  • That's some serious amount of work you did in 36h to get this game done. And the result is really amazing. I really like the attack animations! The walking and attacking also feels very smooth. The range attacks can be tricky to handle, but that is good. Quite a challenge! Therefore I would have liked more gold early to upgrade. Im not quite sure how well the game fits to the theme, because it is a large arena.

i can't express enough how fun it is to abuse the heavy attack. i just wished if i could maybe use the shop earlier and the progression of the game was more linear. other than that well done!

Developer

thanks so much! I totally agree with you, progression is wonky in this game as it was sort of thrown together last minute, really glad you had fun and I hope you do well in the jam!

I think this is a good dimension for this game jam. I guess it was the right decision to make the animations with less frames, since i know this always take so much more time than expected.

Besides that i think the game is pretty good "executed" ( '-')

Developer(+1)

Thanks! AAA_3XA is the artist so thats all praise for him, he did a great job. Thanks for the kind words, and I had a chuckle at your pun. Your game was great by the way, hope to see you in next months jam!

Jea, I hope we will see some more graphics from AAA_3XA too.

For programming: the most things are pretty well done and since it runs in the browser without lag I guess it's also pretty efficient.

What you can try is a bit more randomness by letting the enemies spawn not only left and right, but a bit more in the back- and foreground by adjusting scale by y-coordinate so they appear smaller "the higher"/"in the background" they spawn.

But as I said, I think you are on a good way and we will definitely meet again. Next time without me forgetting to submit xD

Awesome! Reminds me of games I'd play on Stickpage back in the day. Definitely the kinda game I'd get my neighborhood buddies in on so we could start figuring out strategies... and maybe finding glitches (didn't find any this time, though!). This would have kept us busy for a few days at a time, and we'd come back to it every few months or so as well.

Animations are fantastic (and also very Stickpage-y, aside from them not actually being stick figures)! Sounds and music are tasteful as well!

Developer

Thanks! That kind of gameplay style was something we strived towards, I spent way too much time in school on the same games and felt like I just had to recreate that feeling. The art is all on AAA_3XA, he’s been great to work with and always delivers, appreciate the kind words!

Oh boy, this is a fun one. Well, firstly with the things I wish the game had.

And now to the positives

  • I love the aesthetic of the player character and the enemies
  • I love the way you implemented enemy scaling, kudos to that
  • I love the way the combo mechanic encouraged maxing out the numbers, basically, makes it a lot more fun to plan your next moves
Developer(+1)

Thanks for all the kind words! And thanks for the recommendation on the leaderboard, it’s been something I’ve wanted to integrate into my games, but always felt a bit too daunting to do, but that project makes it look super simple. Hope you had fun with our game, and thanks again for the support!

Jam Judge

It is super simple! I have implemented it into 3-4 game jam projects and by now I am able to get the implementation done in 20 minutes, its super fast and easy!

The combo multiplier made for some unique strategies, was fun maxing out the stats. The characters give that feeling of flipbook animations.

Developer(+1)

thanks! Combos were a big part of the design, I’m glad they’re not going under-appreciated, best of luck in the jam!

Good experience ! Well done

thanks! Glad you had fun with the game, wishing you the best in the jam results!

Good game! I think a bit more juice on the combat could add a lot: a bit of camera shake or a particle effect could go a long way!

Developer

Thanks! Definitely agree, I wanted to add the ability to launch enemies into the air after they died and add some camera shake when they hit the ground, but unfortunately didn’t have time, same with the particles so I’m with you there. Might add that in after the jam, best of luck in your own submission!

Great entry, I think the UI leaves a lot to be desired. I think the concept can be expanded upon and create a cool game, especially with this unique and certainly cool animation and art style.

PS: One little tip of mine would be to change the sizes of certain UI elements, as they are currently pretty randomly scaled. It usually looks more harmonious if the game has some sort of system why some fonts sizes are used when they are.

Developer

really appreciate the criticism, the ui is definitely a weak point to the game, even just the background to the shop is pretty bad. I’ll keep your suggestions in mind for the next game I work on. Thanks again!
