Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
A game where you use the recoil of your gun to send you flying

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
While you have a gun, bullets don't kill enemies and instead you have to propel your body into them to kill them. In this way, you are the weapon and the gun is more like a tool than a weapon.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
I started to learn game dev this month and this is my first jam, mainly I am just proud of making a completed game and I tried to implement a good amount of polish for a starter project like having the sprite change color when you can kill enemies, implementing shader to change palette, make level transitions.

None of these are revolutionary but I'm proud of working with these systems both to learn new skills while I worked on this but also hopefully takes it a little above just a minimum deliverable.

Jam Judge

We apologise for the late rating:

You did an excellent job for your first game jam! The implementation of the controls and progressive introduction of game mechanics is great! The addition of your body only becoming "solid" in a way shortly after using your gun to move is a great idea. The solid black and white art makes the game easy to look at and makes the boundaries and objectives easy to understand. The art is simple, but your sprites are also good. The music is also simple, but not too much. I like the theme, but I think the loop needs to be about 30-50% longer before it repeats to keep it from sounding too repetitive. The mechanics of movement feel really solid and polished, and they are easy to understand.

I like that your GDD lists your assets along with your development software. Adding some graphics that show your art design and how the mechanics work would be a nice addition. The design goals and ToDo list are nice to see, and an addition of goal/completion dates would also be good to go along with those. Everything else is described thoroughly and well.

You are a boss for doing so well for your first jam. You have a great sense of what good gameplay mechanics feel like, and I see that you took criticism from gameplay testers well and changed unintuitive mechanics to be more fun. Great job, and I am excited to see where you go with your future game dev career!

This was actually a pretty dang good time! I don't know if it is intentional or not but I notice if I am moving, jumping, and shooting all at the same time I go FLYING. Like super speed and super high. If intentional cool mechanic, if not, well you decide lol. Love that you can change themes. That is sweet.

I'm so glad you enjoyed. Yeah the momentum through jumping and shooting at the same time was intentional, originally to kill enemies you had to be going a certain velocity but it proved to be unintuitive in playtests because shooting alone wouldn't always work, so I changed it make it so the player would kill enemies anytime they were airborne after shooting
