This is one of the strongest submissions I've played. The UI to configure adjacency rules is too small imo.

Great job - a really polished puzzle game with a slick UI.

I struggled a bit with setting rules, and didn’t find that UI particularly intuitive. Maybe some tooltips or something like that might have helped?

unique puzzle game mechanic and great level design. it feels quite rewarding to solve the increasingly complex levels. i appreciated the video tutorial, nice touch.

Very clever application of cellular automata! Took a little moment until I understood the UI, but once I got it, it was very intuitive! :)

This is a lot of fun, surprisingly difficult as the levels progress.

Nice one! I spent entirely too much time on this. On theme. I would like an easier way to configure the rules, I think the little side boxes are too small. I can see myself playing this a lot more still.
Great work.

Thank you! Yeah, the UI went through a couple iterations, but we still weren’t quite able to nail it. For what it’s worth, if you hold the mouse button down after clicking one of the little squares, you can just paint in the rest of them. Hopefully that makes it a little easier.

nice touch, you should call that out drag-to-select in the tool tips (assuming i didn't miss it)

on another note, i also appreciate the level advance option, not just for skipping one i can't solve, but also being able to go back to the browser and jump back to the level i am stuck on =)

regarding the UI, throwing this out there because i feel like this game would be nice on mobile:
maybe try expanding the currently selected instruction set with with 8-way arrows, like an arcade stick. the square can act as the toggle since you can't change the primary color, and once you click away, you could compact it down the way you already have it.

not sure if this would be an overall improvement... i usually iterate UX until it feels right, versus being able to visualize an immediate solution. it would solve the size of the hitboxes, though.

Developer

I like the “arcade stick” idea, I think it would also make the relationship between the key colour and the neighbours a lot clearer. Definitely something worth trying out, thanks for the feedback!

Really creative idea and mechanic. Music is great and doesnt get annoying, art is cute and the levels are increasingly challenging but beatable. They slowly introduce new mechanics which keeps progression interesting

The only issue I see is with actually learning the game, but the team put a lot of effort into offering tutorials (in-game or video)!
