Description
Band of Fortune is an old, found record from times long gone, sung by miners about the triumphs and hardships of mining life. Inspired by Disney's "Heigh-Ho" and old military songs in the public domain, I wanted to experiment with degrading the master to an old gramophone-era sound. The challenge is whether the musical idea translates to listeners, given the grit and missing frequencies in the sound. As the composer, you know the song by heart by the time you start mastering, making it hard to judge if others hear it the same way. I've included a traditional master of the song in Soundcloud if someone is curious. But the Old record version is my submission. Advanced for difficulty level.

I think the gramophone feel you were going for is masterfully executed! The dynamics are also incredible I quite liked them. This is a nice cinematic piece you've made!

Masterfully orchestrated piece, it was cinematic and journeyful. idk if thats a word but I feels right. Great piece!

i'm not sure if i'm hearing a harpsichord sound or maybe it's like a glockenspiel + the high ends of the string staccato LOL but after listening to the non-gramophone version, i do like that sound. i enjoy the slow string section in  the middle @ 2:09 and the brass that comes in towards the end

haha just kidding i realized i could just look at your DAW screenshot. there IS no harpsichord, it's an anvil sound! that makes a lot of sense

Stunned, this is a super neat idea--I definitely think you nailed the vintage recording feel you were after!
