Description
Genre:
Electronic/OST with an electric guitar, rock.

Representation in game:
I imagine this song during a finale of a narative-driven game. Our main protagonist is slowly acceptign his fate of being locked up and never having freedom again.
When almost all hope is lost, they push for the last time, fighting every obstacle that comes their way. In the end, it depends on the players choices, whether this escape will be successful or not.

Composition process:
I started from the piano/keys melody and added on top of that. I wanted two very contrasting sections, and that led to the middle section. The guitar parts were improvised and then iterated upon.

DAW used: FL Studio

Overall, I am happy with how this submission turned out. I wish I had a little more time to polish all the parts, but that is the beauty of this jam.

Message from the artist
Thank you for organising another great Jam. I really enjoyed this theme and the weekend-only format!

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The character of this game is thinking about freedom, both in the physical world, and in his head. He's trying to find what freedom truly means to him.
The image paints the styling of how I imagine the scene to look like.

the guitars in this track is crazy!! i love when things pick up a minute in, the drums and the backing guitars go harddd its awesome :))

would have liked to see some changes in mixing with the lead guitar, like something more distorted when it gets higher energy? either way its great , this was a really fun listen! well done!!

Very cool vibe here. I feel like we escaped prison to go surfing around 1:06, then kindly went back to our cell by the end. A fun listen, nice job!

The lead guitar part is really nice! I think the bass and rhythm guitar parts are getting in the way of each other, giving each one its own space in the frequency range would help a lot here. The energy overall is great. Nice job!

Great choice of synth patches - was roped in immediately. There are some really nice, subtle supporting synths buried beneath to accentuate the melody line. The guitar work is tidy - playing perfectly to the strengths of the melody that came before it and bolstering it all the more. It gets pushed more to the front after that and does a good job of elaborating on those feelings. The rhythm guitar having just a little bit of crunch adds some nice grit to the piece and also does a fantastic job of providing a pulse to to work with, alongside the drums.

This piece makes me feel.. resigned, in some ways. It has some semblance of hope and thoughtfulness, but also a quiet kind of progression - "one last push", as Micerama put it. I think their comment sums up the feelings better than my own. All in all this was good, a nice mix of textures and instruments that all complement one another rather well. Good work!

The mix of guitar with those synths in the intro works great to set the "given up, but gearing towards one last push" mood and establish the melody. It builds into the chorus very well but the guitar (((to me))) sounds a little too chill in the chorus and could use some more oomph, like distortion to make it sound more like a roar then a chill whisper. That could be the vibe you're going for though so take that with a grain of salt! Outro's got all the same feedback as the intro, great way to close it out.

Great work!

I love to hear a track fully utilising the guitar. Love the tone on the background guitar, it really gave a punch to the whole feel.

I also like your use of rythm in the melodies, espessially when the triplets hit at 1:30 and the melodic line after 2:00

The track could have been better mixed, the lead guitar didn't really have the punch it deserved. Maybe if you double tracked it or raised it's volume, that would help.

Otherwise, a really great composition, and it's really impressive that you improvised a lot of this.

It was a treat to listen to!

nice sounds, very creative approach to the orchestration, could use some more harmonic movement other than that good work :)

Really loved your composition, really solid work! I wish the main melody when the tempo changes was a little rougher sounding, just to push the melody a little more, the guitar is very soft which fits the intro and outro sections perfect

Thank you for your feedback! I agree, listening back to the song, a harsher tone would have been nice there to fully differentiate the sections.

Nice live play!

the drastic change partway through at 1:05 was a beautiful touch! your melody writing worked very well for this — i love the slight tinge of melancholy that accompanies the driving rhythms, which works with the idea of whether or not our poor protagonist will be able to taste freedom again. :0

i'd love to see even more vibrancy and energy shifts in the upbeat section... such as a bridge with chord progression changes? regardless, you did well juxtaposing two different feels to hint at the storyline of your project's concept. great job!

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions! You're right, I think a bridge section would fit nicely. Well, an idea for the next jam :D

Nice work!! Bravo!

The subtle static at the start was a really nice touch, it helps keep that amazingly droning bass synth refreshing. Also wow that guitar tone is amazing omg. The tempo shift in the middle was really welcome, and then the shift back to the main tempo was also great. I really liked this song! Great job!

The tempo shift hallway through was exactly what this track needed! It kept me engaged and listening!

I think the main guitar lead could have some work done. It feels a little too clean for that second half which makes it stick out strangely.

Developer

Hi, thank you for the feedback and the kind words! Yup, listening back to it, changing the tone would have improved it a lot.

I like the rhythm guitar in the background! :)
