I killed all the humans! Once I realized you had to drag the paw icon to path your selected animals it clicked. It feels like it would work really well on a touch screen! The critter ai worked well for me and I liked the cute art. I loved when they’d get a human red and my horde of little animals would chase them across the map. Usually it ended up poorly, but it was still fun to play with 😆
I think I needed more animals in the end, I was able to destroy all the cabins but the lvl7 guys took my nice organized cloud of animals and turned them into a panicking hive of fleeing red critters. Nice work on this game!
I had fun with this one!
It could have used a bit more direction though - even with the basic controls mentioned in the description, there were some key mechanics that just weren't easy to pick up on. Once I figured out what the actual goal was (destroying cabins), how to equip/drop weapons, and how to heal units, I had a lot more fun! I did finish the game, and it was a pretty solid experience most of the time, though it kind of felt like the enemies were a bit over-tuned towards the end. Since the AI doesn't really let your animals die much, the end just amounted to attacking, healing, attacking, and healing until the cabin was destroyed - it didn't have the same punch as the earlier part of the game.
That said, still a solid experience!

It looks like I did not figure out the gameplay here since it appears other people have “figured it out” but I didn’t.
For a jam game this is fun, but I don’t think this selection mechanism would actually make a great game people would play for a long time because it is just too unwieldy and bakes frustration into the core loop of the game
After I figured this game out, it was actually quite fun! I would update your game page to let people know how it works. As far as I can figure, you collect apples and return them to a fire to make eggs which “hatch” into animals that you can then direct to attack the cabins.
I almost had all the cabins destroyed but the bugs in navigation kicked into high gear and it seemed the animals wouldn’t obey my commands.
So, the basics here are pretty good! I would ditch the limited line draw idea and the lasso idea and go with a traditional click-drag-rectangle selection mechanic. And maybe not have a limit to the number of units that can be selected (though I admit this is something some RTS games do - but don’t think it’s needed here).
Add some sounds and maybe some way to get upgraded and/or different units, and you got a GAME!
BTW, this is another one where I would want to play a fully fleshed out version of.
Anyway, please check out our game and let us know what you think! Thanks!
I had a blast playing the game, and I wanted more. The controls are a bit wonky, and the AI pathing is a bit off, but overall, it's a great game. GREAT JOB!
Good job matching the theme!
I have lots of thoughts playing the game:
- It was hard to understand how the lasso mechanic worked, I'm so used to dragging a rectangle to select in RTS games and colony sims. But once I got it, it was pretty neat! Wished that it would autocomplete the lasso for me better without having to fully encircle it (like the lasso tool in Photoshop).
- It was quite fun to see a low level enemy with a lot of nice loot, and then see my guys stacking up with all this gear once I've defeated him. Maybe there is space for even more feedback when that happens, because it felt like the most fun part of the game.
- Some more context and "story" to wrap it all together would be nice. I didn't really feel like I could come up with a many goals that I wanted to achieve, other than kill someone to get loot for my guys. And once I had a bunch of gear, I felt a bit aimless.
Well done! Always fun to play strategy-like games with small people in them :)
