  • Hello Pirate Jammer, Thank you for the submission. Starting with my experience playing the game. It was awesome and reminds me of those hyper addicting idle games. I wish there was an endless mode to chop things while my mind goes blank. I liked the visual design, simple but effective, only wish I could see effects like bits going everywhere when I slice. I liked the sound design too, simple but effective as portraying the game effects. Finally, the GDD you made ticked all my boxes and you executed well on what you set out to do with the time you had. One extra thing that could make your GGD stand out even more is some concept pictures and extra things that didn't/would not have made it into the prototype, knowing more about what you wanted to do would have been cool. Thanks again!
  • GDD Well-made GDD, with plenty of development details. Gameplay I played a lot of tossing games in my life. Your execution on the idea was very good. Very fun gameplay loop; honestly, I had trouble putting it down. What already is very fun can be improved with some tools for clarification. I would love to see some sort of timer for the power-ups you get. And I just couldn't grasp the recipes mechanics. I ended up just chopping everything I could. And that was so much fun. Art I loved the art; the 3D objects are well done and each has a "death" animation. The color palette was very pleasant. I would like to see some flair on the upgrade screen, maybe a pile of sushi you made during the run somewhere just to add flavor. (pun intended) Sound design You said it was not your forte, but the choice for BGM was on point. A short, sweet loop with great vibes. The SFX is simple and responsive and does the job very well. Last thoughts Really hard to put down. Just one more upgrade, and I will write the rest of the feedback. Okay, just another one. Oh, what if I do this combination of powers? I will finish the rating later. Great job.

Pretty sweet, solid fundamentals, had a good time playing through and beat the last gate.

The core stuff is good but I feel like this one needed a bit more juice, hitting stuff and comboing off felt good but could have been even better with some nicer VFX etc.

Another thing was the movement felt a bit basic, it seems to be just moving directly forward along the mouses aim vector, this is nice and responsive but doesn't feel like i'm actually flying, felt more like noclipping around. Would be nice if there was even just a teeny bit of inertia and aerodynamics to the shuriken (speeding up while flying down, slowing while flying up, etc etc)

Last the first few runs were quite boring, I think locking powerups behind an upgrade was a mistake, at least one of the powerups (probably speed?) should be unlocked by default cause it was honestly pretty snoozey until you start getting enough powerups to chain them.

Lots of criticism but I really did like it! Lots of fun, great core loop, fun little game, no bugs or jank and it's paced pretty well overall. Great job!

Thanks for the feedback! I agree with pretty much all of your points. Juice and UI polish were the two next points on my todo. Sadly I worked on the bare minimum needed until the very end.

For the controls I really like the ideas you mentioned. I also felt like it was tight controls but missing something. It IS just moving along the camera aim so you got that right XD.

I also agree that having the speed boost unlocked from the get go would be a good idea. My thoughts were that you start out slow, get the hang of what is happening.

Thanks for all the feedback again!

I got all upgrades to max and was very satisfying. You did an amazing  job.

A really, really enjoyable play! Controls were tight and the upgrades each felt useful without being too overpowered...except until I'd maxed all of them and saw the face of god xD awesome job with this!

Had a blast playing this! The concept of launching a shuriken to catch food is both simple and addictive. The controls feel smooth, and the upgrade system adds a nice layer of depth. Feels like guiding a tactical warhead =) Great work :D

Submitted

So very addicting!! Nearing all the upgrades now. Huge potential for lots of new upgrades like magnets, skuriken size up, maybe different button masher minigames/bonuses for starting your throw.. very very fun :D

I really wanted to add more variety in game play and in spawns and all that. I ran out of time at the end there so I had to prioritize. up until the last day I have very few 3d models done and had just finished the soundtrack. -_-

Submitted

In addition to the many nice models, you even have variations in the models and everything which adds such a nice touch. You got so much done in the time frame either way you should be proud!

Love all the different food models and the rotation of the shuriken. Looks great! Could def see this on mobile. Good SFX and music. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

Awesome game! Super simple and super fun! Music goes along very well with everything. Being able to buy upgrades between each run really makes this quite addictive to keep going. Nice job, love it!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it. With the music I was struggling so much to get something. After a day of trying that soundtrack came out. I really didn't know what to think of it at first, I didn't like. a week later, I thinks its actually good and I'm so proud lol!

Maaaan I was gonna try to play a bunch of games and just played this for a half hour coz I got fixated on beating it D,: 10/10 there goes my Sunday morning. Really fun entry, had a great time with it. Great job w/ the music, it was super catchy and will be in my head all day.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! This means a lot.

It's okay! Gameplay could use more variety. It would be better if there is some kind of immersion, like you get ninja at beginning scene shooting  a shuriken instead of just existing randomly. Same for flying vegetables, maybe if you were shooting some flying targets, balloons, and different kind of objects which behaves differently than just being there.

Developer

Yea I ran out of time. I wanted to have a really cool launch animation and some more polish and juice. I had to focus on things that actually made it work. I do plan on revisiting this in a bit, I need a bit of a break for now.

yummy avocado

Developer

My brother during playtesting was laughing that I took the time to model the inside of the avocado, pit and all, but we never really see it during actual gameplay. Yummy indeed!

four of us played your game for like 45 minutes and beat the whole thing, then got sushi because all the food made us hungry. 10/10

Developer(+1)

Awesome! Thanks for playing.

Fantastic! I loved this reminded me of an old game I'd play in school called Toss the turtle!

I played too long lol i kept getting to the wall at 3000  distance, wasn't sure  if there was meant to be more but it was fun!

Developer(+1)

That was exactly the kind of game I was inspired by. The game goes all the way to a 4th gate at 20000 distance. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

oh! I must’ve been doing something wrong damn I’ll have to get back on and get to the 4th gate :D and I loved it great job on the game

Started this up just planning to check what it looks like, but ended up playing the full thing in about 30 minutes. This game really hits the fun and dopamine factors lmao, great stuff! Very fun rendition of the classic Learn to Fly gameplay loop, and the powerup unlocks are cool too. The music is pretty good, and the powerup sounds are satisfying, I just wish there was a bit more audio for things. Also not sure what the beeping is after each run, but it’s not a big issue. Cool game, hope you participate in more jams in the future!

Developer

Hey, glad you enjoyed it, it means a lot. I believe the beeping you are referring to is a clicking sound that is supposed to be a Hyoshigi sound. It made sense at the time but it got buried under the soundtrack I believe.
