  • Perfectly made GDD, well organized, lots of art and plenty detailed. As for the game, while there's a volume control, which I always appreciate, it doesn't seem to save. But other then that, the game is extremely well made, with smooth controls and great physics! Game is super fun and the background music, while repetitive, didn't bother me as much. 1 thing did bother me and that is that at higher speeds, controls seems to be a bit janky, but otherwise, very nicely made game.

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Arms of Resilience is a 2D platformer game where you play as a character who uses his body as a slingshot with grappling hooks that are an extension of its body, navigating your way to the top. However, climbing to the top is not as easy as it seems—you will encounter various block types and enemies that can either be destroyed on impact from your character's launch momentum or could kill your player in the process. Beware of your choices...

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The theme “You Are the Weapon” is interpreted by making the player's body be used as a tool to attack, dodge, break through barricades and maneuver through the level.

Controls

LMB/RMB: Shoots left/right grapple
Space bar: Launches you between your grapples
R: Retract grapples
CTRL + R: Reset level
ESC: Opens escape menu

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
How amazing the game is and killing enemies and breaking blocks

This one is interesting. At first I tried to navigate via selecting two different points, but ended up just using one point for the most part and space bar to go as fast as possible to explore routes. I didn't end up finishing but felt like I got far. Movement is the best part of the game, I think building  some levels around choosing two points and trying to arc yourself somewhere accurately would be cool. Right now I can just spam the grapple and leap without too much thought over the mechanic.

Good job on submitting!

Thank you for playing! We are planning to add some new levels in the future and potentially a level creator for players to make their own levels and publish them for others to play. I appreciate the feedback on what you would like to see on future levels it helps us come up with ideas. :)

As for the ending, it is quite far up there, it takes me about 3-4 minutes but I’ve noticed the average player takes between 15-30 minutes to complete the game for the first time. We may add a meter to see how far the player is from the top.

Thank you for the feedback and I hope you had fun!

This is quite an interesting game! Not sure but seems there is a bit of some attack on titans vibe here with the movement controls. Speaking of which, is very hard to use effectively, and I am ashamed to admit that I rage quit after 40 min of gameplay when my fingers starting to be painful XD. Was going to ask if there is an end to the climb but apparently there is. At least I got to see the HI text somewhere on the left though.

Beside the unforgiving controls (and that's pretty much intended), I think the enemies are much worst and unfair at times. While its able to defeat the non-spike ones, being able to shoot so quickly really makes defeating one not a viable strategy at all. It doesn't help with the fact that the map is huge, and player don't really know where to go.

With everything said though, this is a nicely built game indeed! Good job!

Thank you for playing :) it is meant to be a little hard. The enemies have a trick to them. They do shoot fast but if you bait a shot they can't shoot for a while. It is punishing but definitely adds a skill ceiling.

Thank you for playing and I appreciate the feedback!

We are currently working on making the round enemies less accurate (stormtrooper aim) as well as making the spikes hitbox smaller, that way it will be a little bit more forgiving. That update should be released shortly after the game jam, along with a couple of other bug fixes.

As for the map, it was supposed to have a lot of paths that all eventually reach the to the top for people to find optimal speed running paths =P

All that being said though, thank you for the feedback and I hope you still had some fun playing our game!

My arms feel all stretchy!  Have not played a game like this in ages, and what a blast of nostalgia!  Love the music, a throw back to my youth.  Question, does stretchy arm guy have a name?

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing! Happy you enjoyed it, as for the name we decided to call him Bill “Slingshot” Forest II.

Developer(+2)

Thank you for the kind words! As the composer of the music it was the first time I worked with 8-bit sounds, glad you believe it worked out in the end. Also his name is Bill :)

This is really fun, I love the swinging around mechanic it's a lot of fun to use. I also appreciated that while the game is difficult, it's not psychotic difficulty like a lot of rage style games are. Great work on this!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I’m glad you had fun! We were trying to go for a game that could be enjoyed by both casual and veteran players so I’m glad that worked out :D

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing! The level design was a big challenge but we'll keep heading in that direction 💪

Really cool game ! The physics and movements are really cool to play with. I am craving to use some more open spaces to just swing around over houses, attack on titans style.

The music feels super great ! Maybe add some more variation for the sounds ? Even though I have to say they fit the aesthetics 100%.

Overall great game ! Good job !

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing :) Thank you for the feedback it seems like people would like to see the movement utilized more. The music was made by our composer so unfortunately we didn't really have time to add more for this jam. We appreciate the feedback <3

I like the main mechanic a lot. But when combined with the enemies and spikes it becomes a little frustrating. I want to just have fun flinging around! That said, it's still fun! Good job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing :) the game design was planned to be foddian so it does have a planned element of difficulty.

Developer(+2)

Thanks for the feedback! I’m happy you still enjoyed it regardless :)

Easy mode? 👀

I am addicted. This is so much fun to play just ragdolling the player through the level. Getting reset to the beginning does not leave a bitter feeling like in Jump King or Getting Over It, it just is fun. Playing. Winning. Losing. All of it. 10/10 Love it❤

I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing! :3
