Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
We went with the idea that generosity requires sacrifice, and the idea of leaving your mark on the world around you through your generous actions. We based the actions of the game on 3 of the 5 love languages: words of affirmation, physical touch, and acts of service. Through the colour scheme of the game, we also touch on the idea of culture of generosity, bringing out vibrance and life in the people and area around us.

In the end, the player becomes part of the forest itself. The creatures you helped now become caretakers in return, completing the cycle. As the camera pulls back to reveal the forest, you can't help but wonder if the other trees were once seedlings like you. It’s a story about how giving connects us, and how what we offer eventually comes back in unexpected, meaningful ways.

Lovely little game, gorgeous atmosphere with great sound design and visuals combined! Controls are really easy, conversations are short but sweet and being able to find the "impactful" response on first try does feel very gratifying. It teaches about different needs people can have and how you can give your time. I got 1 message about being tired, but had no other effects of it, did you plan on implementing some kind of limiter/meter like we did? We didn't get to implement our dialog indicators ourselves yet but it did feel reminiscent!

I think your game description here does share everything I'd want to touch upon as well, so I don't have anything to add other than it's been a heart-warming experience :)

Thank you for your review! The tired comment was kind of a sign to let you know you can finish the game by "goign to sleep". But you can keep going. We didn't go further thant that cause we ran out of time.

Simple and effective with a well executed artistic vision. If I were to add a touch of anything, it would be creature sounds to add a sense of playful interaction and make the forest dwellers stand out more (otherwise the jingles get repetitive). Animations for hugs and hand-holding would also be exceptional if time allowed it (something I would've added in my own game too).

The only minor immersion-breaking bug is when the creatures walk into me after I help them, then disappear.  Otherwise this experience is smooth with no faults.

This was such a lovely game to play! I really loved the art style, and how the game was forgiving when choosing the wrong choice to help the NPCs.

Thank you!

Very artistic little RPG experience you have. The characters are very fantastical; the minimalistic art style was really comfortable and the music blends in well with the style. The decisions were kinda weird, maybe the conversation needs to give more hints to which is the right choice. I'm not sure why it irritates me if I get the wrong choice even if it does not matter - maybe it's my competitive gamer mind lol. I do like the fact that making the wrong choice does not matter and it's okay to try again until you succeed - just like helping people in real life :D

I completed the game 1st helping a few people then again helping everyone hoping for a bigger tree. But overall, it is a nice little experience that did want to make me play till the end. Thanks for spreading comfort :D

I gotta say, I loved y'alls approach with nature and the idea that you get what you give. It's a beautiful and heartwarming story that I think everyone should play. I also love that color slowly returns to the landscape when you bring the forest creatures back to the middle of the forest (it's a similar thing we did for our game). Overall, I love what this represents. We always need to strive to give back, show kindness to others and keep that positive cycle going.

Mechanics-wise, everything worked as intended, with no bugs being present in the gameplay. Though short, I think it's one of those story experiences that are perfectly fine just being sweet and short. The art strikes a wonderful balance between beautiful and cuteness with the character design and the design of the forest. I think the only things that I feel was off was maybe the widget being far off from the creatures and should be placed closer, but I think that's just a personal thing. Loved the use of dialogue boxes and a choice system.

The Good
  • Map-Size
  • Astounding art/design
  • Short and sweet
  • Good message
The Eh (things i wish were in the game)
  •  I can't really think of much else I'd want in the game. It achieves its purpose quite well. Maybe more creatures? Or like when you press "Follow" or "Hold hand" it does a thing where you can lead them manually back to the middle of the forest.
The Bad
  • Virtually nothing

In conclusion, marvelous submission. I can't wait to see what you all do next.

Wow what a detailed comment!!! Thank you so much for putting so much effort into critiquing our game!! We wanted the creatures to follow the player around but we ran out of time :( Thank you again your inputs are so useful!! Appreciate it :)

A delightful, short experience. It may take some slight trial and error to intuit your approach in comforting the creatures, though is this not a universal struggle? Like all acts of good, generosity does indeed require sacrifice. And when your limit is reached, will you too have the strength to say goodbye?

Thank you!!

It's very nice and wholesome. It's actually pretty surprising how quick it ended. I really liked how it all is, apart from the fact that, there were paths to follow (although not expressly stated) it wasn't too hard to navigate or avoid getting lost in while just trying to find the next creature.
This is really nicely and pleasantly put together

Wow, this hit all the right notes. The visuals were super calming, the feedback felt great, and the whole thing was just really easy to get into without feeling stressful. It did such a good job showing how giving can be tiring, but also really meaningful—and how everyone’s needs matter in their own way. And that ending? So satisfying.

Definitely one of the most memorable entries I’ve seen. Seriously well done!

hii it's Chris!

Thank you for a wonderful, short, innocent experience. I feel you guys did phenomenal in delivering a focused, relevant, and polished game in 3 weeks for the jammy. I sense a strong cohesion in the dev team--how little steps sounded and lit up, how the music gently hums, how our little seedling slowly became something bigger, the flowers that decorated our forest. It makes me feel like you four know each other in real life.

Our team chose similar thematic tools: generous actions, earthy colors, the forest and its abundant life, yet we both delivered complementary experiences. Maybe that is the power of a great idea--there's so much it can give.

I feel entwined with you guys through this jam. Great effort!

Developer

What a wholesome game~ I love the use of color, how everything starts out in greyscale aside from a few pops of color and then as you help more people, the world becomes more colorful. This game truly captures the theme of generosity in such a perfect way, and the ending was genuinely so sweet, fantastic work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! We are glad to see you appreciate the style!!!

It felt as good as I thought it would feel! soothing visuals, satisfying visual feedback, forgiving gameplay choices...acknowledging how draining giving can be while portraying how worth it, it can be! giving importance to every person's individual need...full-circle ending; really, it's the complete package and it is so much in resonance with the theme!

a stand-out submission for sure! incredible work
