The best take on the limitation I've seen so far! Some balance issues asidebut that's part of the package haha

Fun concept, really works well to highlight how well-balanced all the pieces are in chess by letting you (and your opponent) have such absurdly powerful (or weak) pieces! I'm looking forward to trying this with a friend to see just how crazy it can get :)

Desk, Chess and Rock-n-Roll(with some balance problems, and sometimes it's confusing but anyway)
Nice submission!

This is a really cool idea, but I found the pieces changing their movement patterns confusing. If the pieces changed their sprites to reflect the change in movement, it would make things a lot easier to track.

I am quite bad at chess, so even the medium AI was wrecking me! Got a couple rounds in, I think my biggest issue was that the pieces were actually slightly hard to distinguish where I had to keep checking the reference on the right then have to check what it was capable of a lot. Liked the animations though! Fun for a bit, others would probably enjoy it more than I :) Good job!

Interesting twist to the classic game. I would love a few more visual feedback but overall very nice!

Wow this was really cool! 2 player mode is also wild for a jam game. I'm nowhere near as good at chess as I need to be to win though hahaha. Keep it up!

Nice idea!

i like it, the concept's interesting!

Really well put together overall!

I really like the concept, it's an interesting twist on a classic game, but it definitely shows why the king's moves are so limited in regular chess lol. Trying to chase down a king with the movement of a queen is next to impossible, and the only checkmate I was able to get was when the piece movement lined up in a way to give me a checkmate on the very first move. That being said, I still had a lot of fun playing this. Some calculation tools would be nice, like being able to draw arrows on the board, which I absolutely needed seeing how difficult it is to visualize the moves that can be made. Overall, it's very well made and kept me entertained for a while. Great job!

I don’t play much chess, so I didn’t really notice how broken a king with queen moves was until a few people pointed it out XD, Thanks for the feedback!

Really good job. Everything works great and looks excellent. The AI is also really good.

Loved this concept! It uses the limitation in a way that was really fun. It was hard for my brain to unlearn what pieces did and it made for a really unique chess experience. The sprite work & animations were very nicely done as well. Great game :D

What a wild entry. I like the randomness makes the normally known chess game becomes harder

Hey. I liked it

Really well polished game.

Very nicely executed idea! I play a lot of chess and this really confused me, in a good way. You applied the limitation really well. Great work!

Developer

Hahaha thanks!

Really well executed! The game and the art also all feel really polished so this was a lot of fun to play! The addition of difficulties and a 2 player mode is also really nice. Well done and good luck!

A really cool concept. I've never seen this kind of chess interpretation before, but there's one issue. I think the king should keep his standard movement pattern – in one of my games, the king moved like a queen, and I just couldn't deliver checkmate. Maybe revert to the standard movement if only the king remains? It's awesome that you added not just PvP but also a bot mode. Did you use a chess engine for this, or did you code everything by own?

Thanks for the feedback! Honestly, I haven’t even managed to beat the game myself XD

The AI is custom-built, but I followed a few online tutorials on minimax, alpha-beta pruning, and evaluation tables, then tweaked it to work in Unity :)

ah we also made chess, nice to see another take on it
