The character designs are really neat! It's really tough to see if you're aligned enough with enemies for a melee attack -- extra perspective cues like shadows directly below player characters and enemies would have made it easier to read.
Thank you for the feedback, the shadow is definitely not a bad idea!
I'm glad you like the character designs, I spent a lot of time on them so it's nice to hear that it payed off :)
Thanks for playing our game!!
I love the character designs and concept! My one gripe is that the perspective made it really difficult for me to tell where I was aiming, even with the crosshair. But I stuck it through and played as all four boobbermen. Nice work!
Thank you for playing!
It's true that the perspective messes with the aiming a little, thanks for that feedback!
I'm glad you liked the character designs, I worked on them fulltime for a week so it's nice to hear that that paid off!
Quite an enjoyable little game, i did find it a bit hard to tell where I was aiming though.
Thanks for the kind words. Yep, the crosshair in front of the player was supposed to help with that, but it was a very late addition, so we couldn't really achieve with it what we wanted :()
Wow! Really cool game! Great concept! I had lots of fun with this one
Thanks for playing our game, I'm glad you enjoyed our game!!!!!
Thanks a lot for the banger illustration! The first Bobber Men fanart!
It's so nice that you enjoyed it so much. I adore the fact that you made an illustration for real!! Insanely cool!!
I love the character designs, and for a 3D game, the presentation is pretty polished. As an endless game, though, I wish the feedback on the mechanics felt a little better. Hitting the enemies could have been a little punchier and things that require multiple hits didn't really make me feel like I was doing any damage to them, so catching the fish was a bit confusing. I also like how each character has a different attack, but overall it didn't feel like the rules of the game were constantly changing, even with the random level generation. Still, good work, and I love the music too!
Hey thanks for the big review! :)
I agree player feedback is quite lacking right now, I really would have liked to make hitting fish and especially the big fish more Impactful. I think it definitely would have helped the overall experience. Glad to hear your feedback!
Nice and polished 3d game jam game, I love it! Sometimes it was frustrating when trying to attack enemies because the attack hitbox would vary for each bobber man (like especially the green one with it being on the sides, it was something I had to get used to), but I wouldn't say get rid of it, I just think there could have been more of a visual indicator there. Also the game is very challenging, but I like it! Great job overall :)
Thanks for playing! Initially we wanted the attack crosshair to also indicate range and attack pattern, rather than just the direction, but sadly we didn't have the time for it in the end. Thanks for the feedback!
The perspective and sense of depth is kinda hard to grok (for me personally), but still a very cool game :D
Yeahhh, we've got to realise it now after seeing people playing it. Thanks for playing it and appreciating our game!!
Really interesting concept! I loved that the different Bobbermen had different attack patterns that you had to adapt to as well as the added enemies like the rock spitting octopi. The menu was also really cool. I think a little more instruction on what the different recurring enemies like the green pufferfish are and what to do to avoid/defeat them would be helpful. Other than that cool game, and good luck!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the gameplay. I agree the instruction screen could have included a bit more haha, it was a really last second addition.
First of all, thanks for playing our game and for your praise! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Definitely some onboarding or explanatory text in the main menu about hazards would have helped! Good that you liked the main menu and the different bobbers!!
Wow. Menu was really unique.
It was difficult to understand my position and what i am hitting at first. (ps: still don't understand what is that aim thing for if you attack just when bobber man is in front of the fish)
My favourite was pink one for sure, she felt most powerful of all imo, tho her track is bit more difficult at least for me.
Inverted one was a fun surprise also.
Also it was a bit difficult to read when puffer fish would hit me and color of octopuses' projectile was barely readable.
Also i am curious why did you decide to go with this kinda structure instead of doing separate level for each one maybe with checkpoints?
Hey thanks for the detailed feedback! We went for this kind of randomly generated approach because we wanted the game to be an arcade-like experience where you try to get as high a score (Fish caught) as you can. For this aspect I think we both succeeded and could have done better with that in the end. 😅
Thanks for your appreciation!
Yeah, we agree indeed that aiming was kinda difficult. Adding to my teammate, we added the crosshair believing it would help with targeting, but is true that can get confusing. Also, as my teammate implied, the goal was to make it procedural and infinite, so this suited our vision.
Glad you liked the twist on the inverted and the pikn character, we enjoyed making them a lot!
I really like the characters you created, I can already see the franchise ;) I got heavy StarFox vibes while playing and think we should all make and play more rail shooters - nice work!
Thaks! Being an on-rails shooter, and having different characters brought us a lot of joy, the scope allowed us to invest in making them different enough and wanting to model them with some personality.
Pleasantly surprised by this one! already starting from the main menu with the punch animations. The level art feels a little unfinished, but the creature designs look good! Gameplay is smooth and fun :)
Glad you liked the game! We had Ruben doing basically all the art and I did some animations, so I'm definitely glad with how many assets we were able to pack into the game. That said, some more detail on the level generations was also on my wishlist hahaha
Cool game, I liked it. The impact of blows is cool, animations are good. It seems to me that it is easier to play for a pink character than for a red one. It is strange, it turns out that the difficulty of the game has decreased for me over time. And intuitively it seemed that the octopus projectiles can be reflected back at them with a blow, but it turned out that it is impossible :С
Thanks for the detailed feedback! Reflecting the octopus shots is actually a pretty interesting suggestion that we could have explored, thanks!
Punching the local wildlife didnt feel that cool since goat simulator :D
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you had a good time :)
the game is good, but it's kinda hard to aim. the crosshair didn't help much.
but i gotta say the idea and concept is good
Thank you for playing!
In hindsight we could have changed the FOV to make the aiming easier visually, and it's true that the crosshair doesnt help much at the moment, thanks for the feedback!
Lots to love with this one. The music is catchy, the variations are fun and unexpected, and the visuals are nice. The framing of the game and the pose of the bobber men reminds me a lot of REZ, despite the entirely different visual styles. Good stuff!
Thank you for all the kind words, I'm glad you had fun with our game!!
It really does look like REZ now that you mention it, I had never heard of it before but it looks pretty fun!
nice game, I thought it was an interesting interpretation of the limitation. One thing I felt like I struggled with was understanding where my hits where going, because sometimes it felt like things that should have landed didn't.
Glad you liked it, in hindsight we could have improved the readability of the projectiles a bit better, thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!
enjoyed beating on those fish
Thank you for playing, glad you enjoyed it!
The game looks great and the idea is pretty interesting! I also found the concept of a bobber that fights with fish quite amusing, hahaha.
The game was fun, but I struggled to understand what was the difference between the characters’ abilities. That’s maybe because I also wasn’t quite sure when were my hits landing. I felt like I was only able to punch the enemies that were really close, but there was also a crosshair that was pretty far, so I was a bit confused most of the time.
Hey thanks for checking out the game! It's indeed maybe a bit confusing to have the crosshair be further than the actual range of the attack, next time we should scale the distance to that, thanks for the feedback!
Soooo after further playing, I found that the other bobbers are actually quite different from the first one. Originally, I only got the red one and the blue one, and I think the difference is mostly speed, with the blue one being faster. Maybe having the first bobber vary would make sense, as I struggled a lot at first and couldn’t get to play the other ones.
This was really cool! Loved the gameplay and the design of the bobbermen is really fun. I did feel like I got unlucky a few times with the geometry and fish combos making it quite hard to avoid damage, but those were relatively rare. Cool interpretation of the theme by shifting up the characters moveset, one of my favorites of the jam so far!
Thanks for enjoying the game! The random generation of obstacles can be quite tricky, so situations like that are sadly there, but we're definitely happy to have made something enjoyable.
