Description
Track 1, Bound, would be towards the start of the game, while Isa is still trapped inside. I think I unknowingly took a lot of inspiration from the Severance theme with this one lol.
Track 2, Free, would be near the middle of the game, as Isa starts becoming comfortable leaving the house. My goal here was to capture a childlike wonder while staying lo-fi and subdued.
I used Ableton 12, with a few instrument plugins, namely u-he Diva and Analog Lab, as well as some drum machine samples and guitar recorded by me.
Message from the artist
Happy to be participating in this jam, first of many!
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
I thought the art depicted a story of isolation in and of itself, which I thought was interesting paired with the word "freedom", so I wanted to portray the contrast between the two with two different sounding tracks.

I really like how much ambience there is in Bound, all of the sounds you put in create this somewhat unsettling and mysterious feel to it, its really cool! Then Free changes the feels drastically, its a very cute and soft sounding song, getting huge freedom vibes from this! It's very interesting how different these two tracks are, I wish there was more time for you to make more for this soundtrack! really good job !!
Stylish cover art!
Bound - Simultaneously relaxed, thoughtful, and a little threatening.... (I'm a huge fan of random creepy sounds that scare the player, heh)
Free - Flies... Birds... bass trumpet... ukulele... Cute synthesizer and bell-like melodies in my right ear... Cool! And cute :>
Good job!
P.S. Rawr
Watched all of Severance just a week before the jam😁! I think you evoked the same sort of falling down feel in the first track but managed to make it your own instead of just feeling like something from the show. Especially loved the glidey synth and other textural stuff, really cool!
Good stuff!
Really nice work! Very vibey, would be great backing track to a puzzler or a cozy platformer I think!
Bravo!
Oh there is some beauty in the subtlety that Bound pushes. Each element is so carefully crafted and none of them really soar above any others in the mix, creating this wonderful even, still pool of sounds; none overstepping or interfering with one another. Really lays on a thick pensive vibe as a whole, right up until the end where there is some tension that comes in on that ending chord.
Free, on the other hand, sounds almost playful at times. Good use of panning here to keep elements scattered around the place, and I am loving the samples used in this to give it some organic flair. If Bound was a perfectly still pool then this is more of a pond teeming with life. Ripples and ear candy everywhere, without anything becoming too much to disturb the mix as a whole.
You've a knack for writing subtlety without overwhelming the listener. Various pieces of the track fitting together like a puzzle to create a gorgeous finished product instead of a series of great individual aspects working against or alone from one another. This is some really good work, and a fairly unique take on the theme. Bets of luck!
The second one has this terraria / starbound vibe to me, I like it, the overall OST has some nice reverb. I haven't seen Severance yet, but it makes me curious. There was almost a little massive attack feeling in the first one :)
Good job !
this is probably my first exposure to Severance conceptually in audio form, because i have at no point watched the show LMAO i love the distinct vibes between your two tracks and how you leveraged that for a dichotomy, nicely done! i wish i could've heard more of the higher-pitched soft synth that appears in "Bound" at 1:01 a little more personally... :3c
something about "Free" reminded me of OMORI, strangely enough... my favorite part of this track is the percussion choice. i am a smidge distracted by the horn-like synth that's been panned to the right, since it's rather prominent without anything to counter it on left stereo
Hey homie, gave your two tracks a listen! :D
In BOUND, the sound design, simplicity, and reverb is phenomenal. I also love the 'chirpiness' in that one voice, alluding to the bird aspect in your game/story concept.
In FREE, the use of bird chips, the arpeggiated chord on the piano in the upper register was an EXTREMELY really nice touch. To be honest that track alone was solid enough to be a submission. Also the simplicity (i.e. not too much going on sound/instrumentation wise) is present here too and I love it. It's awesome to see people who know how to essentially 'paint' a whole canvas with only using two or three colors. Extremely well done m8! 7.5/10 keep on composing! ^^
These gliding notes on the synth are awesome! And I love how dissonant and weird this last chord feels. Nice work!
I really like how quiet and ambient these are, and totally see the Severance vibes. I can feel the intention behind each element and the whole thing feels very neat and tidy. Good stuff!
Bound feels super risk of rain 2.
Free sounds real nice! love that right ear bass a lot for some reason.
Great feel on these songs, lovely!
Such a cool take on the theme! Definitely get Severance vibes from BOUND, really enjoyed both tracks
I liked how we had a similar idea with the idea of contrast and how this translates into your composition! I think I personally would've liked to hear the drums a bit more in the track, Free, but otherwise you had a goal with it and I think you did it decently well!
I like that you used 2 tracks as a dichotomy between freedom and isolation.
The piano in free was really pretty but I think the bass noise that played in the right ear was a little stagnant. I would have liked it to be centered or change tone a couple times to reduce fatigue.
