Description
This soundtrack depicts a story of a rebellious teenager running away from home after a dispute with her parents. What sounds like a long-awaited adventure at first, becomes a wake up call to what life is like without the safety of her home.

For this jam, I've followed both the picture and text theme. I used FL Studio to produce everything. The three songs I've made all have different genres to them - this made it hard to tie together, but I think the story I created gives context to the track list that brings it together nicely. The first track starts off very chill and funky, leading into a Porter Robinson-inspired rock track, then finishing things off with a strings based piece.

The songs in the order provided below follow this story - "I'm Free!" pictures the beginning feelings of this girl who ran away from home; Cool, independent, untouchable. "Rebel" then explores the feelings of excitement and danger to the outside world, then leading into the final track "Take Me Back" showing the full realization the girl has of her choices after being exposed to the all the dangers of the outside world. This ultimately results in her apologetically returning back home, with a lesson learned.

Message from the artist
A couple of these songs are way out of my style and comfort zone, but I had a lot of fun making it! It's been a joy to be apart of these jams.

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I combined both the text and picture theme and imagined the picture as a scene where a girl is in the process of running away from home. So with this idea in mind I made these songs to depict her feelings throughout this adventure. Ex. Excited and rebellious at first, leading to feelings of fear and regret.

Amazing variety between all three of your submissions. The change in the vibes, instruments, and style really distinguished between the different levels of the story and made for a satisfying end with (my favorite) Take Me Back. Going out of your comfort zone definitely paid off ^^

Developer

Thank you so much :))

This was a really great soundtrack! The record scratching in I'm Free! was really good, and followed by the melodies in Rebel, that was really nice. The sombre tone in Take Me Back is really nice too, and really conveys that apologetic feel.

I do believe the first two songs do get a bit stale as they go on, but that didn't really stop me from enjoying them so it's not too much of a big deal. Great job!
Developer

Hey, thanks so much! Happy to hear you enjoyed each track. I can totally understand the stale criticism, definitely could have added some more variation for sure and probably would've if the jam was longer. I appreciate the listen and feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely loving the scratching in I'm Free! Something that hasn't really shown up too much in this jam. Solid drums in this, good use of bass staying in the pocket and also venturing out every now and again to provide some flair with the bends and slides. The gradual layering of other elements with the piano is well done also, keeping it from tiring out.

Rebel is really fun to listen to. Nice departure from the vibes of the last track. Guitar here does its job of holding down the rhythm and letting the drums do what they need to in order to give the track a pulse. The strings, as others have mentioned, really sell the theme here. Really nice articulations and complementary playing to the softer piano melodies. This track has a kind of no-care-in-the-world vibe, which really does lean into the theme even more.

Take Me Back steps in a bit of a different direction. Very strong orchestration here - layered beautifully and with just enough motion. Evocative is the key word for them in this, in my opinion. This piece is more sombre than the other two, unsurprisingly, but not depressingly so. A kind of quiet sadness with some hope as the track begins to round out.

These are all great, and very diverse. Kudos for keeping each track so distinct and unique. Production across all three is really solid, and they're mixed well to boot. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for this in depth feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed each track and its variety, and that you got what I was trying to convey in each one as well.  I appreciate the compliments on production and mixing (and everything else)! :D

one thing i really enjoyed about your submission was how you leveraged orchestral instrumentation in "Rebel" and "Take Me Back" — the strings in "Rebel" really carry that theme of freedom and exploration that you might expect from strings in typical soundtracks, and "Take Me Back" with the starting downward melody on the cello fits so well for the scenario you envisioned. i like the melodic content of the strings in "Take Me Back" also! ^o^

overall, a lovely job creating this soundtrack! you had a diverse selection of scenarios and moods that you wanted to craft, so i wasn't really put off by the variety in genre. i think the piano in "I'm Free!" helps attach it, if anything!

Developer(+1)

heyy thanks so much! I'm glad you see the vision with the strings :) i'm also happy you weren't put off by the variety, this definitely eases my main worry about the project haha. I appreciate the listen!! Been meaning to listen to your submission soon, can't wait!

Submitted(+1)

variety is always great — most important is if the context matches the soundtrack, imo! the Splatoon series incorporates a variety of vibes in both punk and electronic scenes and makes it work, for example :3

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you think so :)

Awesome stuff I like the musical ideas you have, they just seem to feel very disconnected to each other throughout all your tracks. overtime I start to lose the sense of how each idea relates to another. other than that these were fun to listen to

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, yes that is the biggest problem i had with the soundtrack was how ambitious the story idea i had was. The timeline is supposed to go from an exciting upbeat beginning to something a lot more sad and reflective toward the end of the story. so because of that it was difficult to blend the two smoothly in such a short amount of time. Sorry to hear that caused a disconnect for you, but I'm glad you enjoyed the tracks anyway! :)

Submitted(+1)

Nice work! I particularly enjoyed the last two tracks! Really beautiful writing, really beautiful vibes!

Thanks so much! :)

I was like: "There's scratching? 5 Stars!" And then you bring on THE JAM! It feels soooooo cool, you NAILED the careless, free and rebellious nature of a teen lol. It's like I can hear her say "Fk the world" while walking head low listening to some 90's NuMetal on her walkman. "Rebel" I can literally see in front of me like slice of life pictures of her experiencing things. The only thing missing maybe from the description would be more the danger part, but it's a nitpick. "Take Me Back" is really beautiful and reflective. There's a longing to it almost, it's really amazing work! And the last part could be like her being at the front door and opening the door.

That's it I guess, your tracks really put vivid images on my brain and I think that's the big thing for me. Amazing job!

