- The music is so groovy! I really like how it hearkens back to old school shooters in the sounds used and the composition. The graphics are also very reminiscent of that era, so it feels great. I appreciate that your splash screen says that the map takes a while to load: thanks for that warning. Hopefully future updates will allow the game to load faster. It seems like the Tesla Gun does not work properly, unfortunately. Your lateral movement is also faster than cardinal movement as well, which makes running up/down/left/right feel a lot worse than nw/ne/se/sw. Your game fits the theme pretty decently, as you are a mobile weapon platform but also employ weapons. I would have liked to see who did what in your GDD, as well as specific examples of the art, games, and music that your game is influenced by. Seeing UI wireframes would be good, and more examples of what your art direction is would be good to see. You have all the necessary categories for your GDD, but it's missing depth. Adding visuals and more descriptive wording would really help it shine. Well done overall and I want to see this game completed!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes
Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes
Summarise your game!
A twin stick style roguelike where you play as a dead soldier who's brain was implanted in a mech to cleanse the galaxy. The player selects a loadout of 2 weapons that can be fired with the right and left mouse button. As the player kills enemies they drop xp which can be collected to level up. When the player levels up they are given a randomized selection of upgrades from a pool to choose from with randomized rarity. The player faces waves of enemies with ramping difficulty and wins the game if they survive 15 minutes.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
A repurposed mind, the player character is a weapon used to eradicate alien lifeforms.
Please be patient with the load screen. We had to remove multi-threading for the browser. It takes a while to load but it does work(we tested a lot). If the browser asks if you want to wait say yes, it may pop up more than once.
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Procedurally generated map, art & sound. The pre-rendered art is intended to mimic the style of late 90's RTS games. All assests, sounds, and music were created by our team! We didnt use any outside assets.

There is a lot of nostalgia in this game for me. Thanks for putting it together!
this is a cool game :D I really like the art style (the scorpions r super cute) and the vibe of the game. I'm kind of a sucker for survivor games, and this one was pretty fun :D I liked the silly You Are The Weapon tagline. I think this game could've used a bit more mechanics or something to vary gameplay, but on a time limit, this is still really cool. I found the Tesla canon to be completely overpowered, and when I used the gun and the grenade launcher the first time I got overwhelmed towards the end with enemies and it felt like I couldn't get enough firepower even with plenty of upgrades. It was really cool though, and it was satisfying to watch a ton of enemies die at once. Good job getting your game out there :D
Mecha Gang Rise UP!
Cool game! The lore is cool, it reminds me of Dune's Navigators or Ship Minds from To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. The controls are fine, but if you're going to be holding down Left/Right the whole time I think you should just have them be shooting automatically instead and let the player turret around. I think personally it's just a little too easy? But maybe the tesla gun is just op. Just ratchetting the tension just enough is something that gives survivor games that trigger in the brain of oh man! I just survived. But again it might have just been my run as I see other commenters that actually got that experience. The art of the enemies and thinktank was good, but felt out of place against the background to me. I liked the music it was cool.
Cool stuff! <3
Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the narrative and music! We had always intended to have a setting to autofire but unfortunately we encountered last minute techincal issues with other areas of the game that left us without the time to finish implementing autofire. Definetly agree that the tesla gun is op and in general the game is too easy. Additional balance passes were sadly another casualty of running out of time before the submission deadline. We are hoping to do additional balance changes and QOL after the judging.
This is awesome! I had this moment of high tension early on where I was totally surrounded and was sure I was dead, but then I suddenly got a little power spike and was able to get my head above water again. The build up of tension and relief was A+ (At least for my run)
I love the sprite work. The pseudo 3d looking 2d sprites reminds me of old-school blizzard games, which is what you were going for, I think, considering the resemblance to Starcraft.
There's this one golden rule in game design that I always like to keep in mind - There should always be a reason not to hold a button down. For ThinkTank, there's never any reason to let go of your 2 mouse buttons (at least for the weapons I chose). I think a good solution here would be to just have the guns auto-firing and the player just has the control the direction of fire with their mouse, or ammunition should be some kind of resource that you need to manage do incentivize not just holding down the shoot buttons.
Great game, well done!
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing! You bring up a good point, I think that setting was on our to-do list if we had time, but you put it very nicely.
Thanks again, glad you enjoyed it!
Oh yeah! I cleared the planet of aliens! And the Tesla gun is very powerful!
This game is actually HYPE. I love the prerendered visual style and I was NOT expecting to see custom weapon loadouts and upgrades! The loading screen is long but the narrative text got me legit hyped up. Also just the name “Think Tank” made me chuckle. Godot FTW!!! And great job!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to us.
