Description
Runtime: 2:54
Genre: Instrumental/Soundtrack
Software Used: Ableton
Inspirations:
Since my version of freedom is represented by flying/flight - I thought through moments in my life where I felt trapped. My cover art is a painting I did during that timeframe. I was without a job, my wife was carrying all of our bills, my mental health tanked and I felt stuck. I wanted to get out of my current situation - to breathe again and this painting is a representation of that. A moth flying through space - free to be wherever it wants to be.
Process:
Once I received the theme, I thought through what freedom means to me. What first came to mind was flight or flying - the ultimate freedom. Throughout this journey of making this song, I left my apartment to be somewhere that was different to help bring me into that mindset.
Message from the artist
This is my 1st OST jam and my first time publishing my music. Whether you like it or not, thank you for being apart of my journey as a musician. I hope you'll continue to stay along for the ride as I grow so thank you for listening! While this was a definitely a crunch, for the 1st time - I feel free
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
The song represents the freedom of flight. It follows the story of a bird, bug etc that is taking off into the sky and soaring.

First time publishing your music? A really nice, cozy start, there's not much feedback to say as others have made it clear but I'm looking forward to hearing more of what you make!
This feels a lot like taking the first steps into freedom, which I think perfectly matches both the vibe you were going for and the overall theme. I liked the chord progression a lot and the different sections all worked well together for a complete narrative, though I do feel like there could be some more movement in the dynamics to further embellish those high and low moments. Volume automation on the strings and some velocity randomizations on the piano can help with this! Overall, really liked the story it told, keep up the good work!
The artwork is really cool! Great idea, integrating it with this jam and the theme.
The piano seems to serve as the main director for the rhythm of this track. The arpeggio is nice, but I think as others have said that it would've been worth changing it up a little or perhaps modulating to another key to prevent ear-fatigue. The orchestral elements surrounding this throughout are great. Nice articulation, and never too busy. Noticing some good use of panning as well to spread them out in the mix.
Solid work - great interpretation on the theme. Best of luck!
Thank you for the honest feedback. Always looking to improve! Will work on that on my future pieces. Also thanks for the compliment on my art piece. Its actually a pretty big painting I did hanging up my wall.
Nice work! Really pretty things happening, good chord and melody interaction!
I would maybe think about changing the background piano arpeggiated motif a few times through out the the piece to keep it fresh and varied!
Bravo!
Thank you for the compliment and feed back. Will def. work on that.
Thanks for sharing your story, I hope you're doing better now. I think your submission does a good job at portraying the flight theme you were going for. I would take a second pass on the volume levels throughout, the instruments tend to go in and out of focus at odd times. Nice work!
Thank you!Im in a better place. And yes I agree, I've been struggling with mixing and mastering and volume control. Def. need to practice more.
A lot of emotions there! It's rather minimalistic in terms of intruments but the composition is still very captivating. Great job!
thank you so much for sharing your personal journey AND your music, i appreciate your vulnerability in doing this for a jam!! i love the storyline that you chose to represent and symbolize with your piece, the uplifting instrumental palette works well for it. i think the piano ostinatos metaphorically work well for bugs and birds taking flight! ^^
the bass strings coming in to increase the intensity of the arrangement are lovely... to me this currently represents the resolution that you've already reached. lovely job!
I really appreciate the emotional significance of this piece to you, and now the emotional significance of this piece to me! What you've captured here is truly beautiful! Like others have said, definitely keep it up!
Really like the motivation and story behind this Solcat, definitely understand some of the struggles you've been through and that it's difficult and scary but also very uplifting to release your own music. I released my first piece only last October in my first Lone Rabbit Jam. As for the piece, really good job on it, I think it evokes what you're trying to well and definitely get across the sensation of tranquil flying. I would say that maybe some elements in the track could feel more blended together, but it's a solid composition. Well done!
Nice stuff! keep making music!
Thank you! Will do! :)
Fellow Ableton user!! I like the use of the strings, and I also think the chords in the piano are well selected!
Thank you! Nice meeting another Ableton user! Fairly new to writing on it! Feel free to share any tips or tricks on Ableton.
this is a lovely little piece that i think aptly captures the feelings you described, while also being uplifting!
Thank you so much. I try my best to capture those feelings.
First of all, I feel you. And I hope that you are in a better place now, you deserve it.
As for the track, it is really beautiful and so heartfelt. One can tell that you have poured in a lot of personal emotions in it and it makes it shine... In the meantime, have a nice day and we've got this!
In a much better place. Thank you for your kind words.
Congrats on your first submission!
I think something to improve is that the song feels rather repetitive. The piano is constantly playing basically the same thing and when it isn't playing those fast notes it's still playing. It wore on my ears a bit.
Some different sections with different instruments would elevate the piece.
Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate the help. Still learning and will apply your feedback to future writings.