Also I stumbled automatically on Giratina after the OST... BRO xDDD

Also don't recall hearing your OST 7 submission, "How I Miss You" .... GOD that was beautiful, you're so talented I'm envious lol

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!!! you pictured exactly what I was trying to convey, I'm glad! I was hoping to add something that implies a little more danger in between the high energy song and the reflective, sad song but no time :(

I'm glad you enjoyed each track despite how different each of them are.

OH NO you found Giratina... it autoplayed after for me too I was wondering if that would happen to other people LOL i guess its a little easter egg

And thanks for the kind words on my previous submission! I remember hearing yours a while back and Ioved your submission as well, you are super talented!!!

Submitted(+1)

I think you did a great job making your tracks tell the story you wanted them to. Take Me Back was especially nice. I would consider letting the drums go crazier in the final parts of Rebel--open hats, more fills, etc. Could make it even more energetic. Nice work!

Developer

Thank you! that's a good idea, i definitely should have added some more to the final bit. Rebel was the final track I made of the 3 so time was sadly almost up when i finished. would've loved to add what you suggested or even extend the song further. I appreciate the listen and feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Really appreciate the tonal range here, each track has a great vibe that they nail.

I'm Free had me bopping my head immediately lol, love the groove! Reminded me a lot of stuff in Jet Set Radio and Zenless Zone Zero, just gotta throw a sax solo in there and it'll fit right on one of those playlists.

Rebel had a great lead guitar melody, and the chords on those strings in Take Me Back were chef's kiss. I do feel like both instruments could have used a touch of volume automation just to make them feel more human, but that's really minor stuff. Overall great work! :)

Developer

Heyy thank you!! Funny enough i actually was trying to add a saxophone but I couldn't find any plugins I like for one. Let me know if you have one in mind!

Thanks for the feedback on making things sound more realistic, I agree I could've done better. I think with that I had some trouble balancing it if velocity or volume and it would just get drowned out by the other instruments.

I appreciate the listen and comment :)

I really loved the tracks on this one, Amazing work

"what you what you what zuzuza you..."

I'm Free! - GOD! This is a great “sing-along” chant from the vinyl..... Cool! (what you what you what you what zuzuza you)

Rebel - Guitars! Now the guitars are singing! (and I also think there are crows cawing in the noise in the background, heh). There's also a violin! Cool!

Take Me Back - Nice way to end the tracklisting! Sad melody... (How do you make such “complete” mixes? HOW?)

P.S. I also think you made your cover art out of 4 different nature photos and.... one bird :>

P.S.S. what you what you what you what zuzuza you

P.S.S.S. Rawr!

Developer

LOL i love the what you what you what you what zuzuza you... i cant unhear it now

thank you comment! I'm glad you liked every track and my mixing haha, i think i just end up with the product i do through my practice and just listening to the project over and over and over again... i appreciate the compliment!!

And for the cover art yeah i did! just tried to make something the best i could with royalty free stuff. sadly not too artistic visually

Thank you again for listening! excited to hear yours soon :)

Great tracks, very complementary to each other ! The way each of them matches the story elements you provide is well thought and well led. It would be an awesome OST !

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words!

Submitted(+1)

Great variety, especially loved the latter two pieces! The story was very nicely conveyed through the different tracks.

Developer(+1)

Thank you :) im glad you enjoyed the variety!

The second one is also my favourite ahah, it really captures this youth rebel tone you were looking for, very catchy.
I'm a bit less convinced by the first one even if I enjoy the funky groove aspect of it, but the loops are a bit repetitive (the scratch mostly maybe). The third one is very different, I love the melody though but maybe a bit too different. It's cool that you took some risks and that you explored unusual genres :) well done !

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback, i agree the first track is a bit repetitive, i think the vision was just a simple looping track for like a main menu or something, but looking back on it maybe i could've expanded on the idea a bit more.

I totally understand the criticism of the third track being so different, and that was my main worry when making it. The problem is that contextually story-wise, the first two are a lot closer together earlier on while the third ones possibly much farther in the story, so the big leap in genre and emotion is a bit strange.

If there was more time I would have liked to flesh out the story to create a smooth transition from those upbeat songs to something heavier and emotional.

Thanks so much for listening :)

Purple DAW gang!

I'd probably have swapped the titles of 1 and 2, so it's interesting you kept it this way.

The first tune is soo groovy and the second just filled me with pure joy! While the third paired with the story grounded me and made it feel relateable.

This is a really lovely submission, great job!

Developer

Hey thanks for the feedback! Honestly I never even thought of swapping the two titles you mentioned, realizing now that it does make more sense that way LOL. glad you enjoyed my submission, i appreciate the listen!

nearly started floating out of my chair listening to that third song!
I think this OST would work amazingly in the game described

Developer(+2)

LOL thank you so much!! ill aim to bring full levitation next time

Submitted(+1)

First one I'm rating and it's already an impressive combination of genres with high production quality. I especially liked the second track.

Developer

Thanks so much!! Rebel is my favorite too :))

Submitted(+1)

I thought the first 2 tracks fit very cohesively together! Maybe the 3rd one was a little too different but not that big a deal.

I'm Free felt very much like a menu song and Rebel felt very much like a stage theme. Excellently done!

Take Me Back felt much more generic compared to the other 2 so it was the weakest one to me but it wasn't bad.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I completely agree with you, the third piece was a lot different and not super unique compared to the previous two. I had a story in mind to tie it all together but the idea might've been a bit ambitious for 48 hours lol. I appreciate you listening!

Submitted(+1)

This one sounds the most as it could have been put in a real game, the tracks all contrast and varied which is nice.

Developer

Hey thanks so much! :) Was worried the tracks would contrast too much from each other, but I'm happy you recieved it well.
