fire before the chaos of each incoming storm. The game revolves around this balance—calmly planning your survival during the day, only to face the storm's relentless fury at night. As the storms grow in intensity, the player’s ability to manage both the calm and the storm is key to survival. The theme 'The Calm Before the Storm' is embodied in the strategic pause between each tempest, where preparation is vital for survival.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I created most of the code myself, followed a few tutorials where I was not sure and or utilized code that I have already created from one of my unreleased games, this was a massive challenge and my animations are a bit glitchy, but thanks for the opportunity, #firstjam and #firstcompletedgame.

Cool game. The game itself felt smooth and easy to play.
I think too many elements were tried to be included in this game. The game may have been a clicker game without any main character and animations with some particle effects and still would have had the same experience. The concept is that good. The music is good (I felt like I heard it somewhere :D). Really good game for your first jam. Hope you had a great time making it.
Kudos!!
Appreciate the feedback, Sound Track is called Carol of the bells, there is a version I would have loved to get on YouTube, called Carol of the bells epic version by Samual Kim, give it a listen so epic! had to stick with a free version though, still cool. Hope I see you at next years jam, I left a comment on your rate page!
As a first jam and first completed game, this is a solid attempt. The trees don't really respond to the axe swing, you really need a tutorial explaining how to play in the game, and I wasn't even sure what the goal of the game was other than making my fire not go out. I think there is potential here, and I can see the work that went into making it. Keep making games and keep improving!
Very cool game! Sadly had no idea what the fuel and the burning rate meant. I also had a bug (? At least I think it was a bug) where it would keep mining stone and iron when doing other stuff or cutting wood so I had like unlimited stone and iron but no wood lmao.
Great work!
I think the controls are pretty straightforward and the mechanics with keeping your fire alive and harvesting the different kinds of resources work pretty well. Overall, nice job on the game!
This is definitely the start of something really cool!
Some feedback:
- I'd prefer to have to feed the fire manually. When it automatically takes the wood, it's eating up a building resource that I may have been planning to use for building.
- The sliding movement doesn't really match the character or environment. If you're using physics-based movement (ie. rigidbodies), a character controller might be more in line with what you're looking for.
- A small animation or effect added to the tree/resource node you're hitting would make it easier to tell what the player is hitting.
Good job on this! I can definitely tell you put a lot of effort and passion into this one!
thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I am working on getting those sorted especially the movement, seems that nav mesh is giving me a hard time, 😅 I will try for a next release after the jam, figure I keep going and see where it takes me. What did you think about the lightning strikes if I may ask I tried playing around with the particle system could not quite get the glow but figured they still look pretty cool.
Great stuff, the game feels a bit too slow paced for me, could bring the resources closer, and make mining faster, then make the storm come more frequently. Also going to the same spot to gather resources becomes a chore after a while, maybe make them spawn in at random locations?
A nice, simple game with no critical bugs or errors.
The controls can be changed in any direction (make the penguin slide on the ice or remove this effect completely). In my opinion, for a jam, you could make the controls without a physical character (like games where you are a god) to have more time to work with mechanics and not have problems with animation and movement.
Overall, a very good result for the first game jam!)
I can see that this is your first game jam entry, so I'm gonna try to give you some advice as well as critique. It's very ambitious, but not very cohesive. I think that you should take what you've learned regarding scope and what's possible going forward. Maybe try some 2d game dev first.
There's a lot of jankiness regarding the controls and animation, the character seems to slide around a lot. The resource gathering were difficult to predict and the trees would just suddenly respawn while I was in the middle of the forest XD
Your idea for the theme is good and clear, but I couldn't really see a reason to build anything, for instance there was no lightning strikes that hit the lightning rod.
I hope you're gonna keep developing games and I look forward to your next game :)
Wow this is your first game jam and first it was for me too but the game that u have made is just WOW!! rated.
For the first game ever and first jam ever, its really good, i love the map a lot, and the concept of the game is interesting.
But there are some rough stuff, the movement and the spam of right click without being able to just hold the left click, hurt my hand. I dont know if anyone else said this, but sometimes i came back to the ore places and all of sudden i had a lot of them waiting for me, probably registered my right click even if i was not there.
Congratulations tho, I hope you keep making games and keep improving, really good start, keep it up!
A pretty interesting game, though some more sounds would be nice when chopping wood, and also make some counter movement for the player movement so not be so slippery.
Hopefully you'll also play mine :) /jam/brackeys-12/rate/2973690
Great first game! Lot of cool concepts. I think just making the animations feel better would immediately make the game 10x as fun.
Thanks for sharing with my stream! Here's the VOD of your game: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2253652240?t=00h17m05s
I liked the idea of collecting resources and building structures while maintaining your campfire before the storm attacks.
The character's movement feels kinda stiff, he takes too long to accelerate and decelerate. It would be cool if the axe swing was faster and actually matched the timing of the hit.
I wished I could go near the campfire to build something without losing the wood into the fire. Easy way to do this would be to make the player click the fire in order to put the wood in manually instead of automatically.
Congrats on your first jam, and your first completed game! Keep at it!
