The vibes here are off the chart, however I wasn't able to do more than just click around. I read the instructions on the itch page but the Receiver never received a call. The visuals and mood here are amazing, I love how the UI and computer terminal interface were designed. And it was cool reading all the flora and fauna entries. You've got the bones of something pretty cool here, well done!
Agree with the other comments about the player on-boarding experience, but the overall vibes and ambiance are top notch.
I was rearing up to tackle this tricky puzzle, but some buttons stopped working right at the finish line haha
Very cool ambience and ideas!
Very nice graphics and audio, but did not understand much. :/
The visuals are very good! And the whole atmosphere reminded me Red Matter VR game.
However, I also stuck not knowing what exactly I need to do. I clicked around, skimmed through some dialogs, but other than that couldn't get anywhere.
One note from the accessibility part: the UI and text doesn't scale, so it looks tiny on a 4K screen.
I've read the description and the game really needed a tutorial. I would even go as far as to add more information to the description since the game itself can't be changed.
One thing that I missed in my first reading of the description was that the team moves 3 tiles. That really messed me up.
As extra feedback, I would've added some way of looking past their current position, like "look north, look southeast, etc" options. Without this, the start of the game is really tough as it's hard to figure out their initial position since often there are multiple tiles that fit their description. Since they don't follow your directions exactly, it's also hard to figure this out even after some turns.
Overall, I loved the idea. It's creative and 100% fits the theme. Visuals are beautiful and audio adds to them to make the experience very immersive.
Congratulations.
Couldn't figure out the game until I read the comments and realized that you needed to click space to continue the dialogue. Graphics were amazing, great job!
I love a good logic game. But "No one responds my call" on the Receiver. How do I get the game to start?
Sorry for the confusion. We sadly ran out of time for testing and now see what we overlooked.
When using the receiver, when the text appears after pressing the red button, use space bar to continue to the next line of dialogue.
This usually leads to a few buttons you can click to ask the lost team what they see. For example, they might be in a forest and see a particular plant.
Once you get the name of the plant/animal you can use the main (central) terminal to search for the name and find it's picture.
Then going to the map terminal (right) switch between map layers (terrain/plants/animals) and try to find the hex that contains the combination said by the team.
Once found, you can then use the gear stick on the left to select a direction (North/South-West/ East etc.) to guide them towards the flag.
Once a direction is selected with the gear stick, return to the receiver to convey your directions.
The team will then move 3 hexs in the direction selected, with a small chance of slight deviation.
Really sorry about the confusion. It's now clear how essential a tutorial would have been.
I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be doing, very atmospheric though! Something to do with the hexes on the right? No idea what the gear stick was for.
Sorry about this, it is indeed a big issue right now. I will update the game description asap to try to mitigate the problem.
The game uses 3 terminals with specific functions :
The idea was to make a guessing game where you must guess the team position and guide it to the destination based on the interaction with the Recue Team. Which required tou to navigate back and forth between the terminals.
It took me a bit to get used to the controls and what I was supposed to do, once I got the idea it was a bit easier. I think it would be nice to at least indicate where the expedition starts, to get some initial bearings. I liked it, good job!
Hey there, thanks for your feedback
The initial idea was to make a something similar to guessing tabletop games like "Guess Who ?" where you must use deduction to find where the team is and guide it to where it should go. So this was done by design.
Sorry about the lack of explanation of game mechanics, we kinda rushed to be able to ship the game for the jam so it is missing a lot of quality of life features.
