I've rarely seen rhythm games be published in jams, but I really like the concept of this one! I felt the overflow of work truly coursing through my veins with every hit. Impeccable.
I do have a few things that I noticed when playing though. As someone previously mentioned the timing required to keep up with the combo is very precise and I think the game would benefit from a tiny bit of leeway if possible. You can also just spam the hit button as there's no cooldown but if this is intentional then ignore this point lol. Also, for some reason when you retry the game it doesn't stop the game over music or reset the level state, so you sometimes start with an already accelerated song state + game over music in the bg.
(A bit of a side note, but when I discovered you could spam the hit button to get a hit, I immediately wanted to see how far I could take this. So I made a quick macro that spams the "s" key over and over really quickly and managed to get the perfect score, you could say!)
Alright enough of that, I still enjoyed the game a lot! The images you used were hilariously amazing and the game over screen made me literally laugh out loud! The music is also really well chosen and I jammed to the beat the entire game lol. I really liked how the music increased tempo with each cycle as well, an endless mode rhythm game isn't something I've come across before I believe so I found this very intriguing and if you decide to expand this game or plan on making a game like this in the future I'd love to play! Amazing work (overflow) here, great job!
That is all, have a wonderful day! (ALSO, I'm sorry for the super long comment I talk way too much 😭)
The images are from Pixabay, i milagrously find this images and i couldnt pass the oportunity. Those images remembe me about some videos that use stock images for creating animations so i try to make something similar. Finding the right music was hard, i have 0 music knowledge so i was searching for something simple that is also why is a continous input (and also because i was running out of time, maybe a bit... Overflow you could say? :) ).
I am wating a bit before starting to work into a more polish version, all your feedback is greatly welcome. I also think that rhythm games are rarely publish in jams and also in general. Thank you for you feedback i really apreciated!
Good game! I didn’t quite understand how to play at the beginning, even after a while. Adding a short tutorial would have helped a lot. But overall, well done I liked the concept. Keep it up! 👏
I love the idea of doing a rhythm game, its very hard to keep in time of the combo. You might want to extend the time you have to click s. Other than that good job!
Yeah, i actually try that but then you could keep pressing the hit button and no matter what you just get the hit. I think that in the code i have a problem that reduces the time by half but i didnt have time to finish it
is the games framerate locked to 60fps?
yes via V-sync. I consider turn it off but in testing i find the rhythm very hard to hit, even inconsistent like the game take it like good but not completly so you miss the beat.
that may be the issue then, because im running at 144hz. So that would mean i only have 1 frame in those 144 to hit the s key.
oh no. Maybe i will try to force it to run at 60 fps via other method. But i dont know if the 144hz are the cause. I will investigate
I don’t fully understand what I’m supposed to do—sometimes I get points and things go well, but when I do the same thing again, I suddenly lose points. A short gameplay description would’ve been helpful.
The game over screen is really funny, I didn’t see that one coming.
The intro music might be a bit too loud, but that’s something that’s often tricky to fix quickly.
It does feel a little incomplete, but if you were to finish it, I think it could turn into a really fun game!
Yeah, to my disgrace i need it to upload really fast 5 hours before the jam ended. So i didnt have many time to write coherent instructions on how to play. I am gonna change it now that i have time. The objective is basically get as far as you can, you lose if your lives reaches 0 or doesnt get a minimum combo of 30 or 20 before the section ends. You are suppouse to press the hit button with the rhythm of the music.
