I think you've started something interesting here with the non-linear world and emergent storytelling. The gameplay doesn't quite gel for me yet but I think with more time this could turn into something cool.
Sometimes I couldn't see where I was supposed to jump which made the platforming kind of troublesome. I ended up spamming the bomb button to find the breakable terrain instead of using the animal companion 😅
That said I think you've hit the criteria pretty well. I didn't run into any bugs. Well done.
Love the look of this game, especially the robot and its little cat side-kick. I also like that this was a pretty forgiving platformer. It was also cool the way you revealed more of the story throughout using the signs. I think this is the start of something pretty great. I hope you continue working on it.
Pretty cool game! Is there an ending? I think I went to all the places you can get to but maybe I overlooked something. I reached dead ends on both the left side and right side of the map, and I assume the dead end at the right side is the end as you "leave" the abandoned area. I like that the level design is a bit convoluted, but at the same time you have the battery mechanic which forces you to fully explore an area as you can't go back later without any batteries. Not much of a problem right now (unless I somehow missed the ending) but if you plan to expand on this mechanic it's something to keep in mind.
I like the battery sniffing mechanic, but I think it would work a little better if it differentiates between "can't reach it" and "there's nothing nearby". Also, why not have the pet do it automatically? At some point I was just spamming E until my pet reacted. This would make the pet more autonomous and interesting, I think.
All in all I enjoyed my playthrough, it was pretty fun exploring the place. Good job! :D
The destructible terrain and the ability for the fox to sniff out buried items was really cool. The handwritten notes scattered around the world were a really nice touch. Just wish there was a bit more gameplay to go with the story, but it doesn't affect the rating.
I liked this a lot! Using the animal to help look for batteries was a really good use of the theme. One thing I would recommend is making the animal's role a little more clear from the start, maybe by adding a tiny bit more instruction. It took a second to understand that "press e to search for batteries" meant having the animal go look, and "nearest battery is too high or too far" had me thinking I had to climb for a while before realizing it just meant the animal couldn't find a path. Once it clicked I really liked it though, and overall I think the mechanic worked out really well! Great job!
The pet mechanic was a very cool and inventive implementation of the theme! I also enjoyed the free-form exploration of the different areas in the level
The bomb system is a good addition to your previous game, in my opinion there could be even more digging around. It got me a while to realize the cat is used to search batteries, but that definitely made finding batteries more focused. Nice job with the storytelling too, using letters instead of basic narrative was a good idea.
There is a bug that prevents me from using keyboard sometimes I launch the game, but I managed to fix it by reloading the page.
The story was great and you got the projectile and animal mechanics in there with the bombs and cat. Fun game.
Love the story! I wish the cat did something more than just walk around with me. I couldn't figure out what "Q" was supposed to do. Fun game otherwise!
