Very unique style you got there !

As a pianist I liked the solo piano approach, and you have some great ideas ! You really kept me surprised all along, and it does feel you're telling a story and create differents atmopheres in each part

There are some great dissonances, maybe sometimes a bit too much, I would have added more rests and "breathing" points, but overall I think it's great !

My favorite part is from 1:25 to 1:55, I really loved that intriguing motif and colors. It made me think of some FFX OST Theme (which I really love)

Good job !

The solo piano is killer! Love those deep, dark notes. They really add color and depth. Great job here.

You should be proud that this is your first completed song! Well done! Not even my first one was this good.

Well done!

I love solo piano pieces, and I think they are really hard to pull off, good job man!

Also saw it was your 1st finished song, you should be proud, I wish I 1st finished song sounded this tight :D

You have some really cool dissonances at work in some sections and you really do bring out some intense parts even with a solo instrument.

Sounds good, maybe just widen it up a bit more

Good Job, take care :3

Awesome work!  Finishing tracks is often the most difficult part!  As a noob to jams I don’t have a ton of advice. Just keep writing - I enjoyed it!

Thanks! I’ll try my best to keep at it :)

Great work! Especially for a first song! You did a good job making sure there's a lot of variety, and you don't linger on any idea for too long.

Also, you mentioned you'd like feedback:

Can I ask how you built the song in your DAW? Many of your melodies sound "typed in", like you wrote them inside the piano roll/staff paper.

If you try singing along with your chords/basslines, it'll tend to lead you toward "catchier" melodies. You can record your singing, then draw the notes in your DAW to make an instrument play what you sang. You can use same trick with any instruments you play, instead of your voice.

Just to clarify: Writing music entirely in the piano roll or on staff paper is a perfectly good way to write music, and it's not "wrong" or "bad" in any way! I just mean to say that using other methods (singing/play along) will lead you down different paths you might not find otherwise.

Of course, if you were actually playing those piano parts in real life, then I have no idea what I'm talking about and you can safely disregard this feedback lol.

Thanks for the feedback! I don’t own a keyboard (or am even trained to play a keyboard) but I do play an instrument, which I didn’t even think of integrating into my workflow. I think for the next song I make, I’ll try to play it first!

First off, congrats on putting together your first piece! That's a major accomplishment!

I liked how you moved between time signatures and keys - really helped keep track of where we are in the story. The way you phrased the melody was also nice to hear.

The main feedback I have for you is that I would've liked to have heard a little more variation in the dynamics. Not necessarily the overall volume, but more so the intensity of the notes being played. For your next piece, try to incorporate dynamic markings in your score, so that the instruments play softer or louder depending on the tone you're setting for a particular section. IMO, this will have a greater impact than just lowering/raising the volume and still playing the instrument with the same intensity.

But please take this with a grain of salt. What you did for your first piece was awesome, and the fact you went for the hard mode on your first attempt is impressive.

I can't wait to hear what you do next. Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for the feedback! As I think and reflect on the song, I completely agree. I feel like I tended to have one dynamic for each section and didn’t really build it too much. I will try to make it a goal to work for in my next project!
