Neat little shooter with adorable visuals !

I like the magic charging mechanic where you have to eat butterflies and use your frog ton,gue to catch them, but the hitbox for it is a bit small and makes it a bit hard to catch some. On the other hand when i managed to get a few i liked that they doubled as shot powerups as well.

Music is pretty chill and fits the mage character quite well.

Cool entry, well done :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! We actually increased the tongue hitbox during development, it was even worse before hahah! But we probably should’ve increased it even more, seeing how some people had issues or were a bit frustrated when trying to tongue critters ^^’

Submitted(+1)

Haha welp that’s gamedev in a nutshell XD tough it’s understandable that you can’t calibrate everything to a T during a jam so no worries XD

Submitted(+1)

The art in this game is absolutely adorable!
Insect swallowing mechanic seems pretty deep - it lends itself easily to several unique playstyles and provides a degree of risk/reward scenarios. I really liked how when you bust a hornet hive, if you time your tongue just right, you can swallow a whole bunch of them at the same time! Feels very rewarding when you pull it off.
Thank you for making the game!

Developer(+1)

Aww no, thank YOU for playing!! I’m glad you liked the intricacies of the eating mechanic, we tried our best although I’m afraid we didn’t really have time to fully flesh it out as much as we’d have liked ^^’

The beehives were indeed intended to be used like that, glad you enjoyed it!

I think the idea behind the core mechanic is unique and the aesthetic is INCREDIBLY charming and well produced, especially for the deadline-- However it does suffer a bit from clarity issues (I kinda struggled figuring out what I could eat and what I couldn't); the biggest issue with the game is just how much health enemies have... Even with a powered up shot things like flowers and beehives take forever to kill and even the "weakest" enemy (the dragonfly at the start) requires multiple shots; it leaves you feeling weak and helpless which dampens how satisfying the game feels. I also in general think some of the patterns would've benefited from the critters not doing damage (like their introduction where you have to kill the flowers or run straight into the wall of butterflies); but with some tweaks to the numbers this could really be something special. Also, this really could've used some score. Sick stuff either way though! Seriously well-produced.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! And I’m glad you enjoyed the vibe we tried to create with the game ^^!

Honestly, I was already prepared for you to critique the enemies having too much health, since I’ve seen you (rightfully) leave that same criticism on other games, LOL!!

I agree with pretty much everything, I just wish we had more time to properly design the stage and balance things 😭

As for the score, I really wanted to add it but we sadly had no time to come up with a scoring system. Even then, I wanted to at least include some stats at the end for boasting / competitive purposes, but there was not time for that either, so RIP.

LOL Sorry if I've come off as intimidating in comments 😭 I just try to bring attention to the "little details" and how they can make a huge difference, even something as simple as lowering or increasing a number by a little. And yeah, don't worry, I can relate to being super tight on time by the end. You managed to make something impressive in spite of all that!

Very cute game, I really like the Artstyle and sounds. Unfortunately it is very awkward to play with a qwertz keyboard ;-;

But from what i played the game was pretty fun :3

Developer

Noooooo sorry for that! :(

Next time we’ll make sure to add customizable controls, or at least alternate control schemes for non-QWERTY keyboards.

Thanks a lot for playing!

I really like the concept! Unfortunately, the tongue mechanic seemed buggy and only worked half the time for me...even on the windows version. Otherwise, it's a really cool idea and I'm excited to see where it goes from here! Good wok :D

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!!

That’s very weird, we haven’t seen anybody else have issues with the tongue mechanic. Perhaps you were trying to tongue bullets that were not tongable? You can only tongue insects (namely butterflies, bees and fireflies). The rest of the projectiles cannot be tongued, sorry if that wasn’t very clear!

Submitted

No problem! I was trying to tongue the dragonfly things at the very start. Not sure if those are tongueable or not LOL.

Edit: Sound and graphics give a superb atmosphere and really pulls you in.

