Fantastic push-your-luck strategy game with a ton of juice and polish!! Probably the most immediately gratifying, pick-up-and-play entry I've played from this jam so far :D The "oh, heck" feeling of the devil's rolls getting higher and higher gives way to a feeling of smug satisfaction as you gradually rig your own dice to outplay him by hundreds and eventually thousands of points... but even then, you're just one unlucky roll away from your house of cards crashing down. The upgrades work together in ways that are a blast to concoct ways to exploit... like crafting a one-sided die that can only roll a 420, out-cheating the devil feels great xD Great core loop, amazing animations, keep up the great work!

I had a lot of fun with this one. I do think multipliers were the clear better option and would have liked an option for different combos, but still fun. I agree with another comment that it would have been nice to either slow down the tally, or give an option to adjust the speed or look again at the dice after they are rolled to better understand what all was going on. And more audio :)

Awesome animations, the game is fun to play, the idea of morphing dice has a fresh feel to it. I beat the devil (multipliers for the win)!

Really well-done game, and very addictive :D Definitely have Balatro vibes!

The thing that was missing was some soundtrack for me - the current air-flow-like sound background is a bit too anxious for a rather fun game. I mean, the devil doesn't even look that scary! :)

Well done, really cool submission! Also really cool visual effects and SFX!

What a cool game!! Gave very fun and addicting Balatro vibes. Nice work!!

This was stellar!  All the components work really well.  The only thing I'd change is making the tally slower/clearer, it zips by so fast that there were some effects I never figured out.  I even recorded some rolls to watch in slomo trying to figure out how the math worked but had trouble making sense of it.   But again, super impressed so I'm not really complaining, keep it up!

I’ve always loved how concise and dynamic your games feel. This is an interesting interpretation that feels very enjoyable to play. Great job!

Hi! This is super cool lol, but I think with more balancing it could've been even better.

Question tho, where's the music? Did I accidentally turn it off, or is there no BGM? Some music could've been nice lol.

Graphics were super cool tho, I loved that overlay and the devil guy.

Good job to all of you!

The background music is there it's just more faint than the other sound effects. We didn't want it being obnoxious given we didn't have time to add audio settings. It is also a pretty short loop and more ambiance than anything.

I just tested in Chrome and Firefox and I can hear it, were you using a different browser than one of those?

Submitted

I did use Chrome 🤔 It's probably a bug or I missed it. I can look into it tomorrow

Okay so, update from me: I'm on Chrome (Desktop) and on web music stops shortly after I think 1st round thingy? It's like you guys forgot to set it to loop or something lol?

Thanks for double checking. I see that now too. The desktop version is looping fine but web exports do not. Odd stuff. Oh well it wasn't all the interesting of background audio really just there to try to avoid complete silence.

Edit: Looks like it is a reported bug in Godot. That is what I get for not looping the import file. Oh well https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/101111

Yeah another game had the same issue, I assumed it had to do with the same web export issue

Man this is *good*! Definitely felt dynamic and fun, could easily be a full release game with some extra game design!  Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it. There were a few upgrades to dice that we had that I thought would be a lot of fun but we had to cut last minute due to bugs. One was a dice would also throw another random dice from your bag. And similar to that another one was that it would throw random dice to bag for every "1" you rolled on another die. We wanted to have concepts of different combos that could play off certain number values but didn't have time to explore it deep enough so the upgrades didn't have much depth.

Since the jam deadline I have solved the bug with the extra dice throws though so it will be coming out if a patched version post-jam.

Very fun! I haven't beaten it yet but I  will return to play more for sure. I love the dice upgrades, it's a really cool mechanic. This could definitely be expanded into a full release!

The tutorial was a wall of text XD but doesn't need a tutorial anyways. I really like this concept and had a lot of fun playing. Also like the polish and core roguelike gameplay.

Really enjoyed the game but felt like at some point it becomes too easy, when you get 2-3 OP dice. Perhaps I'm just a roguelike expert or I should pay a visit to my local casino.

If you're okay with suggestions, it would be perfect (imo) to add some calculations on the Expected Value of player's dice and base the devil's strength on that.

My highscore was 7790!

Yeah it ended up be too easy. The whole game didn't really come together until the last couple of days and we were doing lots of fixes up until the end. We never got a good look at the balance and wanted to make sure it wasn't impossible so tried to lean to the easier side.

I personally don't think it should be balanced around the dice you have. It don't like games that scale difficulty to you as it means you never really feel like you are improving. Upgrades become meaningless if every upgrade you buy the boss would upgrade as well. It really just needed a lot higher scaling in difficulty, more exponential than it already is.

Also after playtesting it more and more I think the upgrades should be limited. I originally wanted multiple types of upgrades and then you could only have one of each type applied to a dice. That way you couldn't just keep doubling the sides of one die over and over. But alas time limits hit and things were cut.

Glad you had fun playing it though!

I win! :D Super easy to understand, but super fun to play, congrats! The 'gold die' didn't worked for me (or I didn't understand what it did), but beyond that everything was great!

Developer

thank you so much!!

Great polish on the game, cool simple gameplay idea with nice twists and strategy options.

Unfortunately luck was not in my favor, but I will try again, as it was very fun!

This is fire. So good!

I had fun but I definitely got rolled.

I must say the bag of die is a little confusing. I wonder if selling die could be a mechanic in the future. Other than that I had a wonderful time playing the game and getting destroyed. The sound design is great, so is the lighting, visuals, and other features. I did notice that the background music didn't last throughout my playthrough (I missed it)
