Description
The soundtrack for "Imprisoned" follows a child who is trapped in the shadows, longing for the warmth of the sun. To break free, the child must gather the courage to acknowledge the darkness around them; only then will they be able to make the journey through darkness to light.
I decided to make the soundtrack sort of as one song that is broken into pieces. Each piece represents a different part of the character's journey. Motifs are re-used constantly throughout; I attempted to introduce them and then warp them with the tone of each area. I don't know if I got it 100% right, and there are some parts that are pretty nutty/experimental, but it was certainly a fun challenge!
This soundtrack was made using Reaper with Kontakt, Shreddage, Serum, Battery, and various other VSTs for mixing (mostly Ozone.)
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
The child in the picture is the main character, longing for freedom from their own personal darkness.

I really enjoyed how you paced your soundtrack, with how the individual track structures were paced and also with how the entire soundtrack is structured to connect and explore various tones. I like the experimental bits as well! I am pretty bad at identifying motifs sometimes, I can identify the piano one you've used in "Dreaming in Sun" with a different version in "Break through Reality", but I am curious to know where else you had the other motifs placed?
Overall, I think you've explored the theme incredibly well here and the soundtrack was an enjoyable journey! Nicely done!
Really nice work! Every tracks are connected to each other. It's make the stories you create full of flavor.
Oh, you also made a soundtrack for a game where the main character is a child? :D
Amazing work! A good combination of my favorite - magical sound, powerful rhythm, bass and... in general - all the coolest!
Break Through Reality - My favorite. It rocks!
P.S. Rawr
Great soundtrack, the composition is very original on this one !
It was very interesting to have the same composition evolve seamlessly through the different tracks, it makes the whole package feel very cohesive and I really liked the different motifs repeated throughout and the variety you brought along the way.
With the sort of retro instrumentation and noticeable prog influences with the Moog-type sound and the guitars, it reminds me a lot of the compositions of Tim Follin (like the Plok soundtrack especially) that share similar qualities with your album, so great job on that !
This was great! I really liked how it felt like each track kind of led into each other, i can really feel like the soundtrack is telling a story. I think my favorite was Break Through Reality with the electric guitar in the back, i thought that was a cool element to add! I also thought Dreaming of Sun and Rise and Shine were beautiful, they both sounded very related which i really like, as if the first one is dreaming of the escape and the last was the escape itself. Super cool stuff i really enjoyed listening :))
I enjoyed the more experimental stuff!! Cool contrast to the other tracks that follow more traditional composition structures
Really cool stuff, and a lot of work get done in just the 48 hours!
Really like the material, but like Micerama mentioned, the instruments feel a bit isolated.
I'm not sure what is making it feel like that, since you have a good amount of things going on at everytime (maybe just more reverb? not sure😅)
But still, good stuff!
I like the progressive rock vibe of the whole OST, it evolved quite a lot. My favorite is clearly Break Through Reality but that's subjective :) Cool sub !
the experimental nature of your five tracks was great! you were able to establish distinct atmospheres that worked cohesively with the plot you had for your videogame concept, so nicely done! ^-^ it's nice to remember that motifs don't need to be the exact same in multiple pieces; variations in melodic and rhythmic structure as necessary are perfectly fine!
i do love how the tracks literally lead to the next one in the soundtrack!! i think it'd be cool to push the experimentation and energy shifts even more, perhaps with volume dynamics or ornamentations on some instrument melodies; but otherwise, the shifting of your instrumental palette serves to control the current mood quite well.
1st of all : The guitars, drums and piano here sound FANTASTIC!
Creating and using motifs in such a short jam is very ambitious, but I think it payed off really well here! You can follow the story with just the music, which is really impressive.
Title theme : Sets the mood really well, and I like how the drums here become a motif too - very unique!
The Prison : Feels like a direct continuation of the Title track, and sets the mood perfectly. The teaser for the next track is great.
Dreaming of the Sun : Love the piano motif! Super bright, and really sells the idea of hoping to see the light - again, you can really hear the story through the music.
Break Through Reality : Another fantastic transition, and great use of motifs! The only complaint I have is that the strings in the beginning sound a bit too "cheap" compared to the rest of the instruments, which sound really professional.
Rise and Shine : So heroic! A perfect way to wrap up the OST. And obviously - more great use of motifs.
Great job!
Solid progressions and melodies throughout, especially liked that sine lead melody. Reusing the motifs gave it a great through line and the mood shift throughout kept the story engaging. Rise and Shine's semi-major key was a solid way to end the OST too. The instruments can feel a little isolated, so adding some textures or little melodic flourishes could help give the tracks some scenic livelihood. Just an idea though, great work!
Super cool take on progressive writing here. Hearing the Title Theme first and then going into a stripped back, almost-ambient at points The Prison was genuinely super clever. Shout-out sine-wave leads as well! Bass work in both of these is great, too. These first two tracks are such strong ones to kick off the album.
Dreaming of the Sun is gorgeous. Some really nice piano playing here; thoughtful chords, emotive progressions and some really nice articulation to cap it off. The supporting instruments and strings were very well done - especially the latter. Kudos on the layering and the dynamics - strings can get so unruly at times.
Break Through Reality is a welcome change of tone and pace. Loving the live guitar in this - just enough chug to drive the rhythm and keep the track moody. I feel like this track leans back into the structural vibe of The Prison once again for the first half. At times this reminds me of something Chris Christodoulou might have done with Risk of Rain, which is sick.
Finally, Rise and Shine is a lovely way to cap out the soundtrack. More evocative than the others, with some ballsy leads (shout-out those tasty pinch harmonics!) and a rather pensive-but-pushing-through kind of feel.
All in all, this was great - sublime execution on the theme, and as far as game soundtracks go you did a phenomenal job in keeping the entirety of the album cohesive; borrowing elements and progressions from tracks, keeping core melodies and transposing across instruments. Bravo - this is some super solid work! Best of luck. :)
Having 1 big song that evolves over time is really nice!
each section leads into the next making for an engaging listen!
It's nice, I really appreciate the use of motifs throughout the pieces
Really nice work dude! I really love the dreaming of the sun, reminds me a lot of Celete.
And break through reality goes HARD.
