Very good visually and cool concept for the movement, it controls quite well!

Submitted(+1)

This was really cool, was so focused on getting the hang of the movement that I didn’t even think to try harpooning enemies until I was almost to the boss. Managed to beat the boss by hanging toward the right and just safely harpooning him in the face as he passed by lol.

Really neat idea, and kind of awesome what you’re able to accomplish with just two colors, love it

Developer

Thank you 😊

And thanks for playing!

I beat the boss! Would have liked some kind of ability to move faster, it felt kind of slow. Good work!

Submitted(+1)

Omg, what a piece of art. The style is just amazing and it makes you truly experience and feel the underwater world. I just wish there was some music and audio, they would support the realism of the game. I'm really impressed with this entry, amazing job!

One small thing is that the boss fight felt a little too easy. It was just moving randomly without ever getting close to me.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And thank for playing!

The boss fight was rushed and I intentionally made it easy so people can play to the end. I found that for the game jam not everyone has patience to struggle through. Anyway, thanks for the feedback! :)

Very cool game, I love the 1-bit style, it is really well done. You did a great job on the feel of the bathysphere as it moves, it really does feel like its underwater. This is all so atmospheric, it's begging for some moody music to go along with it. Great job with this!

Developer

Thank you! =)

This was really neat! I managed to soft-lock myself a number of times at first, but I think what I figured out was that I really needed to focus on holding the left mouse for the full trajectory of my movements. Switching to kind of alternating between hold the LMB and then tapping the RMB worked better. Without that it seemed like I would build up momentum and it could get out of hand very quickly until I was out of bounds. I played in Chrome on Linux in case that’s a factor.

Regardless, the visual style here was great, and the combined movement/attack systems was really clever. It’s a bummer you didn’t have any audio because everything else was pretty solid.

Nice job!

Developer

Curious! So, by our of bounds and soft-lock you mean you managed get through the walls somehow?

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, exactly. Sometimes it would kind of bouncy around very quickly and then at least once for sure I ended up inside the wall (kind of tucked in a convex corner, about a full width of the ship in from the top and side). Once I was there it wouldn’t move at all. Something similar happened a second time when I was messing around to see if I could get it to happen again but I think the screen just went black (maybe I just went that far out of bounds?).

I just tried out again and it honestly seems a lot more stable this time around. I think I’ve restarted Chrome since then, so maybe that’s related. My best guess is that it has to do with the backward momentum when you shoot the harpoon. It seems a lot more subtle now. Maybe there’s some kind of initialization race condition that I got super unlucky with?

Developer

My guess is that it is something to do with the physics and CharacterBody2D specifically. Maybe I update the velocity incorrectly or something.

Anyway. Thanks for finding an interesting bug. And thanks for playing!

This was cool, I like the focus on minimal inputs, the momentum the bathysphere has makes it pretty satisfying to swing myself around corners, especially while also 360 no-scoping crabs.

The graphics are super nice too, I can appreciate a clean minimal art style that still gets across details.  Love the touch of seeing the boss in the background as we got deeper too, like it's actually hunting us down.

Developer

Thanks!

I'm particularly proud about that "boss in the background" thing. This idea came to me the last moment, but was super easy to implement (just an animation + trigger event). The goal was to foreshadow that the boss fight is coming and to keep the player going.

What a nice entry! I appreciate alternative control systems like this one. I had a good time exploring the depths and you nailed the 1-bit look, very cool art. Too bad for the audio, it would have been a great addition, but it's a pain we all know.

Well done!

Developer

Thank you! 😊

Very nice game and art, but a little music and explanation of the powerups would have been nice. Also, I'm curious as to how you created the effect of the texture of the anchor rope expanding as the rope grows

Thanks for the feedback!

I used a Line2D node with the following parameters:

This was the most fun I think I had with any game so far. Excellently executed. Awesome!

Developer

❤️ Thank you! That's so nice to hear!

The game and graphics are cool! I miss some music, I know for the time we had that's perhaps too much for some of us. I barely noticed the lifebar on the lef bottom .... but it is interesting!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback!

I agree, the UI was an afterthought. I have much better ideas now how to make it more obvious and useful, but well...

Anyway, I'm happy you liked the game 😀

I like this game and think it could make a pretty good mobile app. It could do with some audio, but other than that, the only thing I'd change is make the controls tap/hold to go, release to stop.

Developer

> tap/hold to go, release to stop

That might work! Great suggestion, will experiment in that. Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool concept! Though I didn't understand what all the items do the game it's enjoyable and with a good retro vibe

I would loved more input methods and perhaps at least a background music, I'll come back in the future if you are going to update the game

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the game:)

The items were an afterthought actually. One is just for repearing the damage, and the other one is to boost the speed (to make the boss battle easier).

But now that I'm thinking about it, I should've cut that completely, and spend this time adding sounds instead.

As many people mentioned, the movement in the beginning is rather slow, so I could just boost the speed from the start. And the repearing stuff could just be an automatic one of before the boss battle.

:)

oh, so those effects were permanent! Sincerely I didn't find anything wrong from being slow, we're underwater after all. Also I guess thats an addition to the experience, if synced with nice sounds and music.

Thanks for the entry, I had fun with it

Beautiful game and loved the level. My only complain is I wish there was more!

Developer(+1)

I'm happy to hear that 😊

Submitted(+1)

That's a really polish core mechanic, whenever I got damaged I felt it was my own fault and that's a good thing. Shame with the sounds, otherwise solid entry :)

Developer

Thank you!

Amazing game. Very intuitive and approachable. The control is simple yet elegant and I find the enemies does what it needed to do. The art is cute too. As per the other comments, I wish there was audio for the game as it would make it feels so much better. I had fun, nice game!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you!

All these positive feedback makes me thinking that maybe I need to implement a longer and more polished version of this game eventually.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the unique movement mechanic and graphics!  I wish there was audio!

Submitted(+1)

Cool art (especially loved the boss angler fish)! Pretty good game, and the idea for the anchor movement was really good! I didn't know how to damage the boss until I looked at the game page, and then I felt stupid lol. Awesome game, had lots of fun playing it!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

> ...felt stupid

You shouldn't have. It was my job as a game designer to make it more obvious. The whole boss fight was rushed, to be honest, and implemented at the very end of the jam, so I cut lots of corners.

Submitted(+1)

I wish I moved a bit faster, but I loved the art style and the game idea, very unique. I also accidentally clicked past the ending screen. I also think audio would help a lot!

Developer

Hi! Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I see now that the faster movement would be more fun.

Submitted(+1)

Beautiful art, great idea. I love the anglerfish! Had a lot of fun playing!

Developer

Thank you ❤️
