I have the Damascus Steel but am a bit lost as to what to do next. I have the timer too, and I've tried to turn it in every room in every time period. I've enjoyed what I've seen, but playing off and on, I lose track of things and maybe haven't paid as much attention as I should have, to what items I haven't used, etc.

Any suggestions?

Developer(+1)

The timer isn't used. The Damascus steel is a component required to fix the temporal relocator. Take it back and insert it into the slot.

Thanks, got through the game and enjoyed it! For whatever reason I didn't think I could put more than 1 item in the slot.

Developer(+1)

Glad you got there!

I never considered the slot being single use. I kinda figured the menu giving new options and listing all its faults that needed fixing would be the giveaway.

Was already considering an expanded v2 with more location to visit.

Yeah, I think I may've had a bit of a brain fade since I'd already used the slot to get the machine started and then open up Syria. I wound up playing during several different sessions and I thought "Okay, the game is being nice and having you use everything once." Or maybe I was thinking more on the lines of "put USB port A in slot B." I guess I never considered the slot could be like a mail slot.

So after I took a break, came back and got the Damascus Steel, I went through the process of elimination of what still needed use, and I crossed the slot off. Leaving me with ... nothing! Oops.

I've rescued Andy and he's gone back to his wife. The other characters in the hackspace have congratulated me for rescuing Andy, but the game doesn't end. What now? How do I get it to end?

Developer (1 edit)

Is he still in the hackspace?

If he is, have you spoken to Andy since rescuing him?

He maybe can't leave and go home.

HostSubmitted

I kept a transcript. When we got back, I talked to Andy and he rushed off in the direction of the Hackspace exit. I then checked every location and he was nowhere to be found. I talked to Julie, Stephan and Carl and they all congratulated me on finding Andy, but that's it. (I also checked the other time periods, but no sign of Andy.)

Developer (1 edit)

Oh that's interesting,, he's definitely not at the hackspace exit? There are only two possible options  coded, he's returned to the storage room, talks to you and then either leaves the game forcing a win game subroutine or he's at the main entrance  waiting to leave, when he can, triggers the win game routine.

How very curious. I'll check the code today and see if there's a condition I've missed and fix it asap.

HostSubmitted

After talking to him, I did: I, STATS, W, W, W, W and he wasn't there. Would you like me to send my transcripts?

Developer

I'm just playing through it now to see if i can trap the issue. There are only 2 scenarios so let me finish this and then I'll let you know if i need the transcript - thanks.

Developer(+1)

Thanks Garry - Found a pesky unnecessary 'redescribe' in the endgame subroutine that needed removing. All sorted now!

I'm confused. I think I've downloaded this three times due to suggestions of updates on the game page or developer's log, but it's always the same file size and always version 1.0.0, yet the files are different. Has this been updated or not? Can you please update the version number every time you publish an update?
Developer

Noted and apologies. The update was so minor that you didn't need to redownload. It made no difference to solving the game.

HostSubmitted

If you do an update, any update, no matter how minor, update the version number. This aids historians/biblographers and players. For example, if I'm look for a game on IFDB, IF Archive or IFWiki and it says the latest version is version 1.0.0 and I've already got version 1.0.0, then I'm not to know that theres' a different version 1.0.0. Use semantic versioning: a.b.c, where a is a major release, b is a minor release and c is a bug fix. So, in your case, it should have been 1.0.1.

You are lucky that Adventuron allows, even promotes, semantic versioning, whereas the stupid Z-code file format only allows a single release number and the serial number is the date in yymmdd format.

Took me a while to fix the circuit board too, had to read and examine the magazine to find the components needed to repair it.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, now wondering if I need to add a better hint / examine item dialogue in there somewhere.

Anybody got any hints for this one? I have collected a whole load of tools and components but none of them seem to work with each other. I’m guessing I need to repair the circuit board but I don’t know where to start.

In particular, does anyone know how to get the soldering iron working? The only fuel I’ve found is the butane cylinder and that doesn’t seem to do anything.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Have you examined the iron? Does it need 'FILL' ing from the Butane?

Examine the circuit board in the electronics workshop - there's a magnifying lamp there.

Examine everything, you sometimes get additional commands to try...

Thanks, I’ll give that a go!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

That's probably the hardest puzzle, once you've repaired the circuit board, you can start to time travel!

If you cant figure it out, I'm happy to list all the items you need to be carrying and which room to do it in.
