Description
To make these songs, I imagined a game where a person who had been imprisoned experiences freedom after years. 'Free City' is a song that sounds medieval; I wanted to create something small and intimate, a diegetic piece of music that could be playing in a cheerful village. The second song, 'Final Victory,' is a grand string arrangement for a magnificent ending. The theme of freedom has always permeated my mind during the period I was creating them.
Both songs were conceived in the same session within Logic Pro. They share the same key and tempo, however, they are completely distinct in both style and intention, and this was intentional to better situate the different phases of my imaginary game.Of course, later I had to open another project so that I could mix them separately.

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The free city is about a man experiencing freedom after a long, long time.
Final Victory for me is about freedom without explanations, the music speaks for itself.

aye, the medieval vibes are strong with this one... nicely done!! i really love how grand and splendorous "Final Victory" is! i think even though the tracks seem rather distinct in genre and style, we only had 48 hours after all to try and quickly compose something for the jam.

i'd love to hear some other tracks from this videogame concept if you continue working on it after the jam! ^o^

Thank you very much for the kind words, as it was my first musical jam I ended up not taking full advantage of the capacity of the detailed description of my ideas in words, ahaha but the idea was for the songs to be very distinct from each other, the song Free City is really supposed to be a simple song that is being played by musicians in a medieval city where the character enters and the final victory would be the Grand Finnale in the end game.

48 hours is of course never enough time for anyone HAHA you did great regardless! i enjoy thinking about what tracks would go in between if we were able to expand and fully flesh out our projects

The free city one do be a vibe, enjoyed it a lot.

I liked this! i could hear what you were going for in each track, i loved the first track the most personally!

I also find the first track more catchy!

Great work!

Track 1-The free city: I really like the medieval feel to it, I think it fits the whole freedom theme you were going for. The switchup at 0:25 felt really interestion and at home within the track. The main melodic line of the flute was really catchy and fun, although I wish something more would have been added to it the last time it came around to spice things up.

Track 2-Final victory: I love the composition on this one! The way the choir complements the chord movements and how the brass gives the entire piece a grand feel. i also like how you didn't overuse the drums, but instead used them sparingly. My only note would be to maybe change the melodies up a little bit more, give them here and there some interesting rythm or harmony to keep them fresh and exciting!

Awesome tracks, great feel to both. I would love to hear more in this style

REALLY nice writing! Great melody/harmony interaction!

I Think on the second tune i would look at pulling back the background strings a little to let the important melodies shine through. You're also getting some distortion on that percussive hit stuff!

Great job!

Since I had little time due to my daily work, my ear ended up so tired that I didn't notice the effect of compression on the percussion. When I realized it, I couldn't work on it anymore, but I will create a "remaster"

Both of these sound great! They've got some tight mixes and they both perfectly capture the vibe they were going for. Final Victory reminds me a lot of the kind of theme you'd find scoring heroic war movies, probably because my dad forced me to watch a bunch as a kid haha. Very solid submission!

The Free City has some wonderfully quirky and folksy vibes. Orchestration throughout is on point - really nice mix of different instruments, with each of their voices  weaving nicely around one another. This has a nice rhythm to it throughout, one of those pieces that you want to listen to in more detail to really figure out all the layers at play.

Final Victory serves the title quite well - it has a regal, almost-heroic feeling to it. Once again the orchestration is great here, layered nicely and with just the right amount of motion to keep the strings feeling vibrant and emotive. The use of choir here is excellent - adds some unique texture to the movement. Resolves quite nicely at the end, too.

Great work - this is some solid orchestration and was a joy to listen to. Best of luck!

Really enjoyed 'Free City', I think the story created between the two different parts in the track work really well together. And after reading the description of that track I could see it fitting that perfectly!

Great work!

It's so airy, so cute, graceful and inspiring! Strings that don't just play - they breathe! They're singing!

Incredibly beautiful! respect

Thank you, you understood my intention, I really wanted to make a string-focused sound that was slowly moving more towards the harmonic side, which some people might find boring, but it was intentional not to have staccatos or too much percussion.

This is a very vibrant project and it really does feel like the setting fits for the theme and what your hypothetical game is going for!

Developer

Thank you!

when I was making the songs I thought about how good it would be to be free for the first time walking through a vibrant medieval city

There's some great harmonic development throughout The Free City. The strings in Final Victory sounded a tad muddy, some filtering/saturation could help there. Overall a pleasant listen!

Developer

I have learned a lot about Greek modes, the music was having a very simple development in the chords, but the moment came when I couldn't resist and I borrowed some notes outside the D major scale!

I need to know, what's that string library. Damn that was buttery smooth! Great job on the submission overall, I could definitely  see Final Victory used as the official sound for Olympic medalists!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

I used 03 different string libraries doubling the main harmony to try to make the sound more massive, they were Symphoni Essencials, Berlim Orchestral and Session Strings Pro 2. For the higher melodies and basses I used a library called Metropolis Ark, it has a very epic sound. I also used the choirs from it, but I don't know if the samples lost quality in the mix or if I overdid the compression!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks, that makes a ton of sense! Indeed the vocals have some weird quality about them, but it didn't really matter that much ultimately, specially with a jam this short! Great job and thanks for the info, I always forget stacking libraries is a thing lol

The second track sounds so peaceful with the strings, you nailed the feeling on that.

Developer

Thank you sir, appreciate !

Submitted(+1)

I Adore the style on the first song! It feels so fun and vibrant!

The second track felt a little more generic to me however. I think it could have benefited from a touch or two of some staccato notes to allow the long notes to feel slightly less repetitive.

Developer

Thank you!
I wanted to work more on the second track but there was a moment when I realized I would have to stop or I wouldn't have time to finish it!

Wow, something very fresh! I love the instruments chosen and the sound overall. The only weak spot here is the choir vst.

In some places in the first song (especially the beginning, then it gets better), I feel like the instruments clash together and more space should have been left for just one main melody. However, the combination of instruments and the overall idea is so good I can look past that.

The second song almost feels nostalgic to me, I can imagine hearing it in something like Civ IV. Very triumphant, very nice.

Developer

I will still make better versions, there was a moment when my ear started to betray me!