I think the ability to absorb should be with a range (could be a circle area).

I think with a small mask for hitbox but a big radius to absorb positive elements, it would be fulfilling to play?

Basic ennemies are really bulletspongy at the moment, they should be popcorn at the beginning?

Keep it up, the presentation and sound is very polished <3

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your kind words and for your feedback!

You’re completely right that the enemies are too bulletspongy at the start. We tried to compel players to powerup through eating and use the spit, but we overcompensated and made some enemies too strong ^^’

As for the absorption area, we considered a similar idea, but we didn’t want the mechanic to be too OP, so we played it safe and decided to only allow eating projectiles with the tip of the tongue. We were hoping learning to aim the tongue would also be part of the fun!

I like frogs :) anyway took me a while to figure out what’s edible and what’s not lmao. I like the game and the idea!

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks for your feedback!! We tried communicating the things that you can eat in the title screen like this:

image.png

But we’ve had quite a lot of players confused about what can be eaten, so I think we clearly missed the mark there ^^’

Submitted(+1)

It was pretty tough, but I managed to complete it! Great presentation all around. I like the strategy involved in how you manage the amount of critters you eat throughout the game.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks a lot!! And congrats for beating it! We’re glad you enjoyed the strategy element, we didn’t have a lot of time to balance it well but we tried our best ^^’

Soo Cute and cery fun game.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

very cute and fun game, loved the sound and art, but the theme feels very loose.

Developer

Thanks a lot! That’s fair, we struggled a lot to come up with ideas for the theme, in the end we just settled on something even if we were not fully convinced because it was blocking our development progress ^^’

Developer

Also, congrats for #3 in Theme and Visuals!!!

Love the artstyle on this one, very original. is there an unstable element to it?

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The unstable element is related to the shot and stomach mechanics. The more bugs you eat, the more unstable the shot becomes (more chaotic and spread out). If you eat too much, the magic instability is too much for Roberto to handle and he spits all the bugs. The idea was that you try to maintain a certain ideal level of magic instability; too little and the shot is weak, too much and the shot is too chaotic.

Submitted(+1)

Perfect! I love that. I guess I just wasn't very good at the game! God i need to get better at bullet hells!

Developer

Hahah, no worries, we tried balancing it at the last minute but in the end it turned out a bit harder than we were aiming for, ohwell!

Submitted(+1)

This game is very beautiful and very creative. I love eating bugs to get through

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing ^^!

Submitted(+1)

The music was awesome. Loved pretty much everything about this. Hard to know where the frogs hitbox was but eh.

Developer

Thank you so much!! The hitbox is in the frog’s hat, it lights up when you press shift. Perhaps we could’ve made it a bit clearer ^^’

Roberto has learnt magic!

It was awesome. This music! This art! And the game is super fun to play too, the controls and feedbacks feel super good and the game is full of sequences I enjoyed apprehending, which includes emptying my stomach at the right moment so that I'm not out of magic at the wrong one.

Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! We’re flattered that you enjoyed our work this much, it really means a lot to us!

From what we’ve seen, I think you may be one of the few people to actually leverage the stomach mechanics to their advantage hahahah, good job!

I extually love love love the art, it's so cute :) It is really hard tough :p

Developer

Thanks a lot! Yeah, the difficulty ended up a bit harder than we were aiming for ^^’

Nice entry, didn't make it far though unfortunately. Does the slow key works?

Developer

Thanks for playing! The slow key should work yeah, are you having issues with it? (I assume you’re playing the web version)

Submitted

yes, web version. It didn't work for me

Developer

Hmm that’s weird, I’m sorry it’s broken for you, I’m not sure how to reproduce the issue ^^’

Submitted

yeah. who knows... played on mac firefox. Seems like space bar is just not responding correctly

Developer

AH! That would be because the key is actually Shift, not Spacebar hahah! Perhaps the text was a bit small to read

Submitted

oh no haha, looked like a space bar haha
