  • Hello Pirate Jammer, Thank you for the submission. Starting with my experience playing the game. I liked the gameplay here, it was interesting to deal with the enemies while trying to build up my supplies and upgrade. It was kind of hard to know what was working and what wasn't. I’m not sure if i had a passive income or I had to shoot the crystals before I got a miner. As far as I can tell there was no sound in this game, even some simple free sound can make a game a lot better. I liked the pixel art and simple animations you had here. Finally, the GDD you made was a little sparse, if you got some more thoughts and some nice formatting in there, maybe some concept diagrams, you might be able to build up an even cooler game in the long run. Even if those extra things would have never made it into the prototype, knowing what you wanted to do would have been cool. Thanks again!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
yes

Summarise your game!
YOU are a new version of a deadly disease created by an alien civilization called Mycelons as their ultimate weapon. Your purpose is to infect all of the humans and prepare the Earth for their invasion. Can you do it?

SPORES OF SICKNESS is a strategy card roguelike where you are a weaponized fungi sent on a journey to infect Earth. Play your cards to efficiently disease the pitiful humans and unlock new cards to get creative with your plan of diseasing the Earth!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player is an alien mushroom created for the sole purpose of inflicting bodily harm through means of an infection, or otherwise spreading a virus.

Every card used during gameplay represents a method of infection that the mushroom can do to any human. The color choices also indicate the theme, as bright and gnarly reds/greens are used for the player character/actions.

Apologies that the wrong feedback was posted on your game. Here is the correct one:

Hello Pirate Jammer,

Thank you for the submission. Starting with my experience playing the game. It was a fun game, I liked getting everyone infected and the explanation and build up of the challenge was engaging. I didn't run into any major issues playing the game. I think there is some room to make the one off, usually doctor NPCs, that sit in a corner away from everyone more fun to interact with. I liked the music and SFX, the background music could use a little variance. After a few minutes of the same loop I kind of forgot it was there. I loved the art and story design. The animations were a cool addition. The way it was presented was very cute and charming, belying the very sinister nature of the game. The GDD was great and ticked all my boxes. Only thing you could add is your vision for the game going forward. Even if those extra things would have never made it into the prototype, knowing what you wanted to do would have been cool.

Thanks again!

There is nothing much to say about the art that hasn't already been said. Truly a gorgeous style and great character design that really helps the whole game stand out in terms of quality. In my experience while playing the game, I didn't have any issues with bugs and the game always worked like it was supposed to, so I am able to say that I had a nice experience. The concept is simple and it reminds me of an old flash game called 'Infectionator', which is something I used to play nonstop in my childhood, so that was nice. The lore of the game seems like it can be expanded a lot too, so I'm excited to learn if you're continuing the development further. Very ncie work! Kudos to the whole team.

Game looks great and sound seems on point, but I can't understand how to drag the infect card. it plays a sound, but it does not do anything else.

Developer

you would need to drag on a character to infect

Submitted

I tried to skip the tutorial to see other cards, Infect is the only one that I am unable to drag.

Developer

Thats interesting and weird. i wish i can figure it  out but i cant reproduce it... Sorry about the confusion...

The game looked fun to play but it never let me drag any of the card onto the old people.

This was such a novel combination of deck-building and RTS, I haven't seen anything like it before! The art is absolutely gorgeous, and all the dialogue was utterly dripping with vibes. Felt very real after experiencing a global pandemic. The gameplay loop was fun, I enjoyed experimenting with different abilities, and working out when to drop the big hits was a good challenge.
Great submission, congrats to the whole team, it's clear how much work and heart went into this!

The art style is gorgeous, and your tutorial did an excellent job of teaching your mechanics. Definitely one of the more polished submissions we've seen!

Such a clever mechanic, I had a lot of fun. The variety in gameplay elements and how well everything works together is really impressive for such a short time frame.

Phenomenal job, definitely one of my highlights of this jam

Nice idea! But few things were off for me. First all cards looks the same, they should not relay on text as much after figuring out what they do, they need some visuals.  Game seems to easy, there is a plenty of time, and you can place like 100 cards for available time. Gameplay seems repetitive , infect 1 heart person, then "sneeze" and "touch" all infected , repeat. I wish there is a bit more challenge.

Good job finish the jam!

The game is super cool.  I like the card mechanics.

The infect card never allowed itself to be played, but the artstyle is impeccable and the gameplay seemed really fun when watching a friend play it!!

really cute artstyle! I liked the mystery music a lot too and the sound effects were nice! well done!

Really fantastic entry! Great art direction and the core loop was super fun. Got thru the end on my first go,  but with a bit more depth in terms of classes and cards this one would be a really great mobile game (which is uuh a complement, if it doesn't sound like one lol). But for a jam game the depth and core loop were fantastic, well done!

The game loop is interesting; I've never seen a deck builder quite like this one. I like the art style, and the music fit the atmosphere pretty well. Overall, a solid submission  :D

This game has a surprising amount of depth that I nearly didn't experince. All of the cards can be used to combo into one another nicely, and the last level was quite challenging (beat it with 2 seconds  left!!). I think a good step forward if you'd like to continue this is to consider being able to add another body/person onto the map, as once it's just down to one/2 people (whether due to samurai or exploding,) the game just turns into "how fast can I get my infect card..?"

Despite that, I still enjoyed myself. Loved the artwork and the little story between you and the queen(?) Well done :)

a card rogue about infection has to have a good strategy later on.

Liked the Art a lot.

This was a fun game! I liked the art and the cute cheeky dialogue. I'm a sucker for slightly goofy evil characters. I liked the mechanics a lot, they felt intuitive, and getting a lot of people infected in a combo was a lot of fun!  the only thing is I wish some of them like Explode Infected Human showed you what the range would be beforehand, and maybe the virologists/samurais should have a bit more of a cooldown on their skills, but that wasn't a major problem!  Otherwise, it was really cute, and felt pretty well-rounded and fun!

this is great it feels a little easy but I had fun

Really liked the art on this one. I did feel like the later rounds were a bit easy but the start of the game got me hooked. Great job!
