How your entry fits the theme
Grocery stores are finicky. A world of horror. The reason for this is because something as simple as 'picking up two apples' can branch off into what can be described as physical and mental efforts alike. We attempted to embody this by showing how shopping spirals - or rather, branches - off into interactions and minigames, despite the objective being very simple - to finish your shopping and get out of the store.
To a lesser degree, there is also our choice of characters. Myths are a branching, ever changing narrative. We created interpretations of them for our purposes - one of many branches - but there are still so many to cover. Not to mention the fact that each story or fable is yet another way of understanding the world. It's actually rather beautiful.
Diversifiers used

"Landmark": Include a large element in your level/environment/background. (gods are large?)

Looks interesting, but as mentioned below most of the dialogue would close immediately and the embed window is too tiny compared to the screenshots. I hope an update fixes these issues as I'd like see all the dialogue and art!
Hi gardenfodder, thank you for your feedback!
We have now fixed all the issues with the dialogue and the checkout game, meaning that the game is now properly playable. Feel free to give the game another shot:)
Congrats on making it to podium with Side Job Steve, it was super fun and creative!
I've managed to play the game from beginning to end, with one playthrough talking to everyone and still getting out. I liked the dialogue and the art is wonderful, making it a very charming experience. Thanks for taking the time to update the game post-jam, you all did a great job on it!
The art is beautiful. The dialogue-closing bug and and the resolution issue took away from the experience and I also got stuck in the check out screen.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, barman!

Branching Out was a thoroughly satisfying game, great work!
I gave it another try and didn't run into any bugs this time, glad you fixed them!
Cool art and dialogues and I liked the little jokes and references, like the Sysiphus part or the uno reverse xD
A bit buggy but I was mostly able to complete it! Dialogue for the majority of characters seemed to instantly close itself when I ran into their speech radius, but I did at least manage to trigger the matching minigames to satisfy the to-do list! Also, I think the embed resolution set on the itch page is a bit off, as the window has both vertical and horizontal scroll bars.
The art, especially when engaging with a character, was fantastic!
