The Gun is Not Good. False advertisement, scam, refunded, etc.

Jokes aside - very polished. Some mechanics surprised me, like being able to dig. Shield gun is curious, it started growing on me mid-playthrough (not enough to start using it more though). Lazer, my beloved.

UI is great, combat is great. Nuclear Throne meets Crimsonland? Good stuff. I don't know what else to say, it's very polished.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the stream, it was fun!

Quite a complete game honestly. I don't have any major nitpicks or anything, it played nice and looked nice. Playing around with the weapons was the most fun part for me.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing.

very fun and juicy game. boomstick supremacy ftw

it was hard to aim with the controller due to what felt like too much sensitivity in the aim stick. i couldn't find a means to lower aim sensitivity so i switched to kb+m which felt much better. in the stage with the overhead enemy, i couldn't proceed. i could see the enemy's shadow overhead and see the projectiles it shot at me, but i couldn't see the enemy itself, am i supposed to? after clearing all the ground mobs, the level didn't complete. what am i doing wrong?

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

I really underestimated the amount of people that want to play with a gamepad, I'm very much a KB&M player myself and I think it shines through. But I really want to improve the gamepad support so its something I will work on.

It's the craters map right? There's a static artillery enemy on the opposite side from where you spawn and the shadows are from its projectiles. There's a radar on the top right but I'll admit that it's not that easy to make out single enemies on it, it wasn't really the point of it. I've been thinking about adding some markers when there's just a few enemies left so its obvious where they are, the functionality is already in the game actually.

Man, this game has been going to places while I wasn't looking, good job. I could say I didn't understand pretty much anything except I have to shoot monsters, but the very roguelike nature of the game is "fuck around and find out", so it is a feature not a flaw.

I've played 4 levels and died until I realized that there were pickups on the levels I've been ignoring, guns I could have taken, and upgrades I could do between levels. The gun is that good that I ignored all other aspects. Though somehow I began to do worse once I figured out I can have more than two guns, go figure I guess.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Yeah that's pretty much the idea, the core of the game is very simple. Run and shoot. I have been a bit surprised by how common it is for players to ignore pickups and leveling up though so it's something I will work on.

great stuff

made it up to the plains three times, but the homing projectiles get me every time. i hate wizards

the new stuff is nice. some effects (slowing/burning) feel too impactful on the player. walking on dead burning enemies drops by HP by 50, and the slowing lasts for a solid 10 seconds if not more, both of which are run-enders.

there was a survive for 60 seconds challenge map, it was the most fun level. was quickly surrounded but managed to teleport to safety and reap the rewards.

some nitpicks:

gun crafting offered me explosion radius on multiple weapons that had no explosion component, thus the crafting option was greyed out, leaving me only with one selectable option. sucks to be offered a mod i can't use.

crafting multiple of the same component on a gun (in my case Crafted Ice Damage 1 ) doesn't turn it into Crafted ice 2, but two copies of crafted ice 1. i expected to get an upgrade instead of two copies of 1.

in the main menu, when in the options screen, i can still interact with the main menu buttons (in my case Quit Game)

otherwise great stuff. fit for release, i'd say.

keep it up

Developer

Thanks man!

Their homing projectiles are a bit easier to dodge than previous versions, but you still need to actively dodge them. If you keep running straight they will most likely hit. As with pretty much everything it's still something to be tweaked of course.

Effects definitely need tuning. The duration/magnitude is based on the effect strength too, so walking on small fires won't hurt you much for example.

I love nitpicks! Well you can always swap between guns when crafting so hopefully at least one you are carrying can use it. Also this version added rerolling effects for crafting too, so you can pay some runes to get new effects. Everything that rerolls things should never give you the same things that you had when pressing the button. But it quickly gets expensive.

I haven't really decided how I want to handle that yet, either do Crafted Mod I x2 or upgrading it like you said. But a change is needed.

Will fix.

Thanks a lot. Release is still far away I think, my deving is very erratic and its planned to have 3 acts. 2nd about as big as the first one but the 3rd will be small.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Also, you can use shields and other cover to block their projectiles. Although it might be a bit too mean right now as the AoE goes through shields if you're close...

