REally cool educational game, was a peasure to learn :)
This is one of my favorite entries. Nuclear reactors are the real "controlled chaos". I love the way you executed this idea, your examples and descriptions were easy to follow and pleasant to watch. Love the DOS vibe too! I just did a rewatch of Chernobyl last month and this helped me understand what happened even more. Super cool, thank you!
great entry an a cool take on the jam's topic, an interactive explanation of a nuclear reactor is a great idea of a controlled chaos. thanks for it.
nice, I would have liked the explanations to be more interactive though. E.g. actually move the control rods to speed up/slow down the reaction.
That was a fun way to learn more about nuclear reactors. Great work!
This was really neat. I could see it being used in a classroom. Really nice work!
I've seen the youtube videos you mentioned so it was really cool to see the visualizations implemented and get to play around with them. I do wish there was a bit more to the gameplay, but it's super cool nonetheless. Great to see you in another jam Pete! Great work!
I do wish I actually knew more about nuclear physics and reactor design though. Its weird making an ostensibly educational game about a subject I really know very little about... Thanks regardless, though!
Great job with implementation and visualizations.
I love simulators like this! I think it's a bit lacking in the gameplay department, right now it's just about turning dials and seeing what they do. Maybe there could have been scenarios and endless play where you need to meet constantly changing power demand as quickly as possible, putting what you've learned into use?
Yup, I spent the three days getting all the mechanics from the videos in, then looked at it and realized I had no idea how to turn it into a game. I didn't want to break with realism and make up gamified reactor designs, so I decided to just call it a simulator :]
At one point I was planning to have a custom scenario builder and scenarios to recreate the various historical disasters, but then my motivation dried up suddenly and I had to push myself to even put in some UI...
This is a SUPER cool entry. Also, as with the pdil, Q didn't work for me.
Nice entry! I doubt I’ll retain much long term but I definitely have learned a few things. I liked the explanations and interactive examples but I think some of them probably could have been combined. Also, Q doesn’t appear to work (but maybe I just missed something). This really makes me want to experiment with particles and flow fields.
Ah, as it happens there are no sims where there is a controllable rod group 1 after all - I'd realized kind of late into things that the RBMK moderator "rods" represent the fuel rod graphite casing and thus can't move independently.
