I liked this game, specially the way the main character strides forward elegantly. haha
Would love to see it more polished tho, controls are a little clunky and story elements dont add to themselves. It was also kinda hard to find the exit. But I did in the end!
Good job on making a game and good luck on your journey!
Liked the art. Loved that the game was in Godot. The controls were good. I didn't realize from your page that it had controller support at first - which I prefer. I was glad to see it.
I think I got hit by a bug (or I'm just dense )1that prevented my progression. I got dash, (which didn't work on the controller, I had to switch back to keyboard) and after opening up the gate to the upper left, I couldn't figure out where to go next. At that point the high honk of the game loop (which I enjoyed in the beginning) was grating on my nerves, and I exited the game. would've liked some hit sound effects too.
Overall seemed like a pretty solid game, and sounds like from other posts there is an ending - I just couldn't get there.
This is pretty cool, the gameplay is a bit janky at times but it's fun nonetheless. And the artwork is really good, though keep in mind with pixel art not having everything use the same pixel scale can make even great pixel art look a little off.
The art style is a hard YES. Nice stuff.
I'm confused about the comment for hitting spikes to launch into the air. I hit them with the sword and nothing happens. I hit them with my face and I get a headache.
Those platform ghost things were AWESOME. I loved the idea of having a living platform and the visual design was cool.
Very solid design. I like that my progress got saved, because I took a break and came back after getting confused about how to progress. If that doesn't make the hollow knight inspiration shine then I don't know what would. The animations were consistently styled and the visual motifs were strong, including my favorite visual motif of the obligatory background skull.
However, I ran into a lot of bugs in the demo. I'm not sure how much of a focus they were during development, since this was supposed to just be a demo, but they really did hamper my experience, especially since I was traversing areas afflicted by them multiple times:
- Nix disappears sometimes after hitting spikes.
- Double jumps sometimes get eaten up by some mechanism. I thought it was from bumping my head on the ceiling during the first jump, but this wasn't true 100% of the time.
- I don't think I'm supposed to be able to stand on enemies. This really trips up the boss ai. Oh, the boss was really cool by the way. Not a ton of entries have a proper one. It was a fun fight.
- Player has a bunch of weird interactions with the ghost platforms. They don't snap to the ground far enough to account for platforms moving downward, and stutter if crushed between a platform and a solid surface.
But, I had fun anyways. Especially impressive is the variety of interactions achieved by just having a few enemies and obstacle types. Different screens demanded me to think about the base movement and abilities in different ways.
Cute game, really charming art! Sadly I got stuck, I found the little grotto where they asked about my friend but couldn’t figure out what to do next. There was nearby area with “Take Tassle” but I never was able to actually get it. I tried reloading the save but that didn’t work either. I wanted the music loop to be a bit longer, fortunately it’s nice but some variation would have been nice.
Congratulations on finishing, liked the game, but i did find a bug that gave me negative hp and made me immortal which was fun, but it got reset at a save point. other then that didnt find any real bugs. God job on finishing the game :D
That was charming.
I really like the artstyle, and love how Vernan looks, specially how regal they keep their posture all the time, idk just thought it was cute x) (I also like how they start panting at 1 hp, that's a little detail I always love to see)
Gameplay itself was very simple tho, not a lot to comment on here. I kinda wish there was a little more weight on combat, it feels very janky as it is since other soft knockbacks there's not much feedback for either you or the enemies, nor much feedback when you pogo on spikes other than just a height increase, but that's more due to a lack of polish that might not have been possible on the time you had so it's okay. I missed the ability to attack upwards while in air tho, for some reason you can only do that on the ground and that made fighting the boss and the flying enemies very incovenient.
Also minor nitpicks moment:
Using WS for the elevator exclusively makes no sense imo, it should have just been up/down + interact button like anyone would assume on any game they'd play.
Also, I found the pixie hideout only after already having rescued Nyx, so Vernan asking about her whereabouts while she was right besides them was a little funny lol, and retriggering the dialogue just gave the same thing all the time. Usually I excuse that for jam games since dialogue really is only there for flavor and is no way super important for the actual game, but this time that specific dialogue is not a generic flavor text, it mentions a condition that can change, and so seeing that it doesn't change at all after the mentioned thing happened does break immersion a bit.
Either way, fun game, very pretty x3
Enjoyed playing through the game. Really liked the art style.
This was awesome!! I really loved the design of the main character and the gameplay was really great
