Game Description
Step into the haunting world of Re:Flections: Schutten, a pixel art top-down adventure where you play as Lukas, a pure hearted golden hero. Journey through eerie forests and face terrifying elemental bosses that challenge your courage and resolve. Each level pits you against powerful monsters — manifestations of Lukas’s deepest fears and the dark forces threatening his town. Uncover the twisted tale of heroism, envy, and inner demons as you battle through intense boss fights to restore peace. Will Lukas conquer the monster within, or will someone have to rise and end his torment? Fight. Survive. Reflect.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The game fits the theme "Expedition" as Lukas embarks on a journey through eerie lands to confront powerful enemies and uncover the truth behind his town's curse. It’s both an external adventure and an inner expedition to face his deepest fears.

It seems like it was just me, but I wasn't able to get past the opening menu at all.

I really loved the opening sequence art- very cool!

Developer

Thank you very much. The artist and the musician put a lot of effort into making them, and we're glad you liked it.

This is such a cool boss fight game, which I am way too bad at to complete xD I really enjoyed it though, and it looks great.

  • (+) The intro is very cool, and I like the effects and story.
  • (+) Boss design and abilities are neat, there was some nice variation between them.
  • (-) I felt like the difficulty was a bit too high, especially as a first fight coming into the game. The intro is also a bit long.

Good job!

Developer

I'm glad you liked the game. We wanted to add a tutorial level to split the intro into two parts, but there wasn't enough time to develop it, and yes, the difficulty did get a bit out of hand.

The foundations of the game were pretty solid. I wish the character moved a bit faster as some attacks kinda felt like "checkmates" that I couldn't dodge no matter what I did. I feel like there was a giant aesthetic shift from the cutscene to the actual game as well

Developer

Sorry, the difficulty got a bit out of hand. I'm glad you liked it.

I wasn’t able to get this running on Linux (I tried running it through wine but it crashed before it could load at all).

I’ll try to come back to this when I’m on a computer with Windows, but I at least wanted to let you know I had trouble, especially since entries are supposed to have exports for the 3 major OSes and/or a web version.

Developer

Understand, sorry we didn't have time to export to other systems or make the web version. I hope you enjoy the game when you get the chance.

Finally got around to this! The opening was neat, but probably too long for something like this. It kind of just made it feel like we were missing out on a bunch of cool parts of the character’s story.

The battle was also a bit too challenging for me. I was grateful that once I got through a phase I didn’t have to start over entirely, but I still gave up in the end.

Regardless, clearly a lot of thought and effort went into this, so nice job!

Developer

Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked the game. It was supposed to have a total of 3 bosses, but in the end, we only managed to develop one (which are the 3 Cerberuses). We decided to prioritize quality over quantity, and yes, the difficulty did get out of hand.

Wow, that was a long intro! I enjoyed the dark fairytale look of the opening scene. The combat section feels brighter in mood. I managed to defeat the electric boss. I especially liked the laser attacks. The grid thunderstorm is a bit difficult to notice, on some tiles more than others. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to help Lukas overcome the blue one. The projectiles are HUGE! I'll try again later on.

Congrats on your entry, it looks like a lot of work. Keep it up, well done!

Developer

Thank you so much

I hope you manage to complete the journey!
