Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous.

  • The game plays a bit clunky in browser, but its fine. The GDD is a good base for the development of the game. The game is a solid idea and well developed. The movement feels solid and the gun control is done well, but at the end of the day you created a FPS game, for the continuation of the games development, forget the theme of the jam and create an awesome fast-paced FPS game with different upgrades to the double barrel as well as the player. When it comes to the art style of the game try to check the times when the double barrel was first developed and maybe try to incorporate the development of such a gun with the modifications to it. The game is a great idea and has a lot of potential, keep it up.

Congrats on finishing the jam! I managed to get to level 2, but then died because the ground was deleted :(

I think that movement-wise there is potential with the enemy spawning and the platform positions. It would be nice if there wasn't the possibility of falling off the map until maybe later levels. I think the starter levels should be more boxed in as you learn the movement mechanics.

I would've really liked more audio cues in regards to the enemies. Shooting is one of them but often an enemy will spawn behind you and you will not know that it is there and that it is shooting at you and then you will die which is unfair.

I also wish that there was significantly more ammo and less exp needed to level up. It is awkward to jump around and shoot and aim if one of my WASD fingers is being used to scramble and find Q (of which I hit tab). I found myself reloading more than engaging with the environment and the enemies. You also need to kill A LOT of enemies to progress at all, and the enemy hit box seems to be very small so even though I felt like I should've hit the enemy I did not.

I had to stop playing because the game was causing my wrist to flare up - maybe consider gamepad support for the future to help with this.

I think there's potential, but it needs some more refinement. Great job!

Thanks for playing! The web version of the game is indeed very unbalanced but I updated the desktop version to fix all of those issues (balancing, controls, less frustrating to play and new things too) so it would he great it you checked it out if you are interested. Thanks for the feedback!

For whatever reason the web version didn't want to capture my mouse. But after I died a couple of times it finally did and I had some fun. I think the biggest thing is figuring out how to make shotguns feel good while dealing with a lot of enemies. It felt like I could only hit one enemy at a time causing me to get overwhelmed. I also encountered something where I didn't have to reload at all for some reason which was cool then the game got crazy for a while. Deleting the floor was crazy, didnt' expect that.

I liked that you could quickly fall to the ground. Overall felt fun to move around the level with the swaying of the shotgun.

The web version is so buggy for some reason despite working fine on the desktop version. If you had fun playing then you can try the desktop version. it's not part of the jam but i have been adding more content to it. Thanks for playing though!

Yeah exporting to web sucks. I'll def give the download a go!

Developer(+1)

That would be great! Do tell me what you think of it if you do try it.

Okay then, "unfiltered feedback and suggestions".

(seems like most of these issues were already fixed in the desktop build but I am rating the version that was submitted to the jam)
Main problem with the game right now is it's balance issues: there are a lot of enemies that shoot you with tiny bullets without telegraphing it in any way. If (more of a when) they hit you, you lose 25% of hp with the only way to heal is to level up. To do that you need to kill 40+ enemies which usually happens right on 1 minute mark. At that point the only way to survive is to constantly jump off and pray.
There are a lot of ways to fix this and make the game feel great. 1) Skill way: readable enemy patterns to master dodging, even if they are in groups or behind you. 2) Survivor way: enemies deal chip damage which you can tough through until you are overwhelmed. 3) Die fast, Upgrade fast : you can kill and heal faster than your health drains. And of course combining that all.

Movement feels great! After I stumbled on rocket jumps and started constantly shifting. Theme is interesting, would love to see how you'll expand on it. Having to manually reload really sells the double barrel shotgun! Sounds are nice, if a bit loud. Upgrades are interesting but I couldn't really read into them and think as enemies kept spawning.

Great start anyway! Keep making games and having fun while at it!

Double barrel shotguns are pretty hard to pull off and still make fun, good job.

I loved the movement. It felt nice and smooth, same for the sound effects. The map was grayboxed, the gameplay was there, and I liked it. The charged shot including knockback was perfect, allowing for some fun movement techniques. Great work!

Love the logo! Looking forward to see what you do with this!

The beating heart kinda made me think of Wrought Flesh

Developer

Thanks! I am glad you liked the logo.  I didn't know about Wrought Flesh before this comment but I may definitely use it as inspiration in the future.