And for the effects there is also meant to be ways to counteract them (right now there is just one way, a power upgrade for Logan when he uses his special). I agree its not fun to helplessly watch your character burn to death. There are more effects that make you take more damage and deal less but currently no way of telling that's what is happening so it also needs fixing.

End of ramble.

for the effects, i did find an upgrade that read "phase removes elemental effect", which i assume that was the answer. i collected it but died to a wizard projectile

i still had lots of fun, there are more nitpicks than anything

Developer(+1)

Oh yeah I even forgot about that one. I appreciate the nitpicks.

nice game with a good variety of fun weapons. I like the big explosions.

I would really like it if the text was like 10x bigger. The rest of the game is a little hard to read with all the small moving parts but tolerable given the scale of the action.

There is an ammo system but I don't know if I ever ran out, the clip size and reload speed seem to be limiting enough.

The shield gun felt super underwhelming and didn't play with it much.
Developer

Thanks for playing! The video was great, I noticed a few bugs that don't happen on my computer just from watching it.

The thought behind the text is that its stuff that you shouldn't need to read while in combat, so it tries to not be in the way. But I might have over done it, I'll look into it.

You were very close to running out a few times and completely ran out once. But it's something I am tweaking constantly to get right but still feel fair, it matters a bit more towards the latter half I'd say.

The shield gun is mostly a backup and utility gun, it recharges it's ammo and the alt-fire can protect from projectiles and you can use it to dig through walls if you get cornered.

Thanks!

The game is good. I expected it to just be a VS-like at first, but it's a solid roguelike with a surprisingly large variety of options that performs amazingly well despite the large numbers. Made it about halfway before I accidentally killed myself with fire.

It's also interesting how the map is able to hide secrets, like how the shop had a gun far off into the corner of the map.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!

That gun might have been a bug actually... Can you gauge about how far away you were, say hundreds of wallsizes away or thousands?

Submitted

I don't have a screenshot for it, but I think it was about 1-1.5x the length of the initial shop area away? I expected there to be some secrets in the shop area though, so I hope it doesn't get fully removed.

Developer(+1)

Okay thanks a lot, I'll keep it in mind!

Still a really good game. Glad you're still working on it. The new content is really well done, especially graphically.

I started doing worse, then got Arc Beam which I thought was OP, then got Weather Vane which didn't seem to do much except give me infinite lightning against boulders because they had such high HP, then Arc Beam got outscaled by flat damage and penetration, then Arc Beam Weather Vane on the boss drained his health really quickly. It was fun.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much.

Always great to get some balance feedback. Yeah the vane is a very specific item, I'm looking to add more similar items that can be strong if for specific builds and situations. I figured some of the lightning/arc stuff would be OP but a lot of the new elemental effects stuff needs number tweaking. Meteors won't take much lightning damage but has low arc resist and if you get it to arc back to you the vane will amplify the effect instead of lowering as it usually does.

But yeah, needs tweaking. Thanks.

Fantastic as always.  I still haven't beaten it, but I always have fun along the way.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Still trying to strike a good difficulty balance, but it's meant to be hard.

This shit is very fun. Got 80% of the way through then got clapped, will probably come back and do another run soon.

  • Making a shield of orbiting bullets inbetween volleys was nice
  • The feedback is pretty punchy on most weapons
  • i always appreciate a game where you mow down hordes of enemies like this
  • nitpick, but if weapons are going to be selectable with the DPAD i appreciate having the weapon selection be shaped like the DPAD so i dont have to do mental gymnastics with my retard brain to remember which weapon is what button
  • there was one stage with tiny pink enemies which would pop out of mortar shots on a pinkish background where i lost half my health before i realized there were enemies surrounding me

I played on a PS5 controller and my controller was constantly rumbling at max strength so i had to turn rumble off.

Nice stuff, keep up the good work

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

I'm not much of a gamepad user myself so this is great stuff. I've been meaning to overhaul some of the gamepad stuff but haven't got around to it. Will fix that bug. Thanks.

(1 edit)

it's just good stuff man, nothing much more to be said about it

riddle me this: how do you have so many enemies with the game still being very performant?

Developer

Thanks for playing!

It's Unity using their DOTS/ECS but with my own multithreaded collision and physics system.

Developer

Rebalanced, refactored, new content. Didn't have that much time to do testing myself so there could be some problems. Please let know me know if you run into anything, and any other thoughts you might have.
