You dropped this: 👑

This is so awesome; you can probably use this as a base to make a really fun game -- very solid gameplay loop! And then when I raised my dragon enough to be able to ride it and found out there are other islands I was blown away!

I planned to only spend five minutes on each submission but I ended up spending twenty because I was having so much fun! I may come back just to play this when I have some time just so I can raise more dragons.

Full 5/5 on all categories from me. Even when taking into account that you used assets, this has got to be among one of the best submission I have ever played in the 5+ years I have been running this jam, if not THE best.

Wow thank you!!!

Yeah we only had time to sort of flesh out two of the four islands, but glad to hear you enjoyed our game.

We have been working on it and have added (so far):

  • character customization
  • clothes
  • more crops
  • quests (to assist with learning the game + things to do)
  • more critters

We may post an update for it sometime, or perhaps enter it into the continuation jam? I thought I read about that somewhere but not sure. Anyways, thank you for hosting the jam and for the high praise!

The continuation jam is unofficially run by a long time veteran of our jam -- if you think it would be a good opportunity you are free to participate!

Right now I am busy with Atelier Yumia but I may check out your game again if it gets an update.

This is a really cute game, and I really liked the aesthetics and music! The main character is so adorable!! It is a really relaxing game, and I really like that I get to pet the baby dragon! One thing I encountered though is that my character fell off the cliff and got stuck there with no way of getting back up. I am not sure if this just means that it is game over, or maybe there is another way of getting out. And when I reload the game, my character is still stuck! 🥲 Overall, I love the colour palette used in the game, and the idea of raising dragons! 💖 I felt bad about killing the mushrooms though because they look so cute too!

Edits: Typos!

Thank you!! We had a lot of fun making it and are continuing to develop it outside of the jam.

As for your stuck problem, you could try teleporting. If you press "i" and open up the info screen, then click on the Teleport tab, you'll find that you should be able to teleport back to Terra Island.

I will try again if I do fall off the cliff (hopefully not!)! In the end, I ended up deleting my game and starting over again. I actually fell into the river once, and managed to get out by using the spacebar. By this point my dragons could fly and I checked the help menu again and saw that the spacebar can be used for both ascending and jumping, so I gave it a try and it worked! So this might also be another solution!

This is so cute and feels really solid! I enjoyed playing it ^^

Played this in multiplayer with a friend and was pretty impressed by how well it runs. Thought the pacing was a bit slow for a jam game but it was pretty fulfilling to watch dragons grow up and be able to ride them. The only thing that I think the game really needs is a bit more player direction, but aside from that, it's an all-around great game.

A really cute dragon caring game. <3

10/10, i dont care if i broke it by trying to call a dragon after 5 seconds of starting... love it

Developer(+1)

Awww thanks! Also, thanks for bringing this bug to our attention! Never tried calling a dragon before hatching one. lol :)

Interesting concept. The game remember me to a zelda in his art style.

Can you include the option to play with the direction keys? Is annoying use WASD being left-handed.

Also, I suggest that when you activate the aim mode you can attack pressing the left mouse button instead of F.

Thank you for the feedback! We are continuing to work on this project (for now) and I will make a note to include key re-mapping for future players.

Good Stuff

Movement controls are fluid and responsive. Having an accessible controls menu is great to see in a jam game.

The goals of the game and what you're able to do within the world are simple and straightforward.

Both the art and music work harmoniously. It has a relaxing, cozy mood. All of the models are cohesive, and the color palette fits perfectly.

While there isn't much to do in the game presently, it is a solid start to an enjoyable experience. I spent a fair amount of time in the game trying to progress.

Stuff to Consider

Petting a dragon doesn't seem to do anything, and if it does there is no feedback. This might be better left out of the game until it has a function.

Thank you! Happy to hear you enjoyed it.

That's a fair point about petting. It actually speeds up their growth so they will evolve faster. It definitely could use a more obvious indication of this. (Feeding also reduces the growth time)

Edit: Oh, and the first pet you give to a dragon will insta-grow the youngest of your in-progress crops. This also is a hidden feature that needs some sort of indicator somewhere haha. Once a dragon evolves, the petting counter is reset so the first pet on the evolved form will grow another crop.

I'm so glad it has a purpose! That's great.

Awee so cute, the presentation and control was through the roof on this one!. My only complaint is the initial seed growth takes so long. It would be fine if there was side activities but beyond finding the "secret" shortcut and shooting one of the critters which I felt guilty about (haha) I couldn't see much do do! The foundations are solid though!

Developer(+1)

Yeah there isn't a ton of stuff to do, sorry! Glad you enjoyed the aesthetic which was one of our main goals to create a cozy style game. We were hoping to have a bit more content but wasn't able to get there haha.

Thanks for playing!
