Description
I used my freshly made anglo saxon lyre. I've really been enjoying pushing the limits, where I'm plucking and muting strings with my left hand, as well as changing strings, and then also strumming with the right. I'm so proud of how this instrument turned out, and I also have absolutely fallen in love with playing it.
I have been utilizing my jaw harp, which I've really been enjoying layering twice and having one in each ear. It provides a wonderful drone effect.
Sounds/Instruments:
Sutton Hoo Lyre, self made
Jaw Harp
Vocals - me
Throat singing - me
Bass/Double bass - BBC Spitfire
Timpani - BBC Spitfire, pitched down

I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for listening! :)
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
I chose to go with a composition that fits both the picture and the title
I started out with a darker beginning, more held back and melancholy since the character is shaded in darkness, which gives way to breaking free.
Recently I was in my back yard improvising with my lyre, and a bald eagle soared overhead. It was a moment I was improvising to. I tried to recreate that feeling with the melody I had here. When I saw the theme, I pretty quickly knew what direction I wanted to go in.

this is so AWESOME — it's really cool to hear all these elements put together that you've recorded! the self-made lyre is so rad, too. that's some amazing dedication to the craft alright... :3c
the final result of this track is great! the individual parts are mixed well (though i'd want to hear the jaw harp even more imo), and the progression of the arrangement is well written. the vocal harmonies and layering are also well-done!
Amazing creativity!!! I love that you made your own instrument too, wow!!!
Really like the blend of normal singing over the throat singing, such a nice vibe to it!
When the jaw harps came in, my mind instantly starts feeling this as a spaghetti western song 😂
Cool stuff like always, i think you really nailed the production on this! Really has a nice wide stereo feel to it.
All the live elements give an absurd amount of personality and life to this song, it's heavenly. MASSIVE props for that throat singing, everything here is so so cool.
I love your proposition and your description/explanation. The fact that you played yourself this instrument, being creative with it, and the improvising aspect with the eagle matches with the theme freedom. Really nice, congratulations !
Might be the first (and possibly only?) submission to feature a self-made instrument. Major props for that, and it sounds fantastic.
I was not quite sure what to expect with this track going in, but I absolutely love the atmosphere created here. The strings are played well and sound good in the mix. Those subtle vocal harmonies and drones that began to creep in were wonderful, but then when they came in full-force I was blown away. Live instrumentation and live vocals, in a 48 hour jam? That's nuts, and super well executed. Those sections are obscenely unique and powerful sounding.
I'll have this submission on my mind for a while, I think. Possibly the most unique of the bunch in all honesty. Phenomenal work here - I would have loved to hear more in this style. Best of luck!
This was great I felt like it could either be in the next dune movie or even a "western but the main character goes to india" type of a movie lol.
I think that the rawness of the instrument and vocals serve really well to the sense of freedom Kale, it's actually a really interesting interpretation of the theme, a sort of freedom in being human - really interesting concept and a uniquely delicate composition. Nice!
Nice to hear someone using the real instrument!
Heh I used a lyre replicating an instrument from 500 AD so I don't think I'm getting out of "old world" vibe!
This is definitely my favourite from what I've listened so far.
Honestly, this is so amazing.
im so impressed with all of this live playing and singing and everything, even the way you came up with the idea for this song is so interesting!
Insanely good stuff here
It is always a treat to hear your submissions. They always feel unique and are packed with so much character and this is no exception.
Thanks for sharing this, and keep up the good work :)
Really great work. It gave me serious Witcher 3 vibes! Bravo!
So... Time for the main live musician of these jams! The great and unique Kale Overlord!
Here you can see the most wonderful, truly breathing melody that will surprise you, pass through you and leave a mark on your soul for many weeks... Nomadic magic!
To be honest, I'm a fan of your tracks. Just like I am a resident of Central Asia (Алға Қазақстан!) then I am very close to such motives, which I quite often hear in everyday life.Cool job!
P.S. Rawr
Awesome stuff.
I love that you mostly used live instruments, it added a lot of charm to the tracks. Your choice of instrumentation is great in general.
It's also cool that the music feels medieval and spaghetti western at the same time.
That instrument is literally ASKING to be named plank and given a face.
The jaw harp was a great way to add texture and more theming so good addition!
