Description
This soundtrack was made in FL Studio and has a runtime of 4:27. Honestly I don't know what genre this is in, but it's soundly in that indie vibe. I got inspired a lot by Guilty Gear and Warframe cause they've been releasing songs with lyrics as part of their OST, so I thought I could do it too... and then I realised it was only 48 hours T^T. Regardless I pushed myself to write good lyrics and write something I was proud of! I was also inspired by how sick I was the weekend prior to the announcement of the theme of the jam, so I figured let's make a song about how trapped I was while I was sick, and now here we are.
The game I envisioned with this was a game where the main character, Nathalie is a person who was afflicted by chronic illness once she started high school and stayed there an extended period of time. She died in hospital, not able to explore the world properly. She then has to explore the freedom the afterlife gives her, while learning to forgive old grudges and past grievances. This eventually gives her the opportunity to give herself personal freedom and finally find rest.
In line with the sickness vibes, I'd like to envision this track as the score to the opening cutscene of the game. Doctors scrambling to save Nathalie, as she suddenly starts to become unstable. The track goes on, eventually ending at the death of Nathalie as she slips from living to the afterlife.
A version of how I imagine it in-game is also attached, just please excuse the rudimentary voice acting hehe.
Message from the artist
The lyrics will be in the images, and hopefully you all enjoy the song !! <3
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
In the song, Nathalie, the main protagonist of the song longs to be free of their white prison, and eventually they do get their freedom, one way or another.

Like Slaw mentioned, some vocal harmony during the chorus parts could've been a cool touch and if there were those, I felt that then having the harmony vocals slowly coming in one after each other in the bridge to lead up to the chorus might've been cool too.
Really love the vibe and everything, stellar stuff!
Oh wow, this one caught me off guard with how emotional it was. It felt so raw and honest, in large part thanks to the lyrics and vocals. Truly amazing work, I'm gonna be thinking about this one for a while.
It's always awesome to see someone make a song for the jam. The mixing was very solid, and I enjoyed the indie vibes. Not much I would really change here, maybe some vocal harmonies in the chorus? Also getting a chance to get the in-game lead-in was nice, too. Great work!
Super hip! Very indie folkish to me! I really enjoyed it!
A song and some actor skill ! It's definitely a challenge to write a song with lyrics in a jam and you did a nice job ! It reminds me of the credit song of the first Portal, even if this one has less jokes of course because of the subject. Original approach ! :)
Wow this is the first song I've heard in this jam with vocals! this was a particularly special listen, I really liked the story you put together along with the lyrics, i love the chorus especially. the instrumental is also very well done and fitting for this emotional song. i also like your idea of the in game version. amazing work!
amazingly done, incorporating songwriting into your project! it's a delight to have an actual song pop up in a soundtrack, as there's so much meaning you can also convey through written lyrics. i am enamored with your choice of vocal mixing, it's fascinating to have them not stand out too much from the rest of the mix. :3c
the genre you picked for this song works so well with the story you envisioned for your project, of course! amazingly done. i hope you continue to keep on songwriting with this under your belt. keep it up!
Thank you so much !! I'm glad you liked it <3 And thank you, I'm definitely gonna keep writing more songs in the future!
I thought the lyrics were mixed really well! If there was one part that felt off it was when you repeated better days twice. I thought it sounded strange. Maybe you could have it be softer and more in the background. As it is it just sounds weird to me.
The song is really nice though!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! And I appreciate the feedback <3
Ooh, very soft and melancholic... I love it when OSTs feature tracks with lyrics, your song really resonates with me!
I'm glad you liked it !!!
What a simple, pure track. For such an ostensibly bleak thematic, this song just warms your heart and gets you emotional. Of course the voice doesn't sound professional with the lack of lower mids, but it can lean in the lo-fi radio/telephone vibe, and leaves room for ingame dialog. Very beautiful, very endearing. I like the lyrics not being too direct, the rhetoric is colorful.
I short, I like it more than I should. You touched a fiber there.
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate the feedback <3
I usually listen to other JAM entries with a critical mindset, but this piece felt so natural that I forgot it was part of a JAM. I found myself simply enjoying it, not analyzing it—and that shows how truly wonderful it is. High praise from me.
THANK YOU !!!
This is so cool! I love it when people write songs for these jams, since it's (in my opinion) a much more challenging task, but if done well, the reward is huge. This song absolutely delivered, and I think you nailed down the atmosphere completely.
The lyrics are really nice, and you sing very well! I could imagine myself listening to this song in my free time (although it is very emotional), and I think that's a sign of a job well done!
Great job!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! <3
always a pleasant surprise for these submissions to include a vocal track! i love the earnest arrangement of the guitars and drums. and it's cool you included how this might present in-game, that's a great inclusion! good work.
Thank you so much! I honestly wanted to do a bit more when it came to the in-game version, but I figured setting the scene was enough, and maybe someone could imagine their own sequence of events. Thank you again!! <3
really beautiful submission, i found your inspiration from being sick really fitting to the theme
I'm really glad you liked it! <3
Very unique submission! Huge kudos for the full vocal theme. Hope you're feeling better now. Great idea to use the difficult period before the jam to inspire you, music rooted in those kinds of experiences always manages to hit a lot harder. Great work.
Thank you !! <3
You know... I love it when someone composes full-fledged songs! This particular song is very soulful, makes me cry...
Thank you so much for the incredible emotions! Now I need to look for a handkerchief
P.S. Rawr :>
I'm glad you liked it <3
