I love the idea of incorporating the stock market as part of the growth theme. I thought the buy and sell mechanics worked pretty well with price changes over time and I really like the idea of incorporating the news as an indicator for stock trends.

The overall look and droning sound totally captured the soul-crushing nature of working at a banking terminal in a dystopian society. Definitely a fun concept to continue to play with.

Thanks for making such a neat project! I hope you continue to expand on it in the future.

Plays pretty well! As the other comments pointed out it would be nice to be able to read the news "on the fly" and make more meaningful decisions rather than just bying and hoping, but hey, it shows the true nature of stock markets better the way you did it :)

Hello LGWV,

This is an exciting and different use of the jam theme. The use of the computer terminal works very well, and it is quick to learn how to use it, even if the game seems complex at first.

Maybe if the news were smaller and quicker to read, the game would become a little more dynamic, but I don't know if that was your intention.

I had fun playing, but I'm afraid the debt is still high 😅

Congratulations on your entry!

Definitely fair on the news length. My original plan for the “rogue-lite” portions were for the news to be shorter, but to develop throughout the day to make for sudden ups or downs if you didn’t pay attention to breaking news. Once I got near the deadline and saw that I wasn’t going to finish in time, decided to lengthen it and lean more into pushing a quick skim at the start of the day.

Thanks for playing!

This game taught me to always go all in on the dip. It was surprisingly fun. Almost like real life investments, without the disappointment of losing your retirement

Well done.

The concept reminds me, of my own entry for  the "Godot Wild Jam #36 - Our third year!" - Theme: Uncontrollable Growth :)

The concept is very interesting! I really wanted to make line go up, but I couldn't really figure out how to predict the stocks from the newspaper :(

Developer(+1)

no worries! The logic behind the generated news and its effects on the market are surprisingly complicated and the main reason I didn’t finish in time lol, but to put it simply:

  • Each paragraph is either a misc event, positive company event, negative company event, or a red herring. Misc events are mainly world flavor.

  • Positive company events increase the likelihood of positive stock movements for the day through weighted averages, but doesn’t make downward movements impossible. Same thing with negative company events, it increases the likelihood of negative stock movements for the day.

  • Red herring paragraphs are meant to be refuted or otherwise “zeroed out” by other paragraphs in the news article, making it so the player needs to be careful if they just skim for company names or stock tickers.

Really cool concept! Visually really well done (the CRT shader could have been turned down slightly though)

Also lines only went down after I bought them >:(

Developer

definitely agree on the shader. Original plan was to make the game slightly creepy / unnerving / dystopian, shader was meant to help with that.

Shame it is unfinished, still think its a cool concept and think its visually great
