Clearly, a lot of passion went into this game. The game gives me Saw vibes. The voice acting was very well done. The modeling, animation, and texture work was amazing. I don't know if there is a problem or not since others seems to be able to play. But no input seems to be working for me on the first puzzle, I tried relaunching and redownloading. Either that or I can't figure out what to do for the life of me. Quite a shame since this game looks really good! I will check it out again once you release your post-jam patch. Good work!

Hmm, hate to say it, but I feel this Joy fellow is not very good dude lol.
Jokes aside, pretty impressive how much cutscenes and story you guys managed to get done for the time limit. Of course I'm always just impressed when someone takes effort to put voice acting and any animation to their game, so to see lots was nice. Sad to say, my overall experience was hindered by bugs and some things just not working at all, but besides that good job.

What a wild ride this is! I really respect the approach you've taken - creating an interesting, sprawling game that favors experience and atmosphere first. There's so much involved here, from the voice acting, dialog and camera sequences and varied puzzles to make the game feel like a complete story. This is leaps ahead of your prior work in some ways, and that's such a great thing to see. I certainly can't fault the ambition and creativity here at all for a jam. Great stuff.

The game isn't really similar to mainstream games, but I think you've used inspired narrative sequences that remind me of them. The inbound train to set the scene and convey an ominous mood is a little Half Life. Having a villain that weaves in and out of the story until a final climactic encounter, almost mascot-like in their presence, is a common trope too. I really encourage you to take those narrative motifs and inspirations and think about how to use the vivid, interesting ideas and worldbuilding you have in the toolkit to thread together a clearer narrative. I think it has a lot of potential to do so.

As far as constructive feedback, hey? Who cares, I enjoyed the game, obviously there's cut corners but it's necessary to deliver this experience in a week. If you were looking for stuff to improve, voice acting is a bunch of fun, but I'd look at adding effects and limiting the sound levels could help. Signalling the logic and input method of the puzzles to the player, whilst just short of making it too easy, could improve the user-friendliness for the unexplained puzzle mechanics too.

Great work!

Thanks for playing! And thank you so much for the feedback, I am taking a lot of notes and hope to update and improve the game after the jam! I agree on the common narrative tropes which I did use due to the timeframe, I certainly hope to go back, improve and revise the execution, there are plenty story aspects I didn't explore that I wanted too, such as the relationship between N1GHTMARE and JOY which didn't get much explanation, or even more on JOY's backstory.

Great voice acting and atmosphere, loved the SAW vibes. Like someone else stated, I got the arcade machine fly through walls bug. Hope it gets fixed soon!

Developer

Yeah, I can't upload the patch due to the jam voting, but I have fixed it and will be releasing it after the jam!

I loved seeing this game develop, The scene and atmosphere is really well done! It looks put together for such a short time frame, maybe some more text prompts  and bug fixes- the sound design was great !

Developer (2 edits)

thanks for the kind words and the feedback! I am currently working on a massive update for the game, including all the bug fixes! I will take the text prompt idea into account!

I really enjoyed the story setup in this! The voice acting was pretty solid.  I was able to solve the first puzzle, but  unfortunately after I got out of the chair I picked up a token  and put it into the machine while the guy was still talking. I then started floating through the map indefinitely  and was unable to move or do anything.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I know that bug, I am currently fixing it as we speak! For now I can tell you how to avoid it while I finish the patch, I've found the issue arises from the fact we are moving when we click the machine, we will keep moving. So make sure that you don't move before clicking. Thanks for reporting the bug! I'll get to it immediately!

How does one actually play? Feel like I've clicked everything pressed every button but nothing does anything so I get stuck at the first puzzle.

Developer

You got stuck at the first puzzle? Hm, well the controls are your usual mouse click and WASD. What OS are you using, cause I used windows while making and testing it, don't the lights on the trap buttons light up? After they have finished you have to click them in the same order

I'm running windows too. I could look around but I'd click on the buttons and nothing happens. ill try re downloading it and try it again.

Hey! I'm also having the same issue with the first puzzle, I can't click or interact with anything. I can only look around :( there's still time to bug fix and upload a new build, I wanna finish this!

Weird update. I redownloaded it and pressing the buttons worked, however when I get out of the chair the character is super floaty and I can clip through walls... any thoughts?

Great looking scenes and objects with very creepy SFX and music although I struggled a bit to understand what I was supposed to do.
