Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
7 day Forest is based on dreams of leaving behind traces of our existence. Rather than competing, players tend to a shared forest where actions--digging soil, planting seeds, and watering others' plants--leave behind an act of care for wanderers they won't meet. We dream of transforming the language of games from taking to giving, from fighting to nurturing. Each player leaves behind a permanent change in our shared world that outlasts any person.

By every cycle's end, the forests become mementos of collective care that players, both old and new, can return to explore--walking through canopies that flourished in some and fading vegetation that struggled in others. Through this gentle, reflective simulation, players discover that the deepest connections aren't made through big gestures but through small acts of caring for something larger than ourselves. We believe that "a society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."

7 day Forest incorporates generosity with multiple forms: to ourselves through mindful, meditative gameplay that invites us to be present; to invisible collaborators through patiently nurturing their plants; and to future players who will inherit the forests we've grown together. There's a lot of meaning in knowing your small acts, along with others, will create something none of us could build alone. After all, in caring for our shared world, we learn to see ourselves in others and others in ourselves.

I really enjoy how you incorporate the theme, i just feel kinda strange playing because of the crashes, i don't know if it's my computer or it's because is a web game or just because the server turn too big that my pc don't have memory to run, but for the time a multiplayer game that everyone contributes to the same world is incredible for the deadline! I really want to see more of your works, still doing that guy!

I don't have anything else to say, the graphics are amazing, the music is awesome, and for the time that I play I don't found any error, just a incredible game, and a really good atmosphere, great job man

oh interesting! was your browser crashing or was the game just kicking you back out to the title screen? there was a Google outage earlier today that affected authentication into our database, so i wonder if it was related to that. our game also requires SharedArrayBuffer support on your browser.

I use the Opera GX, but I try again using the Google and works perfectly, I don't know why the Opera was doing this, sorry for don't test this before, but great job doing this game, now looks perfect :)

I wanted to commend this entry and add a comment to anyone playing; when I first started I just saw a wall of green. I was a little disappointed until I realized it was just a tree blocking the view but if you walk around, this game is very interesting, in terms of visual design and gameplay. When I started working on my game I was envisioning something similar to what you achieved here; I ran out of time, so kudos on your hard work to make it happen. The having to wait a day to recharge stamina is a great way to get players to come back and see the progress overnight.

we barely made it in time hahaha but very happy everything's working so far! yeah we're aware of those two big trees in the middle, definitely on our todo list after the jam to fix the camera vision. kudos to everyone thats come water them tho <3 thank you so much for playing!

The art, sound, character, designs, are all entrancing and beautiful. Let alone the net code and backend that goes into making everything work. I'm extremely impressed by this project on all levels. I can't wait to come back tomorrow, check my flowers and help keep everyone else's alive <3. This is a visual painting of generosity.

Developer(+1)

yesssss we're waiting for you back in the forest <3 thank you so much for playing!!

Wow, this is incredibly impressive! A really lovely take on the cozy game genre, and turning it into a collaborative community effort is a great interpretation of the theme. The mechanics are simple, but effective, and I love how you can see everyone who nurtured all the plants. My only small nitpick is that the trees can get in the way of the camera, making it hard to see sometimes, but other than that, this was very well executed! I will definitely be returning to nurture the forest. Great job to all of you!

Developer(+1)

thanks so much for playing! and yeah i hear you! we didn't expect this many people to nurture the forest and the two big trees in the middle are a bit... unfortunately placed right now XD we're definitely adding camera rotation or xray vision through trees after the voting period!

What a brilliant concept! I love this.

From the art, to the sound, to the whole concept of it all, y'all nailed it.

Very very smart idea! I love it! I read the comments below and I was expecting to be overwhelmed, but I found some empty spots and did my part! I also watered as many decaying plants as I could. It's very nice that you can see who has nurtured each plant. Very beautiful concept. I love the art, style, the colors, the ui and the music, sfx! Great game! One of the best! :)  I will probably come back on Sunday to see how an empty garden looks like! Very clever to reset it :)

hahahah thank you so much for playing!! the forest needs you <3

Stylistic color scheme, this game completely captured the "nature" of the theme (haha). Above all else, my favorite part of my first game jam experience has been the community. Being able to grow this world together with everyone else is such a beautiful thing. It seems though that there has been so much planting, that I had no more possible interactions left. Found myself to be a little overwhelmed upon loading in, wasn't sure if there was anything to do still. Beautiful vision, nicely done.

thank you so much for playing! and yeah i understand! we thought about doing a blank "tutorial forest" before launching everyone into the community one but wasn't able to due to time. the forest also became full a lot faster than we expected XD

the forest does expand outwards tho! usually at the edges you can find some patches that are decaying or empty. otherwise, you can always come back the next day and the plants will need watering again~

This turned out extremely well, what an incredible submission! Easily my favorite of the jam so far :)

Having tried it a bit before the end of the jam, I really appreciate how well the overall visuals, sfx, and UI design work turned out!

This was such a relaxing and cute game! I absolutely love the concept of growing a forest with other people. Amazing job, one of my favourite jam games at the moment!!<3

This is very cool concept! I like the way you explored the theme and it feels good to be generous here in a way that doesn't feel self-serving in any way. Well done. My only bit of feedback is that at first I didn't realize I was even piloting a character because my model was blocked by trees, but other than that this was great.

Developer(+1)

hahaha yeah the two big trees in the middle of the current forest is a bit unfortunately placed right now XD (kudos to everyone thats come water it though) camera rotation and/or xray vision through trees is definitely on our todo list post voting period!

I really liked the indirect connection with other players. The dream like vibe is also very soothing!

Hey everyone: When we were working on the game, we didn't expect the forest would receive so much love and care that you guys have been giving. As a result, when you explore now, you will see it full of life--so much that it might be overwhelming.

I hope you enjoy everyone's hard work, water a tree here, dig a tile there, and come back when the next forest begins, early morning Sunday PT (or Sunday evening if you're in Asia)--one that will no doubt need your help to grow.

The fruits of the players labor cannot be adequately represented—all garden spaces have already received the same love and passion that was put towards the artistry.
