artstyle and gameplay were on point.
the mix of pacman gameplay with a rhythm game seems like a match made in heaven... definitely a fun gameplay combination.
I would suggest adding a sfx for the start countdown so its easier to match it to the beat... also a way to show off the beat before the countdown would be nice or a more obvious beat indicator, as it took me a couple deaths to figure out how to play.
Thanks for enjoying it! As for the metronome countdown before the start, I sadly had to take it out an hour before submission due to audio latency issues in the web version :(. I plan to add it back soon, though!
I LOVE the music! Especially the part where the main melody cuts out and its just the bass. It feels so groovy. It took me a while to figure out how to get out of spawn, but after realizing I needed to wait for the countdown, it became fairly easy. It took me a while to win though.
Congrats!! And thanks for enjoying the game :))
Interesting version of pacman!
Not sure if it was intentional but if the player doesnt press anything after the game starts on the web version they fail and lose a life, I think allowing the player to stand still would really help the player get familiar with the mechanic and acclimate to the beat. I would suggest having the player lose a move as punishment for missing a beat rather than losing a life. I think this is enough of a punishment given that there is already an inherent threat of the ghosts chasing the player down.
Great job completing the game though! Visuals are all super solid
Interesting suggestion - I'll consider it, though there are some parity issues to think about (I preferred if pacman and player were always exactly an even number of squares away, or else they might pass through each other if timed exactly). Thanks for checking it out! :)
interesting way to play pacman with moving to the beat XD
Thanks :)
This looks awesome. Afraid I could only checkout the web-version, and did not get very far at all. Maybe it is the bugs, or maybe it was me. But it looks cool enough for me to keep an eye on bug fixes for this one.
Love the concept & am looking forward to updates!
Thanks! Hopefully with a few more updates on visual cues, bug fixes, and a tutorial you'll get to play it the way it was intended :)
Pac-Man with beat – what a great idea! But I'm just too clumsy to keep up with the rhythm 😄
Cool idea and great execution. Got hooked eating pixels to the beat. Difficulty was great for me. Still wondering what the other stamps are, as I only got one for all ghosts chasing
Congrats! For now the other two stamps are 1. beating the game without deaths 2. beating the game without using trapdoors, but i plan to add more once the jam is over. Thanks for checking it out :)
I’m a bit frustrated because the concept is awesome, but I couldn’t make it out of the spawn without dying. Maybe
I just don’t have the rhythm in me...
I'm sorry about that! Have you tried refreshing the browser? The game has around a 50% chance of not working properly for some reason :( If the game is working fine, then you should try timing the move to match the movement of the ghosts, on the beat. The first move should be after "3, 2, 1, Go!", aligned with the first move of the ghosts
couldn't leave the middle without dying
Sorry about that, it's probably a latency issue, so maybe try refreshing the page a few times! If it works properly, then you should try moving at the same time with the ghosts (on beat)
Very cool idea! I always love seeing twists on arcade classics and I think with a little more feedback it would be perfect! Great work!
Thank you!!
great idea but my skill issues don't let me leave the middle of the map without dying
Sorry to hear that - it could be a latency issue, so try restarting the game (refresh the page) and try to match the move to the rhythm & the ghosts!
I really like this idea, very unique! I wish there were a little feedback for the beats because it is a little difficult now to see them, great work overall, very cool game!
Thank you! I'll make sure to improve the visual (and maybe even audio) feedback
Lovely artwork/presentation. But could not survive for long. Perhaps a skill issue :p
Had to stare at the beat indicator, but then I don't see where i was going. Perhaps there could be a slight flash of the background in addition to the indicator.
Perhaps the difficulty could ramp up through a decreasing threshold, letting you be a bit sloppy in the beginning and requiring more tight sync further on.
Thanks! I plan to make a more helpful visual cue, so that the player can get help without looking away from the pacman. So hopefully it will be a bit easier then.
Sweet. Some of the features could have needed some more feedback though. Like a sound when eating the dots or so.
Thanks! Perhaps I can add a small sound for eating pellets
Cool little take on the pacman formula
Thank you :)
What pacmac should be. Loved the colors and music. Really great job!
PS. No issues at all playing on web. Everything synced nicely!
That's great to hear! Thanks for playing :)
I never though that I'd be playing Pacman like this. I was very confused at first and then I learned that in this game I need to input movement key exactly on the beat. Encountered a few known issues and I was able to win the game.
The music in this game helps time my movement very well, but I don't find the visual que in this game useful for me. I'd prefer the metronome sprite or some note moving towards the point rather than a pulsing circle.
Really nice, well done.
Thanks! I'll keep your comments in mind, I do think the visual cue needs to be stronger.
That's was so unexpected for me tbh. I've never liked pacman personally, but this version somehow brought it up to me. Like... Something so simple, yet so perfectly handled - is always a win. Great game, hope to see more stuff from you!
Thank you so much!! :)
Very fun game! I also think that the idea is very original.
Thank you :)
